Leg Stretching Contest?
injury-654474 September 2020
I guess this could have been visually interesting if done slightly differently. Unfortunately if you watch it this merely seems to be an attempt by an aging Madonna to show that she can stretch her legs apart and expose her crotch area. At this point in history it comes across as dated and somewhat sad rather than provocative, scandalous or shocking. An old pop star trying to shock a desensitised audience perhaps.

Madonna pushing our buttons

Warning: Spoilers
The title "Madonna: Hollywood" lists the performer as well as title from this 2003 music video that will have its 15th anniversary next year. Boy how time flies by. It runs for pretty much exactly four minutes and was created by highly prolific music video director Jean-Baptiste Mondino who worked with several of the truly greats. It is Madonna's tribute to Hollywood and how it may suck you in, devour you and spit you out when it's done with you, so it is certainly not all positive in here, even if the title and chorus imply that the attraction is undeniable and hypnotizes everybody. Everybody wants to make it big in Hollywood. Many costumes for Madonna in here and she was in her mid-40s at that point. A great deal of Marilyn too as she is of course the epitome of the glittering Hollywood star that faded as quickly as it rose. Overall a good music video and song, but probably not great in either field. I quite liked the spoken text at the very end which made it slightly more memorable eventually. It's not one of Madonna's worst or best efforts. It probably helps appreciating this one if you have seen and heard it (even more so) over a decade ago already just like I did. I give it a thumbs-up. Worth checking out for sure.
