I'm confused by the negative reviews
thellian5 October 2020
I'm 67 episodes into the series, and it rates a solid 7/10 for me so far. The main story develops at a slow pace, but it does steadily develop and climax with beautifully animated battles and emotionally-touching interactions. Some of the episodes drag on too long or focus on side-stories that aren't very interesting, but it all adds up in the end. However, I understand the criticisms about the story.

I don't understand much of the other criticisms though. Some complain that Boruto doesn't embody the same spirit as Naruto, while others complain that it's too similar. Without giving spoilers, the story that's told is one where the older generation of ninja deal with protecting a world at peace, and the younger generation try to live up to their parents despite maturing in a very different environment. Each character, old and young, grapples with the path they choose to follow. In this way, it is very similar to the original series. And yes, a lot of the old jutsus are passed down, but there are also improvements and totally new ones. In a lot of ways it feels like a continuation of Naruto, but in other ways it is a completely different show, and I think that has some people confused.

If you want Naruto 2.0, Boruto isn't it. If you want a completely new experience, Boruto isn't it either. If you go into the show without expecting it to be one way or the other, you may enjoy its carefully-crafted story like I have.

Decent, certainly not the best, but overhated for the most part.
DonavanDaDastard4 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
One would imagine that Boruto would be quite spectacular if it were seasonal, however, the fact that it is weekly and the manga is monthly means there are a few limiting factors:

1. Animation quality is very inconsistent, often times SAKUGA level and other times... weekly shonen level. It makes sense.

2. There is more anime canon than manga canon. This isn't inherently bad, but there are a few times that anime canon arcs are boring or lacklustre. Other times (i.e. Deepa), they can be very good. Also, many seem to claim that the anime canon is simply filler and are not worth your time, but I really do digress.

3. There are fillers - the weakness of many weekly shonen. Let's face it, fillers are not good. Even in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, there were very few good filler arcs throughout the entire 720 episode runtime.

Now onto some inherent flaws of the anime (and possibly manga).

1. Some characters are pretty damn one dimensional. Right now, characters like ChoCho, Inojin, and a bunch of other genin of the generation have a lack of depth and a maximum of 2 character traits. Well, not that many of the last generation were that interesting either... And DO NOT get me started on Shikadai. He is cool and somewhat interesting, but he is literally a clone of his father.

2. It has some boring anime canon. Now this is subjective, and I don't absolutely despise any arc in particular, but arcs like the Jugo arc were really not worth watching. It had like, 2 good scenes. All I can really say.

3. Arsenals are not entirely shown. Canonically speaking, the fact that Naruto and Sasuke do not use the entirety of their arsenals makes sense, like in that one fight which occurs near episode 200 that I will not name, the other jutsus and gizmos they have would not have helped the situation. But still, it is disappointing for my inner fanboy.

4. Jutsu absorption doesn't work with ridiculously strong opponents. With Momoshiki, the idea of jutsu absorption and regurgitation was a parallel to Boruto's fatal flaw of desiring instant gratification, and Momoshiki's absorption ability was worked around very well, as the power was facilitated through vulnerable eyes and Momoshiki was not stupidly fast. Isshiki, on the other hand, is far faster and stronger than the strongest ninjas, and the only requirement for him to use his 'absorption' is just existing. Thus, Isshiki's Sukunahikona kinda just makes him ridiculously strong, and the issue is that it invalidates previously established abilities. Basically, ability absorption / nullification is bad writing in most cases, so do not do it.

And now, onto some good points.

1. Animation is absolutely gobsmacking when it shines. I can at least appreciate that.

2. The anime mostly handles the manga portions better than the manga itself - by adding additional arcs, extra episodes or minute touches to flesh out the context, world and surrounding characters. Quite good.

3. Characters like Kawaki, Mitsuki, Sarada and Boruto (kinda) have some surprising depth and good chararcter arcs, as opposed to the one dimensional characters or the parent clones mentioned earlier.

4. Anime canon (usually) provides character developments and covers defining events for certain characters that leaves them otherwise barren in the manga. For instance, the genin exams and the Mitsuki arc.

5. OPs and EDs are bangers, not that it really matters.

Yeah, that's about it. All in all, 7/10. But Boruto is the kind of anime that you should watch for yourself to see if you like it or not.

Be patient, it gets better as the story evolves.
eatmyyoyo29 June 2020
Recently finished watching all the aired episodes so far (154). I see most of the Naruto fans are disappointed in this "next generations" show. But what we have seen in 154 episodes should be just the tip of the iceberg. Let's not forget the fact that this show takes place in a much different era where the majority of adult ninjas try to keep the world peaceful. Ninja vs. peace? It may sound like a bad idea, but if this show is going to run for years like Naruto did, I'd say wait until the story develops more layers. So far, it's been 8/10 for me and I rated Naruto 10/10. Boruto and his friends are just spoiled kids of peace and prosperity who haven't seen any major hardship, or turning points in their lives yet.

I can't wait to see the episodes accumulate until I start watching this show again.

Do not judge this anime due to its slow start
apendse4525 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Anime start seems to be very slow and not much happening but when The Otsutsuki Invasion things are starting to get serious again. The fights scenes are back and i can say they awesome.

So viewers do not judge this anime due to its slow start. Its gonna be up to the mark with naruto anime series.

You can notice the all recent rewiews are 9/10 only the old ones are bad, because the story started slow, characters needed buildup, but now its getting better and better.

Think it gets better with time? Think again

I was so excited when this show came out as Naruto was and still is my ultimate favourite show of all time. To my surprise, it started off on a really low point with a very shallow story line, boring characters and no note worthy villians.

I thought, ok it's still early, I'm sure they will have character development and that given a little time I would come to love the show as I did Naruto. Sadly, that never happened. 241 Episodes in and still the show is at best mediocre.

I really didn't want to be one of the haters, but all the elements that made Naruto an exceptional series are missing in this "Next Generation" version. Everything you came to love from the original is destroyed, and even the original characters like Konohamaru, Naruto, Sakura, Kakashi and others have become bland and feel like shells of themselves.

It sadens me to say that I honestly feel like this show was very unnecessary and shouldn't have been made. My 3 star rating is soley for Kawaki, as he is the only character that feels fit to be in a Naruto series.

This is what a post-war civilization looks like. Though some of the established traditions were broken, the lack of story is realistic.

If you love it please keep it to yourself
Cavendish0000629 July 2022
A few months ago there was a community and 2 anime chat groups were asking us to rate Boruto 10 stars on IMDb to counter the hate.

So, after rating 10 stars it feels unfair so I watched 208 episodes and Yes, Boruto is far worse than all these reviews.

This is not like anyone wants to hate it or didn't give it any chance but most are just telling about what is wrong with Boruto.

Only 6 episodes are worth watching and the rest is trash. The entire storyline is so immature, senseless, forgettable, messed up, misleading and unfaithful to its own rule.

Worse world-building, dead-humour, terrible dialogues and cheap animation.

Then I read reviews that said that Give chance is getting better, then read manga, after kara, don't hate without a watch and many excuses like these.

And after watching 259 torturing episodes and reading 68+1 chapters of this disaster. I can say Boruto is waste of time. The creators only wanted to sell their and not to tell any good story or be faithful to their creation.

Boruto is bad because of these so-called real fans, they are accepting whatever creators do, giving views and time to force them to create more s''''' like this. If real fans give their time they will create more than 200 episodes like these and seasons 2,3,4,5 and 6 with lots of spin-offs.

So fans go ahead to support them for disasters like Boruto.

And if you like but that's not my problem but keep to yourself and stop asking for 10 stars because a good anime don't need a defence or advertising but here fans never stop yelling and being offended by every joke and opinion.

Anyway, stop blaming reviews and asking others to give 10 stars to something that you liked

Ok now scroll up to the next review.

Ever since the Mujina Bandits, Kara and Kawaki arc started, Boruto has started to become really good. Manga Canon episodes are simply 🔥🔥. Just skip the fillers even Naruto had tons of fillers, and most of them were bad. Just skip them.

Nothing good after the chunin re-examination, worst animations and fight scenes in the recent Episodes 233-254.
rupeshsah-6468417 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I almost feel like a stupid who is still watching this trash show in the hope that it might get better. The Kara and Isshiki arc were the only good episodes and worth watching. But only 1/4 of the episodes are good and not filler episodes and that's very poor quality of content. Overall plot is too lazy. And this show has already received too much hate they should focus on the quality rather than quantity.

I like the series as there is different story line where boruto want to became like Sasuke and sarada want to became like Naruto. I am interested in watching what they became and the next generation is also different as compared to old leaf village and I also like the children of all characters

Ruining Naruto's Lagacy
The anime is only running due to Old Naruto and Sasuke fans. But due to awful stories and episodes I think we need to let go the franchise and remember the memories of the Naruto series. This series is just a bunch fillers and fillers, lowest quality of arcs which are only stretched illogically. I hope they keep their focus on Boruto and its story, rather than telling stories about all the 20+ useless characters. Otherwise there is no future of Boruto.

Pick up and drop
bluehoodie-1919428 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A solid and very enjoyable series when it's adapting the manga content, and even improves on some of the manga's rough edges in some places (E.g. Removing the scene where Naruto intimidates Kawaki using a show of strength when he arrives at their home for the first time).

The animation in major battles and usually at some point in the 'anime canon' arcs make up for a less detailed art style than in Shippuden, and I find myself rewatching these clips (Naruto and Sasuke Vs Momoshiki, Sakura Vs Shin, Team 7 Vs Deepa, Kawaki Vs Garou etc.)

Unfortunately a lot of the 'anime canon' (which is mostly filler content, let's be honest) is often so uninteresting and uninspired it really brings the overall quality of the series down.

I find myself dropping the series every time I know there won't get manga content adapted for some time (judging by these episodes' scores this isn't a decision I regret) and picking up the episodes/arcs that score reasonably high in between (Inojin Vs Houki, for example).

I think this series will be enjoyed better in retrospect when the story is complete and people can choose whether they want to watch the 'anime canon' content rather than have to wait months at a time for good, high quality content.

fillers into filler
ebrfawzy27 July 2022
It is five years since boruto series started and till now it is only around 10 episodes out of 259 that maybe not considered as a filler in my opinion. It feels like naruto world is converted into children cartoons!
