Zari Tomaz : [Mick uses his totem powers to cook food] Hey, hi, um, do you think that maybe you could do that somewhere else? We do have a galley.
Mick Rory : You want a dog?
Zari Tomaz : It's pork.
Mick Rory : So what?
Zari Tomaz : No, thank you.
[he uses his powers to pop a bowl of popcorn]
Zari Tomaz : Wow, I'm sure that's what those ancient folks had in mind when they created the Fire totem.
Mick Rory : Every man's gotta eat.
-
Gideon : Sorry to interrupt, Ms. Jiwe, but Dr. Heywood requests your presence in the library.
Amaya Jiwe : Captain's duties are never over. But seeing as you're not busy...
Zari Tomaz : [to herself] No, no, no, please don't... please don't ask me.
Amaya Jiwe : I can't think of anyone better to learn to train a new totem bearer.
-
Amaya Jiwe : There you are, Mick. You ready?
Mick Rory : For what?
Amaya Jiwe : Training. Do you remember? We spoke about learning to harness the powers of the totem.
Mick Rory : Hmm. I got a new trick. Pull my finger.
Amaya Jiwe : What?
Mick Rory : Pull my finger.
Zari Tomaz : Do not pull his finger. Let's just say hot dogs aren't the only thing he's learned how to light on fire.
-
Zari Tomaz : Okay, you said to wait until after your second lunch. This is your fourth. Amaya wants me to teach you how to use your totem, so let's get cracking.
Mick Rory : If I wanted to learn, I would've gone to school.
-
Zari Tomaz : [irritated at Rory] Sorry, blood sugar thing. Fasting.
Mick Rory : Fasting.
Zari Tomaz : Yeah, I'm not eating.
Mick Rory : Trying to lose some fat, huh?
Zari Tomaz : No, I love my body. I'm trying to observe Ramadan.
Mick Rory : [offering a tray of sandwiches] So observe it on a full stomach.
Zari Tomaz : Is this bacon?
Mick Rory : You Jewish?
Zari Tomaz : [giving up] I don't even know what... I can't.
-
Zari Tomaz : Okay, now concentrate on the target. It's about focus and precision.
Mick Rory : Like I need help lighting things on fire.
-
Zari Tomaz : I said just the target, you idiot.
Mick Rory : I'm the idiot?
Zari Tomaz : Yeah.
Mick Rory : You're the one who doesn't eat when you're hungry. Maybe if you did, you wouldn't be such a bitch.
Zari Tomaz : [insulted] What did you just say?
Mick Rory : You heard me.
-
Mick Rory : [Zari uses her totem powers to spin him around in the air] I'll do what you want. Just... just put me down.
[their totems light up, and she puts him down]
Mick Rory : Thanks.
Zari Tomaz : No, it wasn't me, it was our totems. Something's wrong.
[she activates her totem]
Zari Tomaz : It's Kuasa. She's dead.
Mick Rory : Yeah. I need a drink.
-
Mick Rory : Thought you couldn't eat.
Zari Tomaz : Yeah, I told Gideon to tell me when sundown would've been if I'd been at home. But, I mean, Ramadan is just a stupid 1,400 year old tradition to you, right? So why am I even talking about it?
Mick Rory : [conjuring a fireball] Well, uh, how about if I help you heat it up?
-
Zari Tomaz : You know, I can't stop thinking about Kuasa. I felt her die.
Mick Rory : Uh, me too. Mind you, she did try to kill us a couple of times.
Zari Tomaz : But she was a totem bearer, and Amaya's granddaughter. And the totems supposedly connect us to something larger.
Mick Rory : Yeah, for better or worse.
Zari Tomaz : You know, I think that's kind of why I still fast. When I was little, my mom tried to get me to do it. And I wouldn't, but she did make me learn how to cook iftar. It's the meal we eat to break the fast. And while she cooked, she would say that Ramadan's not just a time for honoring God, but a time to honor tradition and family. Community. So whenever I fast or cook iftar, it... it makes me feel connected to my mom.
Mick Rory : I'm hungry.
Zari Tomaz : Still pork.
Mick Rory : Still good.
