Destination wedding gone wrong
moviefansme9 March 2019
More silly than scary, this horror comedy is more Meatballs than Friday the 13th, a playful stalker mystery that nevertheless is not quite a spoof of horror movies. The madcap storytelling keeps the characters and audience guessing with modern twists, satirizing fad diets, our dependency on our phones, and our natural inclination to overinterpret text messages and social media posts. The setup has fun by knowingly piling on horror cliches like the sleepaway camp being at the site of Indian massacres, witch burnings, and having at least one unexplained camp attendee disappearance. It's a small budget effort with a limited cast and a single setting. Good for a slumber party with friends who don't like anything too scary.

All Over The Place Cheese Fest
Foutainoflife25 August 2019
Yep. This was a super cheesy flick.

Was there even one drop of blood? I don't think there was.

However, there was a lynched Cabbage Patch doll, a Teddy Ruxpin, a walkman, cassette tape, polaroid camera and a gluten-free knife.

This was just a no.

The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because it did a good job at making the cell phone screens and conversations easy to see and read. That's a little thing that gets on my nerves but they did a decent job with it.

Everything else was a big NO.

Felt like five hours while watching...
confusion_ends19 January 2021
This could've been a ton more intriguing, but the unbelievably thin plot and pace screwed it all up. I watched it over a span of two days...and yet it still felt like an eternity to complete. Three stars for some fun dialogue.

Thought I'd give this a try. Regretted it
sean-lovett21 August 2019
I watched this because it's listed as comedy-horror. I thought maybe it would be like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (great movie, btw. If you haven't seen it, go watch that instead of this) but no.

I don't want to be mean here, so I'll say one nice thing about this. The story was somewhat unique. Now onto the bad:

The acting - some were over the top, while others seemed to be phoning it in.

The dialogue - It came across unnatural and silly. I founf myself wondering more than once "who talks like this?"

The comedy - I kept waiting for the funny, but the jokes just fell flat. It felt as though a laugh track might have helped as a que to let people know "oh, that was a joke."

The horror - what horror, where?

If this is/was a student film (which is exactly what it felt like) I'd say they deserve at most a D+ cause at least they tried, kinda.

Right in the middle

This movie is not scary or really that funny. The story is a reasonable effort, don't expect big things though. Some bits were good and some bits were bad, this is the reason for my average rating. I would recommend it, if you have nothing better to do.

Somebody is goshdarned lying about this film.
capnwinky-9378420 August 2019
I'm willing to bet dollars to pennies that these other reviews were bought and paid for by people tied to the movie. This film was one of the lowest of low budget trashterpieces I've seen in a good decade. The practical effects look like someone fired the makeup artist and just sent one of the interns on a Dollar Tree run and gave them a promotion for a few hours. The acting was so ridiculously thespian that I was waiting for the house lights to come on mid-film. And the editing...why do low budget films feel the need to hang onto long dialog pauses? Edit that stuff out and move to the next line and/or scene already. The humor had a few small puns that exerted a snide chuckle here and there but it was mostly sophomoric at best; we're talking freshmen level National Lampoon here. Don't get bamboozled, folks.

I Normally Love Funny Horror
rhythmisadancer-7278911 September 2019
But this wasn't funny. It was just dumb. And I'm not even a snob when it comes to humor. I liked Scary Movie. I liked Scary Movie 2! This movie was just too low and gross.

A reson in itself to introduce negative stars
thebodzio21 August 2019
Boring, unimaginative, loaded with anti-christian stereotypes, obligatorily PC and top coated with obscenity here and there.

I don't mind the low budget movies. What I do mind is bad stories and bad storytelling.

You might want to skip on this one...

I opted to sit down to watch the 2019 horror comedy "Camp Wedding" despite of the fairly low rating that the movie had managed to land here on IMDb. I must admit that I liked the movie's cover, and the movie's synopsis sounded campy enough to actually make for an entertaining enough semi-slasher, I suppose.

Turns out that writers Greg Emetaz and Cara Consilvio just didn't manage to collectively come up with an overly entertaining movie script, much less actually write something with much of any appeal.

The storyline told in "Camp Wedding" was just bland and rather dull. Actually, I found it to be insanely boring and pointless, and there was nothing worthwhile to sit through here. I gave up on "Camp Wedding" not even half-way through the ordeal. Yeah, the movie was that boring and uneventful.

The characters in the movie were one-dimensional cardboard cut-outs, so they didn't provide much of any entertainment, and the acting performances were staggering and faulty at best. Nothing impressive in terms of acting performances to be experienced here. I suppose it was because of the way too inferior script and storyline, plus the utter lack of interesting characters that were serving as inhibitors on the actors and actresses.

"Camp Wedding" was frightfully devoid of both horror and comedy elements, so director Greg Emetaz was just not delivering where it mattered. And it was showing throughout the course of the movie.

I am rating "Camp Wedding" a staggering one out of ten stars, as this was definitely one of the worst horror comedies I have had the misfortune of stumbling upon. Do not waste your time, money or effort on this one. Some of us did, to greater or smaller extend, so you don't have to.

It was fun....
shaylad205530 October 2019
The movie was fun and the acting was decent but the characters were annoying. The ending wasn't satisfying and it felt rushed. The beginning of the movie showed so much promise but overall I was let down. There are some really funny parts but that's just about it.

Fun low budget flick
xianboyd23 August 2019
I really rather enjoyed this movie. It certainly hasn't been graced with the largest budget and A list actors or anything, but it more than made up for that by being fun and original. The acting was not superb but it was better than a lot of television acting in syndicated shows. It may have helped that I've known some the stereotypes depicted in this to actually occur, especially with misinterpreted text messages. The plot moved along rather briskly and had numerous twists and deceptions lain throughout, while still being firmly based in horror tropes. The wit in the movie flopped badly at times but still delivered a few great laughs. All in all I came away pleased that I'd spent my time viewing the film and instantly thought of a couple friends who'd enjoy this at least as much as I. Gravitas seems to be picking up a higher quality collection of films this year after seeing this and Blood Paradise. I read some other reviews before watching this and realized that I had to write a review that wasn't oddly biased like the others I'd read. Hopefully you'll give this one a chance if you're into low budget silly horror flicks.

Waste of time!
spacyblu9 September 2021
I just happened to find this movie while I was looking for something to watch big mistake. Not one of the characters in the movie was even a little likeable not one, they were all absolutely annoying. When you find out what is going on it turns out to be so stupid. I don't know why they made this look like a slasher film because there was zero blood. Don't waste your time with this one.

Loved Camp Wedding!!
thedinnerpartyfilm22 August 2019
Really enjoyed watching this film! It was a fun romp and captured the spirit of independent cinema. Tons of heart in it... It's easy to tell that someone who loves horror films made this with their own signature take. Job well done!

Low rating seriously?
amine-201021 November 2019
I'm going straight to the point of the movie this is not a blockbuster in horror genre like (the cabin in the woods or Halloween or something famous) this is from guys they definitely they were addicted to slasher genres of 80/70s and they write something unique and different and bloody enjoyable ..for fans who appreciate this genre so the question how was movies horror slasher in 80s in writing and directing and acting? Answer all bad but in the same time enjoyable (teen/gore/sex/drugs/killer) that's the story in 80s. So this movie does that thing with funny direction with few in every material... So go grab popcorn and sit back and enjoy if u are truly fan of slashser ( people rating low because this people are birth in 2000' so yes they get bored so they didn't watch old movies)

Gluten Free Knife
nogodnomasters23 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Mia (Kelley Gates-Amy Schumer clone) is getting married to Dalvero (David Pegram). The wedding is booked at Camp Po-cum-tuck that has an infamous history of burned witches, Native American Massacre, and a strict religious camp where a young girl was both struck by lightning and drowned. All plot points that work their way into the ending, but not that well.

The wedding location was booked by AirBnB and paid for by "gofundme." There is a very diverse group of characters all of which have no life outside of their cell phone, part of the humor. While at the camp, they discover remnants of the religious camp, including a Polaroid "Wall of Sin" for bad kids.

This was a movie that had potential. It was in part a generic spoof, something that might have worked better if it took aim at specific films such as making the Teddy Bear which looked like "Ted" talk like him. It is a film which I think I liked, but not sure how much, or if I am just embarrassed to say I liked it, even though it was a bit shallow and designed to be confusing.

Guide: F-word. Brief sex. No nudity.

Scooby Doo all grown up

Popcorn entertainment at its finest, reminded me of the Scooby Gang who left the puppy at doggie daycare to attend a camp wedding. Cheesy on purpose & great cinematography, I am happy to own the movie

Gluten Free Knife
christiangough15 May 2019
A suspenseful zigzagging mystery that gets more bonkers and absurd (in a good way) with each twist and turn. An ensemble cast of distinctive characters with great comedic chemistry. A complex backstory with enough brilliantly executed gags and dramatic farce to carry you to an insane climax unaware of the stealth exposition. This is a great party movie that takes the misunderstandings and gossip of social media to it's bloody extremes.

SO MUCH like REAL camp! FUNNY and POIGNANT!
matthewsteffens21 August 2019
I'm not a big horror fan, so I started this movie with my guard up, but what i found was a hilarious, poignant movie that was a lot of fun, while at the same time commenting on our obsession with our phones. Don't get me wrong, i jumped OUT OF MY PANTS a couple of times, which i solidly respect. I thought the writing and direction was really smart, and this may sound weird, but the sound editing was on POINT! As someone who spends lots of time at a summer camp, this one hit the nail on the head. I will definitely be checking the emails on my groomsmen list. Definitely worth the watch.

Weird and Brilliant
gold-dragon-productions12 August 2019
Super fun movie. Funny and smart, creepy and (yes) a little campy in all the right ways. What at first seems like a love letter to 80's horror films actually ends up having a lot to say about our smart-phone saturated world. Highly recommended!

A WITTY, SCARY, NOSTALGIC BLAST
ja6153 September 2019
Camp Wedding feels very current, with a lot to say about today's mobile/social media-obsessed culture. At the same time, it's a loving throwback to 80s slasher horror movies, with loads of creepy forest ambience, glinting sharp objects, and a Carpenter-esque, synth-laden soundtrack.

The talented actors are clearly all having a blast with the witty dialogue, and their chemistry gives the movie an irresistible charm.

Ultimately, for all its stalking, murderous mayhem, the scariest thing in this movie is its spot-on observation of how technology has encroached on our relationships.

I love this movie, how could you not!
sallycoffeecup16 May 2019
I love this movie. Not just because I grew up watching slasher flicks and wonder how things would play out if you added cell phones into the mix but because its darn funny! When it comes to writing its important to keep the audience guessing. I don't want to watch films where I can predict the ending at the start. I was surprised all they way through. Please note that I watched this at this years Indy Fest so you might have to wait to see it in the theaters.

Smart, fun and innovative
playwithclay29 August 2019
An indie horror story driven by a set up I've never seen before, with fun characters. Some of these reviews are over-the-top negative because there doesn't seem to be enough gore for them. So yeah, if that's your criteria for liking a movie, okay. But if you like well written characters in a compelling and distinctive story with suspense and horror elements used in a smart way, this one is for you.

Hilarious Millennial Cult Film
thalassafischer9 August 2023
I knew I loved this movie from the moment Teddy Ruxpin quoth Bible scripture at me.

For a low budget comedy horror, this film is absolutely amazing. The 8 stars are for what they managed to pull off with what must have been a few thousand bucks.

Camp Wedding is definitely a niche flick for a very particular sort of person, mostly older wave Millennials who were kids in the 1980s and early 90s. In some ways Camp Wedding pulled off a parody of camp slasher flicks better than Ryan Murphy did with his entire famous dramatic American Horror Story franchise with the 1984 season.

I highly recommend this, it was a blast!
