- In Wessex, king Alfred' mourns his bossy mother, Judith, died from cancer, but Lagertha who recalls after the battle. a witch cut her hair to start a new life stresses he must now honor her lifework by ruling well. Ubbe painstakingly duels bigger Danish king Frodo and wins, so the Viking settlement Ragnar dreamed of is achieved with kings Hemming and Angantyr settle in East Anglia, but Ubbe is terminally injured, calling for Odins on his deathbed as the cross never helped him. In Kattegat, Ivar duly hits Freydis who dared blame him as their deformed baby son Baldur's corpses was found devoured by foxes, yet keeps up charade to the people, announcing the approach of one, no two armies, requiring optimal defense fortification. Rivals Bjorn and king Harald nearly duel, stopped by Gunnhild, after their fleet was ravaged sailing through a storm to reach Norway. While marching toward Kattegat with still insecure king Olaf and his army, Hvitserk is reunited with equally delighted Bjorn. Ivar abandons his plans for a York recapture to stay in Kattegat and confront his brothers. In the 'divine' cave Floki finally finds a cross planted in the ground. He begins to laugh hysterically as the volcano erupts and injures him.—KGF Vissers
- In England, King Alfred's mother, Judith, dies from cancer. Alfred announces a day of mourning in his Kingdom.
Ubbe and Frodo prepare to fight. If Frodo dies, his people will settle in East Anglia, but if Ubbe dies, all the 3 Dane kings will attack Wessex together. Ubbe fights King Frodo and wins but is badly injured. As he is about to die, Ubbe calls Odin for help. Ubbe gathers his remaining strength and manages to defeat Frodo in combat, ultimately killing him. Torvi kills Frodo's guards who try to intervene after Frodo is killed.
Because of Ubbe, the war is prevented and Kings Hemming and Angantyr settle in East Anglia with their people. Ubbe returns to the castle at Wessex. Ubbe tells Torvi that during his fight with Frodo, he was filled with the spirits of his old Gods. Alfred leads the Dane Kings to their new lands in East Anglia.
Meanwhile, Lagertha is recalling what happened to her after the battle. Lagertha says that she lost all interest after seeing Heahmund die in battle and wandered off into the surrounding forest. She fell to the ground unconscious as she was found and rescued by the witch. She remembers that the witch cut her hair and told her she would then be a new person. Ubbe recovers after a long rest, and he, Torvi and Lagertha leave England for Kattegat.
In Kattegat, Freydis confronts Ivar about her missing son, and he strikes her. Hunters later find parts of Baldur in a fox's den and inform Freydis. Ivar confronts Freydis and demands to know if Baldur was really his son.
Bjorn, King Harald, and their army sail through a storm to reach Norway. In the heavy waves, wind and rain, many soldiers are thrown overboard, and the fleet emerges with the loss of many ships. The fleet also loses its navigation and now Bjorn does not know where they are. Bjorn is adamant that he will take back Kattegat and believes that the city is just behind a mountain range. Harald is irked that Bjorn takes his army for granted and asserts that his army will follow his orders and not Bjorn's. Harald is frustrated by Bjorn's behavior and a deadly confrontation is only prevented by Gunnhild. Gunnhild slaps them both and reminds them that they need to fight together to get the crown of Kattegat.
While marching toward Kattegat with King Olaf and his army, Hvitserk is reunited with Bjorn. Olaf is not sure if he made the right choice, as every information he has indicates that Ivar is a force of nature and that his star is still rising. Hvitserk says that God works in mysterious ways. Hvitserk tells Bjorn that his fate is to kill Ivar.
Ivar changes his plans to reclaim York and decides to stay in Kattegat to confront his brothers.
Floki goes deep into the cave hoping to find the Gods. Floki travels deeper and deeper with the help of a torch and navigates the narrow crevices. In the cave, Floki finally finds a cross planted in the ground. He begins to laugh as the volcano erupts and injures him. Floki realizes that the land was inhabited by Christians previously, who perhaps left or died, as the land could not sustain them for a long period of them.
