Was there ever a cheaper looking film than Blippi’s Big Dino Adventure? Children may be thrilled by the prospect, but they are foolish and need protecting. As do the parents
The summer holidays are not much fun for parents of young children, and they are currently flop-sweating with anxiety over how they’re going to manage to hold down all their professional obligations while simultaneously entertaining the neediest human beings in their lives. But if the last few years have taught us anything at all, it’s that things can always get worse. And so it brings me absolutely no joy whatsoever to inform you that a Blippi movie is coming out this summer.
You may know Blippi. If you have children aged 10 or under, there is a solid chance that you have endured long, joyless tracts of time watching Blippi on YouTube. For the uninitiated, Blippi is a...

Blippi, the blue-and-orange-clad character portrayed by Stevin John, is getting a new spinoff. Candle Media, which acquired Blippi owner Moonbug last year in a deal worth a reported 3 billion, has announced Meekah. The Netflix show will star the titular character, who first appeared on the Blippi YouTube channel last year.
Meekah is portrayed by Kaitlin Becker, who previously appeared on the Daytime Emmy-nominated programming block Sunny Side Up. Like Blippi, Meekah appeals to preschool-age children. Becker’s character helps those young viewers understand artistic and scientific concepts. In one of the most popular videos on the Meekah YouTube channel, the titular character meets a dinosaur during one of her adventures.
Since splitting off onto her own channel, Meekah has gained about 588,000 subscribers and pulled in more than 258 million lifetime views. Now, Moonbug and Candle Media will see if those numbers can translate onto a new platform. Blippi is already a hit on Netflix,...

Moonbug Entertainment is set to expand its children’s empire on Netflix, betting that the Blippi universe has room for growth.
When Candle Media, the Blackstone-backed content rollup led by Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs, acquired Moonbug Entertainment last year at a 3 billion valuation, much of the attention was on Cocomelon.
The animated preschool franchise is one of the most popular channel owners on YouTube, and its Netflix show is one of the most popular kids programs on the streaming platform. Now, it’s using one of its own brands, Blippi, as a jumping off point.

Legendary Entertainment has sold a $760 million equity stake to Apollo, the companies announced on Monday
The pact gives the investment giant a minority ownership position in the studio behind “Dune” and “Godzilla vs. Kong.” In July, Variety broke the news that Legendary was exploring a possible sale and merger and had abandoned an earlier plan to merge with a special purpose acquisition company (Spac).
Wanda, which bought Legendary in 2016 for $3.5 billion, will continue to have a stake in the company. However, much of the money that Apollo is investing will be used to pay off Wanda, which will move control of the company away from Chinese conglomerate. As part of the deal, Legendary’s management team will gain equity in the company and will have an opportunity to participate in an equity incentive plan.

The new media venture run by former Disney executives Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs finally has a name.
It has been christened Candle Media, the pair announced on Tuesday while confirming their deal to buy a minority stake in Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Inc. The Smiths’ company produced the Oscar-contender “King Richard,” the Netflix hit “Cobra Kai” and the Facebook Watch show “Red Table Talk.” Sources say that Candle spent $60 million for a stake that gives them just over 10% of the company. That values Westbrook at roughly $600 million.
In a statement, Mayer and Staggs praised Westbrook “…as a home for world-class creators that is built for the digital age – which fully aligns with our company’s vision for the future of media.”
Candle is backed by venture capital giant Blackstone. Staggs previously served as Disney’s chief operating officer, chief financial officer and chairman of its parks and resorts business.

The media venture run by Disney alums Kevin Mayer and Tom Stags and backed by private equity firm Blackstone has acquired Moonbug Entertainment, maker of popular kids shows like CoComelon.
The valuation of the deal, which had been rumored in recent weeks, was not specified in the official announcement, but people familiar with the transaction pegged it at $2.75 billion. With earn-out incentives, the final pricetag could reach $3 billion.
Moonbug’s founders CEO René Rechtman and COO John Robson as well as existing management team and shareholders will retain equity stakes in the still-unnamed Mayer/Staggs/Blackstone outfit.
Founded in 2018, Moonbug has offices in the UK and LA. It has quickly built a large global following of family viewers with shows like CoComelon, Blippi, Little Baby Bum and several others. Netflix streams CoComelon in the U.S., where it is frequently in the weekly top 10 rankings of shows in terms of total viewing time.
