Although collecting physical media doesn’t have the convenience appeal of streaming films, there is now sort of a stigma with purchasing movies through online platforms. Although its possible to compile a collection of movies through an online library, consumers will ultimately be at the whim of the service should it choose to keep the title available on their server. Additionally, there are a number of titles that don’t happen to find their way to have streaming access and physical media distributors like Shout and Vinegar Syndrome have dedicated their business to some overlooked titles.

Jon Hamm is getting his own Apple show — finally!
The Emmy-winning Mad Men grad, who previously “begged” Apple for a show of his own in a tongue-in-cheek ad for the streamer, will star in and exec produce the straight-to-series Apple drama Your Friends and Neighbors. The role marks Hamm’s first starring role in an ongoing drama series since AMC’s Mad Men wrapped its seven-season run in 2015.

The petty crimes begin to reinvigorate him until he breaks into the wrong house at the wrong time.

Miramax has prevailed in the bidding war for television rights to the “Halloween” horror franchise, meaning Michael Myers could soon be slicing and dicing his way across the small screen or assorted streaming platforms. The indie studio beat out other contenders, including A24, which was also in the mix for the rights, according to an insider with knowledge.
The auction was held by Malek Akkad’s Trancas International Films, which controls the franchise’s TV rights. It makes sense that Miramax would move aggressively to nab the option to make a television off-shoot, as the company shares ownership of the film rights with Trancas. Plus, the horror franchise has been very lucrative for Miramax, which also co-produces the “Scream” movies.
The deal comes a week after Miramax CEO Bill Block was canned from the company’s top post after overseeing a lackluster run of films such as “Confess, Fletch” and “He’s All That.

Based on the 1976 novel of the same name, Confess, Fletch manages to take the bones and tone of a comic murder-mystery and create something as charming as its protagonist. Gregory Mcdonald wrote 15 novels in the series, including two sets of spin-offs. Though the first novel was filmed back in 1985, the second took decades to come to the screen. That despite there already having been a sequel, one written specifically for the screen.
Mcdonald had other works adapted to film including Running Scared and Johnny Depp's directorial debut The Brave. Recurrent themes of murder, suicide, and bad deals abound. Noir-ish in intent, Confess, Fletch occupies a conspiratorial hinterland that'd be familiar to Chandler or Hammett or in some of the finer things the work of Fleming. When Fletch says "I'm an open book" he's got form.

Jon Hamm is a married man.
According to multiple reports and images that surfaced over the weekend, Hamm wed actress Anna Osceola on June 25 during a ceremony held at Anderson Canyon in Big Sur, a site that was featured in the finale of Mad Men, the critically acclaimed TV series that made Hamm a star. The location served as a stand-in for the Esalen Institute in the episode, and it has also been seen in The Sandpiper and National Geographic’s Big Sur: Wild California.
Per TMZ, the couple walked down the aisle to the theme song from the 1967’s James Bond franchise entry You Only Live Twice, and they did so in front of a starry guest list that included good friend Tina Fey, (newlywed) Billy Crudup, Paul Rudd, Mad Men co-star John Slattery, Larry David, Brooke Shields and others.

It is always an occasion for celebration when Jon Hamm and Tina Fey are back together on screen — big or small — having shared credits on various 30 Rock and SNL episodes (and the upcoming film version of Fey’s Mean Girls). There are actors who direct films, and there are those who establish themselves as real-deal filmmakers. In the first category we find John Slattery, a fine actor who, after a respectable career as “that guy,” reached a new level at age 45 thanks to Mad Men. The AMC series was still on the air when Slattery directed his first film, God’s Pocket, in 2014, and he returns now, nearly 10 years on, with the dark comedy Maggie Moore(s). Following his on-screen reunion with Mad Men co-star Jon Hamm in last year’s Confess, Fletch, Slattery here casts the actor in the lead role as Jordan Sanders, a lonely police chief investigating the connection between the murders of two women, each named Maggie Moore.

The next big Netflix movie ‘You People’ is packed with recognizable stars, but the breakout performer is Travis Bennett. The one-time Odd Future DJ and hype man keeps turning in progressively stronger performances. And he’s capable of trading punches with some of the funniest movie stars in the business.
Bennett has a lot of fans these days. Few are quite as dedicated to watching his rise as one person in particular, though: his mom.

We all have our favorite movies in any given year. The ones we raise up and champion with lofty titles like “Best Picture” or “Movie of the Year.” Sometimes in an attempt to claim that title we can even reach for consensus—or at least toward films we’re confident others have seen. However, there are times we each discover something that doesn’t have an obvious consensus. In fact, sometimes you can fall in love with a movie that it feels like nobody else in the world knows about.
Below is a collection of films that members of our staff feel that strongly about. They’re not the movies that wound up at the top of our poll for the best movies of 2022, but they’re movies that at least one of us thinks perhaps should… or that you should at least have heard about and have a chance to seek out.

John Slattery looks terrible. “I hate to dash your hopes,” the 60-year-old tells me down the phone from New York. “I’m in sweats. I’m making a cup of tea. I’ve just exercised. I…” He pauses, grasping for the right word to describe his current ghoulishness. He sighs. “I look like s***.” I can’t verify the alleged horror-show that is his appearance, but I’m not sure I believe him. Not John Slattery? Not Mad Men’s impeccably tailored bon vivant Roger Sterling? But he’s the king of pocket squares! With hair as white and well-coiffed as a Dulux pup!
Slattery is ruining his public image while at home with his pet dog circling his feet, his voice, at least, just as we remember it – that smooth, honeyed cadence that makes him Hollywood’s go-to for raconteurs, statesmen and authority figures. Tony Stark’s industrialist dad in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So you have probably heard that there’s a new Fletch movie out, which revives the wisecracking , investigative journalist of Gregory Mcdonald’s mystery novels for our wonderful modern age. You know, the character originally made famous by Chevy Chase? In Fletch, the 1985 comedy that’s arguably the former SNL star’s greatest onscreen moment not involving a golf club? And 1989’s Fletch Lives, the sequel that’s…let’s say “slightly less beloved” than the original?

The path to bring Greg Mottola's "Confess, Fletch" to the screen was long and circuitous. The character of I.M. Fletcher, a flip and funny investigative reporter, was first introduced in Gregory McDonald's 1974 novel "Fletch," and first appeared in cinemas in the 1985 feature film of the same name starring Chevy Chase. That film was followed by a sequel -- four long years later -- called "Fletch Lives," also starring Chase. Ever since, multiple versions of Fletch have been floated, most notably, "Fletch Won," an unmade movie that director Kevin Smith wanted to make for Miramax with Jason Lee in the title role. Former Miramax head honcho and convicted serial sexual predator Harvey Weinstein insisted that Smith make the film with Ben Affleck instead, leading to a years-long push-and-pull that resulted in the film not getting made. Since then, multiple actors have attempted to play Fletch, including Zach Braff and Jason Sudeikis.

Jon Hamm has something to confess: The “Confess, Fletch” actor, according to director Greg Mottola, “gave back 60 percent of his salary to the budget” to finish filming the Paramount/Miramax feature.
“I gave back some of my salary, not as much as Jon because he’s richer than me and I’ve got three kids,” Mottola told Uproxx in a recent interview. “And we bought three more days of shooting. We got it up to 30 days in Boston and one day in Rome. And we said, fuck it, we’re insane, we’re dumb. We’re going to make this movie.”
The 20 million film, released almost 40 years after Chevy Chase first brought the fictional reporter character Irwin M. Fletcher to life, was revived thanks to Hamm’s determination. When most people think of Fletch, they think of the dashing and disguise-exchanging character played by Chevy Chase. 1985’s Fletch, and its (mediocre) follow-up, Fletch Lives, were based on a long-running series of novels by Gregory McDonald, and Chase was a household name at the time of their release. While those movies have their time and place, the world has moved on, and with his film Confess, Fletch Greg Mottola hopes to present audiences with a more “on-model” version of Fletch, played by Jon Hamm.
In Confess, Fletch, we’re introduced to Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher (Jon Hamm), a former investigative journalist living as a travel writer based in Rome. Now involved with an heiress (Lorenza Izzo), when her father is kidnapped, he heads back to the States to find a priceless, stolen art collection they need for his ransom. In a chat covering her love for celebrity psychotherapist Esther Perel, Oprah and Clint Eastwood, Harden delves into her regrets and delights, and with touching honesty reveals an all-too-common lifelong struggle with feelings of shame.
She also picks the actress who would play her in the biopic of her life, what TV show she would take into her nuclear bunker and how she bit a hole in her tongue the first time she met Eastwood.
Recently Emmy-nominated for her guest role on limited series The Morning Show, Harden’s storied career has seen her win an Academy Award for playing Lee Krasner in the film Pollock, and later Oscar-nominated for her role in Mystic River. She also won a Tony for her work in the play God of Carnage.
Her latest film, Confess, Fletch, is in theaters and streaming starting today.

It was a role populated by Chevy Chase, and now returns to our screens with Jon Hamm as the title character, as Greg Mottola is bringing back Fletch.
To mark the release of Confess, Fletch – we had the pleasure in speaking to both Hamm and the director Mottola, as well as several other talented members of this ensemble, including John Slattery, Lorenza Izzo, Annie Mumolo, Roy Wood Jr and Ayden Mayeri. You can watch all interviews in their entirety below as we discuss what it is about this character of Fletch that makes him so popular amongst audiences, and of course, with Hamm and Slattery in the same film, and on the same press tour, we had to get in a couple cheeky questions of Mad Men. Would’ve been rude not to.

How certain films have decided to handle the pandemic has been fascinating. A film like "Three Thousand Years of Longing" reflects the world fairly accurately, where some people wear masks in public and others don't. "Confess, Fletch" makes an off-hand comment about the pandemic as to why Kyle MacLachlan's character doesn't shake hands. "Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn" conducts a PTA meeting outside to have open air circulation. Then there are the movies that use the pandemic to thematically link with their protagonists.
This is captured in Steven Soderbergh's crackerjack thriller "Kimi," where Zoë Kravitz's character is an agoraphobic person living in a time where going out in public is also a major health risk. So, when she does eventually have to leave her apartment and interact with people, the tension is unbearable. Venturing out into everyday society is now not something we take for granted.

Jon Hamm’s latest big screen character has a lot in common with James Bond: He’s witty, great with the ladies, and comes doused in a signature drink. A drink says a lot about a person, and the same goes for fictional characters. Whereas James Bond is dry and sharp like a martini, the easygoing charmer at the heart of “Confess, Fletch” is a little sour, a little sweet, and unafraid of a little flamboyance.
The comparison is not lost on Hamm.
“There’s very much some shared DNA there, for sure. It’s a series of stories. He’s sort of placed in different environments and conundrums and finds himself constantly on the wrong side of the law sometimes and has to use his wits and his wilds to get out. He doesn’t have the budget that maybe James Bond has for gadgets, but he does have...

The comedic whodunit “Confess, Fletch” features the best leading-man role that star Jon Hamm has enjoyed since his breakthrough performance as Don Draper in the exceptionally rich Madison Avenue drama “Mad Men.”
In the last seven years, Hamm has stood out in a few decent supporting roles — “Bad Times at the El Royale,” “Richard Jewell” — and some voice acting performances, particularly Tony Stark in the Marvel animated comedy “M.O.D.O.K.” and a brief cameo as “Don Grouper” in a 2016 episode of “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
Hamm gets to show more of his range in “Confess, Fletch,” a breezy murder mystery based on the second of Gregory McDonald’s “Fletch” novels, the first of which was adapted into a cultishly revered 1985 Chevy Chase vehicle.

I read Confess, Fletch for the first time in high school and, ever since, it’s remained a personal favorite. That often surprises people when I tell them that, not least because the name “Fletch” is less associated with Gregory Mcdonald’s genuinely funny novels than Chevy Chase’s considerably goofier incarnation of the journalist-sleuth in 1985’s Fletch and 1988’s Fletch Lives. The original Fletch adaptation essentially retains the structure and basics of Mcdonald’s original but changes the tone to better suit Chase. For better and worse, Mcdonald’s books string together often hilarious dialogue exchanges with aspirationally Hemingway-esque connective prose; they work better when the emphasis is on […]

An adaptation hoping to reclaim its protagonist from the performer who became synonymous with him in the ’80s, Greg Mottola’s Confess, Fletch may surprise moviegoers who only know Irwin Maurice Fletcher as the affably cartoonish sleuth played by Chevy Chase. Not only are the goofy disguises and many of the quips gone in this version, new star Jon Hamm (successor to would-be Fletches ranging from Jasons Lee to Sudeikis) is barely even trying to make us laugh, setting aside those chops in favor of easygoing charm. While the more mystery/less mayhem approach honors Gregory Mcdonald’s series of Fletch novels, it results in a very ordinary film — especially decades after the books’ publication, when funny and funny-ish detectives are a dime a dozen. In an agreeable way, Confess plays like the feature-length pilot for an ’80s TV detective series — or, in the present tense,...

Jon Hamm is stepping into a role first made famous by Chevy Chase.
In “Confess, Fletch,” Hamm stars as Irwin M. “Fletch” Fletcher, a former investigative journalist who’s called back by his editor (Hamm’s former “Mad Men” co-star John Slattery) to dig into a story.
In a new trailer for the upcoming film, Fletch’s investigation leads him to become the key suspect in a murder.

Jon Hamm’s version of Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher might not be in the mood for a steak sandwich or a steak sandwich, but he does have a continued knack for botching criminal investigations.
The first trailer for Confess, Fletch revives the title character that was created by author Gregory Mcdonald in a series of novels and became part of 1980s pop culture lore with the Chevy Chase-starring Fletch (1985) and its sequel four years later. The new Miramax film will be released theatrically, digitally and on-demand Sept. 16.
After a number of failed efforts to bring the character back to the big screen over the years, Hamm stars in director Greg Mottola’s comedy based on the Mcdonald book of the same name. The cast includes Hamm’s former Mad Men co-star John Slattery, along with Roy Wood Jr., Annie Mumolo, Ayden Mayeri, Lorenza Izzo,...

One of the projects I’ve been most intrigued about in recent years has been Greg Mottola’s upcoming Fletch reboot starring Jon Hamm. A few weeks ago, we revealed that the film, Confess, Fletch, would be getting a low-key theatrical/PVOD release on September 16th, before a bow later this year on Showtime (in a similar deal to what happened to Chris Pine’s The Contractor). Just a few weeks before it’s supposed to come out, Miramax has finally delivered a trailer revealing Jon Hamm’s take on the iconic character.
For those not in the know, Fletch is based on a series of books by Gregory McDonald. In the books, Fletch is an investigative journalist who writes under the name Jane Doe. Known for his sense of humor (and – in the movies anyway – his disguises), he typically becomes part of whatever story he’s pursuing. He’s...

The Morning Show Season 3 is finally starting to take shape.
The hit Apple TV+ drama has cast Mad Men's Jon Hamm for a key role.
Hamm is set to play Paul Marks, “a corporate titan who sets his sights on Uba, pulling Cory, Alex and Bradley into his powerful orbit,” according to the character breakdown.
Hamm's casting comes following the departure of Steve Carell, who exited the show in shocking fashion during The Morning Show Season 2.
Despite wrapping its second season in November 2021, a renewal for Season 3 didn't come until earlier this year, leading to some questions about the future.
However, given that Apple TV+ announced Charlotte Stroud (Homeland) has been confirmed as the new showrunner, taking over from Kelly Ehrin, the delay was likely until a new showrunner could be found.

The fifth season of Fargo has lined up its lead actors.

FX picked up a fifth season of Fargo in February, more than a year after the Chris Rock-led fourth season concluded. Season five will be set in 2019, in keeping with the show’s pattern of alternating seasons set in the recent past with ones taking place earlier in time (season four was set in the 1950s). The logline for season five reads, “When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?”

Daptone Records has released two more tracks from its upcoming live compilation The Daptone Super Soul Revue Live at the Apollo: Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens’ “Thank You Lord” and Saun and Starr’s “Confess It.”
“Thank You Lord” finds Shelton — who died earlier this year at the age of 78 — in fine form as she vamps and praises over a slick soul shuffle. Saun and Starr’s “Confess It,” meanwhile, feels like a smoldering Saturday night counterpart to Shelton’s Sunday morning worship, the two singers conjuring a burning secret with their dueling vocals.

During the past five decades, Rob Halford has been instrumental in defining the sound and look of heavy metal as the frontman for Judas Priest and with his own groups, Fight, 2wo, and Halford. In that time, the artist — who recently released his memoir, Confess — earned himself the nickname “The Metal God” and has sung alongside Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Pantera. But he’s always had diverse tastes, as shown by Priest’s covers of Joan Baez’s “Diamonds and Rust” or Fleetwood Mac’s “The Green Manalishi.”

The impact that Rob Halford and his band Judas Priest have had on heavy metal is immeasurable. His black-leather outfits gave the genre its trademark look, his pitch-perfect vocals gave it some drama, and his penchant for riding motorcycle onstage gave it some larger-than-life flair. When Halford came out as gay in 1998, the self-proclaimed Metal God broadened his role-model status to appeal to metalheads looking to break out of the closet.

Fletch is making a comeback: Jon Hamm will star in and produce a new feature film about the brazen investigative reporter to be directed by Superbad‘s Greg Mottola and hail from Miramax. The movie, like the Chevy Chase films in the 1980s, is based on Gregory Mcdonald’s 1970s and 1980s Fletch mystery novels.
The new film adaptation will specifically be based on the second book in the Mcdonald series, Confess, Fletch. In a mysterious chain of wild events, Fletch finds himself in the middle of multiple murders — one of which pins him as a prime suspect. While on a quest to prove his innocence, Fletch is tasked with finding his fiancée’s stolen art collection, the only inheritance she’s acquired after her father goes missing and is presumed dead. Zev Borow, consulting producer of the Lethal Weapon TV series, will be penning the feature adaptation.

The director tells If how she landed her first Netflix gig, which was produced by What Women Want’s Susan Cartsonis; collaborating with fellow Aussies, composer Michael Yezerski and editor Jane Moran; and how her career has ebbed and flowed since her debut film The Black Balloon.
Q: How did you get the gig?
A: I met with producer Susan Cartsonis to discuss the project and we connected right away. Susan responded to the vision I had for the movie and she then presented me to Netflix to pitch – which had to be done over Google...

“There was a time when ‘heavy metal’ was a dirty word,” Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford says. “But we have always said that we fly the flag of British heavy metal. It’s something that we’re extremely proud of. We take it seriously.”
For nearly half a century, Halford has been the voice of Judas Priest, screaming for vengeance against nonbelievers. Irene Anula, a star of breakout Spanish TV hit “Vis a Vis” (“Locked Up”), is attached to topline Aitor Uribarri’s survival thriller “Kintsugi,” which Spain’s Mano Negra Films will introduce to potential co-production partners at the Locarno Festival’s Match Me! forum.
Along with “Lady Laura,” starring “Locked Up’s” Itziar Castro and written and directed by Manuel Aguilar, “Kintsugi” marks another step up in production ambition at the Seville-based Mano Negra, which producer Daniel Mendez founded in 2010. First focusing on documentaries – most recently Vanessa Benítez’s “Rota n’ Roll” (2017); Guillermo Rocamora’s “Freedom is a Big Word” (2018) – Mano Negra moved into minority international fiction co-production, boarding Argentine Juan Schnitman’S upcoming “La sangre.” “Lady Laura” and “Kintsugi” mark its first two full-blown lead fiction feature productions.
