Season 2 of "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" is a clever 10-part mystery concerning a missing boy, a fantastical kingdom threatened by an evil mage, a trans-dimensional house, a black-ops government agency looking for people with paranormal talents, and several decades of inexplicable events. Into this morass drops Dirk and some of the characters established in season 1 (Todd, Amanda, Farrah, Bart, among others), who are drawn into the case (literally and figuratively). Don't let some of the goofy imagery in the 'fantasy world' turn you off, there is a certain internal logic to it all which becomes apparent as the story progresses. Admittedly, there is a bit of padding to fill out 10 episodes and some of the characters are so loud and over the top that it's hard to tell if they are just second-rate actors or first-rate actors playing at being second-raters, but things settle down after a few episodes and the story becomes quite intriguing. Much better (IMO) than season 1 but unfortunately destined to be 'season last' (at least as a BBC production) - too bad.
