Souta returns home terrified after leaving the tanuki but the following day, he saves it from an old lady in their neighborhood who has gotten angry due to the fields it destroyed.
Souta's childhood friend Shinobu Nakajima drags him and Poco on a fishing trip early in the morning near the lighthouse. Nakajima mentions his mother nagging him about getting married.
Souta's older sister Rinko visits her brother to assist him in cleaning the house before it goes on sale and is introduced to Poco, who then becomes afraid of her.
Buttering his longtime friend up with some bone-in chicken, Souta asks Nakajima to go with him to shoot a video for a class reunion. The two return to their old high school and end up reminiscing about the good old days.
Souta takes Poco with him to Tokyo. When they step into the office, Poco becomes the center of attention. Souta begs his boss for an extension of his vacation, still torn about what to do. He wants to work, but what about Poco?
While visiting the touristy island of Shodoshima to meet with the proprietor of Team Planet (the small-scale ad design company Souta hopes to freelance for), Souta and Poco become separated.
While cleaning the house in preparation for the anniversary of their mother's death, the Tawara siblings, kept company by Poco and Nakajima, suddenly realize that lunchtime is nearly upon them.
With Souta, Rinko, and Nakajima more or less settled into their stations in life, Souta begins to plan for his life with Poco-starting with looking at local daycares.
In the wake of the tail-slip incident, Souta pursues Poco deep into the fairgrounds, where Poco uses his tanuki magic to show the young man scenes of his past.
