Goodness shines like a light
drhemantsant25 November 2018
Goodness in a human being affects all .Good actions come back to help you when you need it most.Even a symbol of a good person permeates goodness in all.More you leave the attachment to a thing you love it comes back to you in another ways.Film flies high on character morals cinematography revealing simple life of Konkan Maharashtra India .Even theives forgot to steal and turn a good leaf.Feel good movie for all who believe Goodness wins .It is the light that can remove any negativity even if roof falls on one's heads as it does here on one!All non Marathi film lovers Must see with subtitles .

What a beautiful piece of cinema this is ? Brings out the quintessential beauty of Konkan and the simple way of living. Transformed me to my childhood days (like not many art forms are capable of doing). Truly coming to age of Marathi cinema

A lovable emotional journey
kcalpesh10 May 2018
Wow, such a simple and sweet movie with an easy narration which is high on emotional quotient. Director Prakash Kunte brings to us a story set in early post-independence era, from a small village in Konkan. This is a story about Keshav an astrologer who owns a unique cycle presented to him by his grandfather. His love for the cycle is unbreakable and he would do anything to take care of it. Because of his cycle and his love for it and, for being a very good human being, he's very popular in his village and the areas nearby. What happens when his cycle gets stolen by two thieves and how the thieves get treated because of their theft is what you'll get to see in this movie.

I'd seen work of Hrishikesh Joshi in Breathe and Poshter Boys recently. He's a wonderful actor and very pleasant to watch. If such is going to be his choice of movies then I'm sure I'd be going to watch his movies without giving a second thought. Amazing work. The other two main characters, the thieves, Gajya and Mangya are played by Bhalchandra Kadam and Priyadharshan Jadhav. These two also have done a wonderful job. Although, I thought Bhalchandra Kadam a.k.a Bhau Kadam was underutilized. He's one amazingly funny guy and can have you in splits by his dialogue delivery and acting.

Cinematography by Amalendu Chaudhary is wonderful. I tend to usually love the visuals when Marathi movies are set in the rurals. It really brings out the beauty of Maharashtrian villages in a superb manner.

One of the very few glitches I noticed was a concrete road in a scene on a bridge. Pretty sure there weren't concrete roads in that era. But these issues are so negligible compared to the overall emotional impact the movie will have on you. Brilliant work Team - CYCLE. Loved this movie and looking forward to more of such movies. Content-driven Marathi cinema has truly evolved a lot.

Power of simplicity
kaminnisreeram19 October 2020
In this age of smart phones, digital life, Tinder, social media and mind numbing news channels, a film like Cycle slows down our running, and makes us ponder - exactly when did we lose our sense of wonder, why're we running, what happened to our simple lives ? I thoroughly enjoyed this film, watched again with my child and recommended to my friends. A well deserved National award win for this film and kudos to makers and entire team. Special mention for Bhau Kadam who uses facial gestures instead of dialogues. More power to such films and its makers.

A TALE OF GOODWILL FOR THE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN GOODWILL
SAMTHEBESTEST10 May 2018
'This film is set in the time when people used to believe in Goodwill, it's quite unbelievable in today's era' you just read the Tagline which appears before the film's begining and then film makes you realise that tagline again and again till the end. Film starts on a positive note and remains positive till the end and still doesn't disappoint you. It doesn't lose the sweetness anywhere, lacks the much needed negative character and when you feel that ending will be sweet, it suddenly goes philosophical way yet manages to give you a satisfaction of watching something good. The story is set in Konkan's scenery where World Famous Cycle of Keshav (played by Hrishikesh Joshi) gets stolen by 2 thieves Mangya and Gajya (played by Priyadarshan Jadhav and Bhau Kadam) in kind of tricky situation and then how Goodwill of Keshav and his cycle changes their lives and teaches them something, you have to see film to know that. After Coffee ani barch Kahi, & Jara Hatke and Hampi, director Prakash Kunte has again choosen a clean, simple and easy story and has given a justice to it. Basically, theme and it's soul is so small and weak to explore still the crafting is above the expectations level. Additionally, philosophical climax thing has given a hint of Director's beautiful vision. Above all, Cinematography of Amlendu Chaudhari is Pure Class, camera work speaks so loud on screen that you can't stop praising it. Unnecessarily added one song which was never a part or need of script spoils the tempo of the film for a while but then Background music has enough vibes to recover that loss. Screenplay is ordinary yet engaged. Editing could have been better. Despite few technical minuses film doesn't look crap or Bad at all. 'Cycle' is not that big subject to make a film on it but still the efforts of entire team deserves appreciation as well deserves your one time watch for sure. Rating- 3/5*

Life is beautiful when it is simple!
vimalasunder28 June 2021
The opening lines "This film is for those who believe in good and for those who do not" says it all! I would say it is more for the disbelievers!!

Director, Prakash Kunte, has given us a film on goodness with huge dollops of humour and village psyche that is untouched by urbanness. The story is set in a idyllic Konkan village with its simple people, gently flowing rivers, a patch of a beach, dense forests.......all captured beautifully by cinematographer, Amalendu Chaudhary.

Keshav , (played by Hrushikesh Joshi) is an astrologer and what sets him slightly apart and above the rest of the village folk is his cycle, It is indeed a fine specimen that he has inherited from his grandfather, who in turn received it as a token of gratis from his British employer. This story is a favourite with his daughter, recounted many times over, and in the village and the neighbouring ones too! So much so, that it is a part of the persona that Keshav is, inseparable from one another. Keshav will not lend his cycle to anyone and when not in use it is not left parked outside the house but kept safely indoors! Such is the care lavished on this prized possession. As trouble would have it , the cycle is stolen the very day he hurriedly leaves to attend a village play with his family. The loss is not just of an object but of an identity itself.

The thieves, Mangya and Gajya, brilliantly played by Priyadharshan Jadhav and Bhalachandra Kadam, move around the neighbouring villages with the cycle trying to get away from the place with their spoils. They are met with people who identify the cycle with Keshav and his good nature. Their escape journey and the parallel journey of Keshav , in search of his cycle, nay alter ego, forms the core of the story. This becomes the journey of self realisation.

Watch it to revive you from the pandemic blues!!

Heartwarming masterpiece
suhridamroy19 September 2020
The movie tells a story about a bicycle and different characters associated with it.

The story is beautiful with ups and downs and perhaps a perfect happy ending! There isn't any character which seem insignificant, as all have added elements of richness.

The cinematography is amazing. Most probably shot in coastal Karnataka. The movie have an amazing old age charm. It's a delightful visual experience.

The acting is very professional. I mean how often do we see Indian movies with such spot on acting? That too from every actor in the movie! I don't know Marathi but could very well connect with the movie.

So finally, offbeat movies like this are hidden gems. Watch it! You won't regret!
