Good movie
loureviews4 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As someone who has depression, I think this movie portrays well what it means to go through the ups and downs of life with this illness. But, factors such as the relationship of the main actress with the hospital psychiatrists seemed very unrealistic to me.

In most cases, you don't stay in contact with the specialists outside the hospital, much less forming a kind of "friendship" (like what happens with Tori Hausermann).

The thing about Robert Perkins' death seemed very forced for the film, although if it is based on real events I can understand why they added it. I wouldn't watch it again, but I liked it.

Another scam on IMDb with single reviews from people involved in this movie.
deloudelouvain13 December 2020
Facts about Blue: Before this review there were nine other extremely positive reviews. Seven of them never reviewed any other movie than this one. Two of them only reviewed this movie but contributed a lot in supplying filmographies, plots and images which make you automatically think they are in the movie business. So I hope those facts are already enough information for you to see the scam and to skip this movie. For my review I would say that it's absolutely not a comedy (or maybe I don't get the unexistant humor), the acting is below mediocre and that from almost the whole cast, the plot is extremely boring and not worth watching. The movie starts with the usual crowd teaser that it is based on true events and so on. Well in that case I expect an interesting story, where something different than the ordinary will happen. None of those things happened, it's just boring from the beginning till the end. They could have filmed any of my neighbors week and call it a based-on-true-events movie, in other words absolutely not interesting and just random. And about the awards (20 wins & 6 nominations) this is just an insult to good movies winning real awards. Just look at what kind of awards it's winning, nobody ever heard of those. I guess the film crew of Blue knows a lot of people in the business, hence the score, but don't get fooled by that. Avoid at all costs.

A feel good movie for those who already feel good.

Warning: Spoilers
Felt like a Lifetime movie. Fake. The main character must be manic/depressant to turn on an emotional dime the way she did. I do not believe that true healing occurred. It did nothing for me watching from a depressed state except make me faceplam at it.

A fantastic story

Passionate and shocking, Blue really struck a chord with me. I really hope this film is spread far and wide, as it does have a great message about the stresses that can lead someone to suicide.

Fantastic!
martiyoman-246958 November 2019
This movie handles tough subjects with dignity, and makes it approachable and puts it within grasp for someone with limited firsthand exposure. It doesn't gloss over anything though, and handles the highs and lows with a straight lens and some humor.

Finding hope through darkness with light, laughter & some tears
dramacow23 October 2019
I was SO happily surprised by the beautiful mix of laughter & tears watching this movie. It is a wonderful film with brilliant acting, the leads have great chemistry. It can be a heavy subject but there's so much light & life within it. Loved it! It shows that when you feel you have nothing left, you can dig deep within yourself or find even the tiniest bit of hope from another to keep going.

A picture that demands our surrender to its' acting, writing, filmmaking and above all its' exploration of an issue that the media and society glaringly overlooks
jdkraus10 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Blue. A color? A mood? A person's name? The film does not address the title. It is about a Helen (Callie Shuttera), a young woman who has no luck. She loses her job, her ailing grandmother dies, and she faces insurmountable debt. Helen tries to take the easy route via suicide. At first, it seems fate has a cruel sense of humor, allowing her to survive with no family and a mountain high bill pile. As Helen continues her journey, she meets a small group of people who cheer her on toward success: a wealthy but pleasant business named Robert (Shaw Jones), a chirpy nurse (Laura Nicole Harrison), and a cold doctor (Judith Scott). The question we wonder through the film is whether Helen will persevere or relapse. A particularly poignant scene depicts a group therapy session where real live attempted suicide victims share their stories. These moments are gut-wrenching, but also cathartic and a little bit refreshing. They are real, captured with a cinema verite quality. The harsh reality is enough to move any sensible person.

While the themes of suicide and self-injury are prominent factors in "Blue," the film does not fall into the traps of predictable plot devices or clichés (although there is a point in the story that feels rushed). Nor does this movie come off as being overly pretentious. Rather the movie's central focus is on Helen and her relationships with meeting new people. There are several well-written scenes between Helen and Robert, which evoke both subtle brilliance and clever wittiness. Not to spoil too much, but my personal favorite is a moment where the two main characters visit a laser tag, have fun, and then share a joint afterwards. I mean, who hasn't done this?

As a character-driven film, "Blue" relies heavily on the cast's performances. There are no weaknesses here. Callie Shuttera brings a burning passion to the lead character, delivering a strong and heartfelt performance. Shaw Jones offers a gentler performance as the quirky Robert, which works very well for his character. The other performers are superb in their respective roles. Chelsea Lopez as "Crazy" Ruby is a real screen stealer.

For an independent movie, "Blue" looks like a million-dollar picture. The cinematography is beautiful and stunning. The sets are clean and polished. And the editing is crisp and seamless. The score is minimalistic, primarily solo piano with light percussion. However, the Zimmer factor is a bit heavy in one key scene. This is a movie that proves what a group of talented filmmakers can make with a shoe-string budget. Most great movies are about people trying to resolve an issue. "Blue" is one of those films. This is a picture that demands our surrender to its acting, writing, filmmaking and above all its' exploration of an issue that the media and society glaringly overlooks.

Blue is the color of soul
tllgm201023 October 2019
It is frequently being said that blue is the color of sorrow and depression, allow me to disagree. Blue is the color of our planet when being watched from space. Blue is the color of my mouse-pad, blue is one of the primary colors and the deepest of the all. This wonderful movie tells, and in a very unique way, shows you that feeling depressed and low inside can be compared to all the colors of the rainbow. But if you're referring to feelings blue comes out the first when talking about sentiments.. Complicated but true, catchy but to the point, no messing around , straight to the heart of the soul... Beautiful !!!

An absolute gem of a film
GirlRebuilt9 September 2020
I had very few expectations when I sat down to watch this film as I knew absolutely nothing about it. But I will say that as a person who suffers from depression I tend to gravitate towards films that deal with mental health and have therefore seen many. When dealing with issues of self harm, most films tend to either sensationalize or demonize. I was expecting one or the other but this film did neither. It normalized it within the context of a volitive individual suffering an acute depressive episode . The issue was of course taken seriously as it should be, but it was seen as just what it is, yet another symptom of mental illness for some people. It is not the self harm that needs to be treated, it is the reason behind it. And this film focussed on just that. The writing was fantastic, the acting superb, the editing and musical score ideal. i'm hoping this film gets a lot more exposure in the days to come, particularly now that mental health issues are at an all-time high. It was also an uplifting reminder of what friendship and love can do to lift the human spirit, no matter how blue.

Outstanding film
redbugoff1 August 2020
This is a Must watch movie. The story line was very well done. The writing acting and all around movie experience is well worth it. Something to make you laugh and make you cry. It leaves you wanting to know what happens to the characters after the movie ends. And awesome watch.
