I have ASD and I wish I watched this sooner
UniqueParticle14 April 2021
Just as enjoyable as House M. D. by the same creator David Shore. I appreciate Freddie Highmore so much I'm glad he's been nominated! It's impressive how well Shaun handles everything I know I couldn't even being quirky I have bad anxiety, IBS, and I'm not as intelligent as a lot. Anyway The Good Doctor is an incredible well written and captivating series that is easy to love! I love all the cast and brilliance put in the medical aspects. I would appreciate it if more like my review.

Season 4 is horrible. I loved the first season.
CouchYam21 February 2021
I know that medical/legal/tech TV shows/movies are strictly entertainment and require total suspense of disbelief but I liked the first season where Murphy is able to mentally synthesize a solution (using fairly good CGI) from a wide variety of disparate data.

But season after season, the show is less about Murphy and like so many shows has degenerated into a bad soap opera.

Season 4 is a total dismal failure. Suddenly, the show has taken a new turn. We're very liberal, politically and socially, but this season is a bridge too far.

I used to look forward to watching this show for light entertainment but now I'm getting annoyed so why should I continue watching? I'm predicting that this show will be cancelled after this season.

Season 4 is a failure!
marcoacosorio19 November 2021
Suddenly the Main character is no longer Shawn. There is no more the "Miracle solution" of him. Bad, really bad. I hope in the next season they do better. Also, stop giving way to much scene to characters that do not worth it, like Lim and Brown. It is boring, keeping giving them space. We're here because of Shawn

Absolutely Amazed with this show
babyk-4484611 November 2017
I, for one.... can not Believe the reviews I have read. It is totally unfathomable that people have such narrow minds. First off. It is a television show. Nothing more People! It is a refreshing insight to all that autistic children, adults face on a daily basis. It is thoughts of what is possible for ANYONE with any type of disability they may face to have a positive outlook for what they stand for and fight for at any given time in their life. Although, it is extreme... It is the possibility that something greater can happen in the life of someone with disabilities no matter how great or small. I find a learning experience in every episode I have watched and that is to learn more about autism from every aspect and have compassion enough to care ... as a human being. I would be very sad if this show doesn't continue and show it's full potential. I will be forever watching as long as it is aired!

It's an amazing show
oneabello24 November 2017
RANT Alright, I saw some reviews talking about how this show doesn't portray autism correctly and that this was made by "leftist-whores" pardon my French. First of all, autism is on a spectrum. Everybody who has autism experiences it differently and acts differently. Second of all, there's no need to bring politics into this. I don't see how this program is leftist at all. There are no politicians in it, no controversial methods dealing with abortion etc, nothing about the LGBT or race or feminism. Nothing in this show is about politics so I don't see how it's leftist. Anyway, thirdly and lastly, please learn grammar first before trashing something. There's a difference between "your" and "you're".

Someone also said that disabled people shouldn't be shown as "superheroes". That is an insult to all amazing disabled people such as Hellen Keller and Stephen Hawking. The people who trashed this show are probably neurotypicals with no sympathy for those with setbacks, whether mental or physical.

END OF RANT

Now, I should stop my ranting and actually talk about the show. Shaun Murphy is a doctor with autism and savant syndrome. People with savant syndrome may have low IQ scores but can be "savants" or talented at something such as art, calculations, memory, etc. Shaun has an excellent memory which aids him when operating on patients. People doubt him at first, but are then amazed when he saves someone's life. This show is probably on par, more on less, with any other medical/hospital/etc show in terms of drama. I'm just glad that there's accurate autism representation on TV and that people with autism are not idiots who can't fend for themselves and need to be pitied and babied over.

A show I can relate to
sloanjw-7468919 November 2017
I am an intelligent high school student who is very socially awkward and introverted. My life goal is to become a doctor and work at a hospital, and save lives. I can relate to Shaun as a character, but I also love the subplots and story lines that the flashbacks reveal, and this was the first show ever to genuinely make me cry. I love this show, and would love to see it grow and develop, along with the characters and the plots.

The Good Doctor

I am loving this show, more than once it has made me cry! When one episode finishes I am already checking what the following week is going to be about. It is brilliant and Freddie as Dr Shaun Murphy is amazing. Initially I thought I would only care about Dr Shaun, but weirdly they have all kind of grown on me and I am interested in the back stories too.

Great Show
llaeiom20 November 2017
Just wanted to say, that me and my family look forward to Monday nights to watch The Good Doctor. My husband and I grew up in the Doogie Howser MD years and think this series is even better than that. Great scenarios, great story lines, great acting. Absolutely love the show and actors. Looking forward to more seasons of The Good Doctor. Thank you!

Obnoxious Shaun Murphy
htwhyppe-530 May 2023
I used to enjoy this program, but they somehow lost control of their main character. He's become an obnoxious, in-everyone's-face jerk who'd be tossed out of every place on earth except a TV show. I don't recall this happening to Shore's last creation -- Greg House. He was obnoxious from the get-go, but that was part of his unique charm. I won't be watching the erstwhile good doctor next year. I suppose they could launch changes if they get enough reviews like this -- or get feedback from somebody besides the network executives -- because they have clearly lost their way. Seriously, when ever Shaun comes on the screen I emotionally leave the room.

Show is going downhill quickly
pbenen17 February 2021
As recently mentioned, this show presently is using almost 75% woke subject stories. I'm almost fine having 1 of the stories following a woke subject (after all it is a network), but to have the majority of the program addressing woke subjects is not acceptable for a diverse audience. It almost appears as if the writers are trying for this

Such a inspiring show! Don't understand the bad reviews.
merrib139 October 2017
The Good Doctor is so amazing and inspiring! The show carries a beautiful positive message. Telling us no matter how hard life can be there's always something to be happy about. We need more TV shows like This Good Doctor.

I don't understand all the negativity from all the IMDb reviews. People may hate this show, but I love it!

Freddie Highmore brings an amazing performance, and the rest of the cast are great. I look forward to seeing what the show brings in the future!

Great family show!
pmisiaszek12 November 2017
The Good Doctor TV show is totally now my number one favorite! I hope it's around for a hundred season's! Freddie Highmore is an excellent actor! All the actors and actresses are great but Freddie is my favorite! I was so sad when Bates Motel ended and I'm so happy this show was born! Love the story line of this fine young doctor with the disease Savant Syndrome and I like the projection of his medical knowledge figuring out the medical diagnosis with the patient and the reflecting of the memories of his past. This show is an inspiration to all!

Heat is on. Fantastic emotional value
suddco11 October 2017
Very original. For all those TV lovers who hate this series, I bet you would hate it but still watch it on demand. It sounds like a remake. But no. It's awesome acting by all. It is current. It is dog eat dog. It is ego. It is hypocrisy. It is jealousy. It provokes the audiences to the edge, about the mere idea for a person opposite to the hero to understand what our hero says. Truth is one. But if Shaun says it, then it's bad. If Jared says it, then it's good.

Wow. There are simple life truths that I learned from HOUSE.

GOOD DOCTOR is going to teach more.

Thank you mr. David.

Still great TV
nancyldraper26 September 2019
THE GOOD DOCTOR is back for its third season and all we like about it is still there: Shaun Murphy is still figuring out how to handle the "out of his control" aspects of his life; a great cast is still giving great performances; there are episodic medical dilemmas and season long character arcs. My rating remains unchanged, I give this series an 8 (great) out of 10. {Medical Drama}

The Anti-House
cherold11 October 2017
In the first couple of episodes I kept thinking how this series was House but with a nicer protagonist. You've still get a brilliant doctor who sees things others don't, pushes against authority, and has poor social skills, only this time instead of a surly, middle-aged alcoholic the doctor is a sweet autistic kid (seriously, he looks about 14). And guess what, as I just learned on IMDb, both shows were developed by the same guy!

Like House, the series is a mix of drama, humor, and medical mystery solving. Freddie Highmore is excellent as the genial but socially inept doctor, Shaun, although he is perhaps a little too much, for those who have seen the series, like Data from ST:TNG. The rest of the cast is quite good, with the lovely Antonia Thomas taking Hugh Laurie's place as the English actor with a spot-on American accent.

The series is quite funny and affecting, but it is also pretty ridiculous. In the first episode Shaun goes through an elaborate process to save someone with no explanation of why it must have taken about two hours for an ambulance to arrive. Other doctors are dismissive and cavalier just so Shaun can show off. The flashbacks are a mixed bag and often feel unnecessary.

But in spite of its flaws, of which there are many, I just really like this so far. It's dumb but tremendously entertaining.

Its got great story and technicality, Its gonna be very popular very soon.
vedhavicky5525 September 2017
Some part of the Story makes you cry literally. The Idea of a genius doctor finding it difficult to have a proper social relationship is quite common in Movies and TVs. One famous example is "Sheldon Cooper" from "Big Bang Theory". Even "Sherlock Holmes" has some issues over Human emotions. These qualities are always welcomed by the viewers. The setup of a hospital is also very popular among many, like "Grey's Anatomy", "House MD". Come to think of it, This TV series is much like House MD but with a Good Doctor not a pain in the a** kind of Doctor.

The show itself is a roller coaster ride of emotion with just the right amount of humour.

REVIEW - THE GOOD DOCTOR

I've never really been a fan of medical shows such as House or Grays Anatomy but as I have worked with adults with Autism in the past I thought I'd give this show a try.

The premise of the show is very original and for disabled people very positive which I applaud.

The show itself is a roller coaster ride of emotion with just the right amount of humour.

So far I've binge watched season 1 and the twists and turns of the stories focused on the characters including Dr Murphy is excellent.

Even though the show is primarily about how Dr. Murphy integrates and copes with his profession the show doesn't take anything away from the other customers.

Love this show to bits and do recommend you give it a try.

Lea ruined the show.
wpecptdyg9 January 2022
A great tv show but Lea ruined the show. Her character is shallow, pathetic, immature, not fitting in any of the shows spirit and she ruins the show completely.

great

I admitt, Freddie Highmore was the basic motif to see this serie. After so many medical series, it is not easy to expect to much from the new ones. But , "The Good Doctor" has two seductives, decisive virtues. First - the lead actor and his magnificent work. Second- the fine story of each episode. Yes, it is a film about autism. And it is a wise, nuanced, precise and empathic one. A serious serie about a so delicate subject. And new demonstration about the gorgeous talent of young Highmore.

This show has a lot of heart and unexpted humour, but does tend to lose its way a bit when trying to be too political.

Excellent hybrid medical procedural/serialized
rhroncich28 April 2019
The Good Doctor handles the hybrid format of procedural and serialized drama with ease that hasn't been seen in recent years on network TV. The regular characters are slowly and creatively revealed, and the medical cases are on point. The exploration of a character with ASD is handled with finesse, while being educational about the condition without being pedantic. There's some real love in how this show is written. Acting is incredible, writing is creative and fresh.

Love Shaun Murphy
pshbhatt3 June 2019
Another masterpiece from David Shore (House MD). I will not comment about accuracy of Autism because honestly I don't know much about it but this show is entertaining. I also would not comment on the accuracy of medical procedures because again I am not a doctor but that's the point. Fictional TV shows are about entertainment and not accuracy. If you want accuracy, discovery channel or other Channels are for you. This is just entertainment.
