A Unique Picture

Just finished watching 'A Silent Agreement'. It's an Autralian feature film Davo Hardy made a little while back that completely utilises Australian sign language throughout it. It's about an lgbt couple, one who is deaf and one who has a severe speech impediment and the main character Ruben's struggle to break into a career in the media industry.

I really felt a connection to Ruben in it, who is told early on that he would never achieve his dream. I've had similar issues given my Asperger's and I just felt it really resonated with me.

Davo and Paul Mecurio were fantastic. It felt almost like second nature to them. Would highly recommend. 10 out of 10.

A True Masterpiece!!

I'm ecstatic to have seen this amazing film, "A Silent Agreement" written, directed, produced by and starring Davo Hardy. I'm a huge fan of Davo's films already so I was really excited to see this one. The first film I've ever seen featuring Auslan, used as both the main language of the film and its story which was really impressive to me. It's amazing to see the movie being lead by an LGBTQIA+ couple too.

I heard that in interviews, Davo Hardy has said "the film was a response to his film mentors telling him he could not be a director because of his real-life stutter". Then this masterpiece came to be. Really reminds us all that we can achieve whatever we want no matter who we are and/or what we may struggle with in our everyday lives. Iconic! Definitely a must see!

Excellent Storytelling

This was a great example of the hearing and deaf world coming together. The relationship between Reuben and Derek was amazing and I loved how they fed off of each others energy. The reality of how the deaf community is looked upon as kitchy and something to be exploited was evident but the fact that the main character Reuben also had a disability (stutter), I felt that was not touched upon enough in the film. My only criticism is that the character of Gareth seemed forced, his personality did not come across as realistic to me. He seemed like he was portraying a person that he was not like in real life. He seemed too nice a guy to be acting like that. Otherwise, I recommend this film to all my deaf and hearing friends alike. Well done!
