I have a self defense flashlight LOL
thedarkestshadow-327857 August 2023
The male character is probably the stupidest horror movie character I've seen in a long time. He wants to go out to the middle of the woods at night and thinks a flashlight with a flashing SOS feature is gonna save him. I think his stupidity then infected his wife because of her whole " they're not dangerous they just returned your wallet" crap. At least she's really gorgeous.

I just have to laugh at the idiot reviewer here that expected a real horror documentary instead of a found footage mockumentary.

To the one reviewer who thinks there should be a crossover to hell house llc: why? The clown in that was a prop that the demons or whatever possessed. Has absolutely nothing to do with a bunch of psychopaths dressing up as clowns.

Minus one star for the stupid political black lives matter crap unnecessarily thrown in.

A bunch of halloween store clown costumes, and terrible masks do not a movie make.
ncolen2 November 2021
Its pretty funny I definitely had a good time and more than a few laughs watching it. Just so bad. So so so bad. Between the store bought rubber masks and halloween store clown costumes and I'm assuming complete lack of a script kills the horror elements. There is some nice photography the cinematographer/director of photography got some nice shots out of suboptimal circumstances but damn this movie is rough.

I mean it was not as good as I thought but it wasn't complete trash
lanagracecarlson12 June 2022
The movie includes torture and some strobe lights just a warning if you're not into that. So I'm someone who loves horror movies, I've already ran out. So now I'm watching a bunch off prime. So I've always thought the whole 2016 clown thing was interesting so I watched it. Now, the actors weren't good. And the filming was poor but I mean the budget was -1 so it's expected. Watching it, I didn't have a problem because I mean, I knew it was fake and just enjoyed it. Now the plot was good, it had an expected ending though, and some stupid decisions. I looked into Todd Smith after and as expected it's fake. Sooo overall it was poorly filmed, bad acting, not realistic, but I still enjoyed it and if you can get over those three things then it won't be that bad to watch. But if you're looking for something as good as the Blair Witch, you're not gonna find it here.

Turns out that the only real clowns here are the people who were bamboozled into wasting their time watching this movie.
steven-778111 November 2021
This was pretty bad and I'm usually a fan of found footage. The good reviews on here HAVE to be coming from people that have something to do with the movie because theres nothing good about this movie.

1 hour & 21 minutes I'll never get back. I have Coulrophobia, a fear of clowns, and this just made me laugh. Killer Klowns From Outer Space was 'scarier'. Bravo to the clown actors for for keeping their identity hidden. I'd certainly wouldn't show my face in association with this 'film'.

BOO on YOU, Liars! Not a Documentary about creepy clown sightings. :(
midnitepantera6 July 2021
This is just a cheap, low budget, bad acting wanna be horror movie. Brings NOTHING new to the table, doesn't have anything worth watching and nothing to do with the real cases from 2016 creepy clown sightings. Just a couple trying to cash in on old news with lies and bad acting. PASS on this.

A waste of time
Jojoringo12 July 2021
Nonsense dialogues, the story has no substance and the protagonists are annoying af, the most amazing part is when a clown is dancing in the middle of the road with light sticks.

How dare you waste my $3
leefelicia7 July 2021
If I could give this movie negative stars I would. I've seen my share of low budget horror found footage movies, but the acting here is so bad it bad me physically cringe. The main "actors" (if you can even call them this) are so annoying and bad I had to turn this swill off and turn to whiskey to comfort me. Don't waste your time or money.

Creepy found footage with dumb decisions
dwon-633498 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I love some of the found footage films, and Todd and Jessica Smith, I'm assuming are a real couple, created something quite original with the clown angle.

But, partial spoiler alert, (1) they go into the woods at night, and act shocked to be in danger, (2) Jessica acts like there's no danger, even after Todd was assaulted, and one of the clowns came to their residence.

It's that old adage of we can't believe how stupid the characters in the movie are.

Still, a really good scary idea for a movie, but can be improved upon.

Mockumentary Not Documentary
Foutainoflife14 July 2021
This was so stupid. What was the point? If it was meant to be found footage horror, it was s ridiculous attempt. The acting is awful. The clowns are goofy and the storyline, well all of it is just crap.

Clown Mock-Doc
Ann3825-923747 July 2021
Clearly it's a mock doc and lower budget but for what it is, it's definitely not bad! I've for sure seen far far worse! Looks like they took a page out of the Blair Witch book by trying to play it off like a true doc. I remember when the sightings were actually happening and they stayed true to the look of the actual clowns spotted. There hasn't been a film done on this topic, I think they did good with what they had and applaud them for their final results! Again I enjoyed it and not the worst I've seen!!!

Wish it would have come out closer to the actual sightings though!

Lazily written and with not enough info. But still pretty scary. I liked it.
TuesdayThe17th21 July 2021
The underground largely anticipated found footage movie "Behind the Sightings" was finally released on dvd yesterday. Usually these movies that go through production hell and are a bit rare because of it are not sought out by many other than myself lol or so it seems by the amount of immediate reviews on imdb follwing their release. However, I am pleasantly surprised to see several reviews for this film already after being out for only one day. I had high expectations for this film but I also knew what to expect. I basically had already decided I liked it before even seeing it based off its premise, horror sub genre, and its creepy movie poster that has been out for years. After viewing it last night, here are my final thoughts on the movie: Tony Caldwell is an ambitious director as he has pushed this movie ever so slowly to its release date. It probably wouldnt have been released with out his persistence and that is respectable. You can see that many scenes were added to this film recently as a way to update it from its original filming time frame of 2016. This is shown through interviews and modern references and clothing.

As i began the film i thought to myself "oh boy, I hyped this up too much in my head" but halfway through thr movie it started to get pretty good. Its legitimately scary at times. The footage is alllllll fictional so dont be fooled but this is very apparent in the acting through out. Nothing seems truly natural but its not awful acting either. Its sub par but not the worst. The two main characters are borderline annoying to watch but they are tolerable. One thing i did not lile was how they kept repeating themselves in the first half of the film. They stated their intentions and updates multiple times, saying the same exact thing over and over. Its like ok we got it move on. Im surprised at how hollow the film was considering its awaited release and the fact the filmmakers had plenty of time to shoot a few more scenes, but didnt. Basically they had a great idea for the second half of the movie but had no idea where to go with the first. Still, the super creepy clown make up and costume of the main villain was redeeming. Though drawn out, I liked the ending and even with being a seriously seasoned horror and ff fan, i was pretty creeped out by this character.

Overall, I liked it and I will watch it again in a year or less with my girlfriend this time, who i think will equally appreciate it. Don't knock Caldwell for trying as he was the force behind making this movie happen.

Blair Witch with Clowns
digitalhat7 July 2021
So, this is a mockumentary (not documentary) even though it tries to pull off a doc feel with lame costumes and bad acting. After the era of Blair Witch, you can't get away with this stuff anymore - especially if it's a blatant ripoff. Hard pass on this - and expect the rating to plummet to a 2-star film soon.

There Were No Charges Filed In The Death Of Todd Smith.
wandernn1-81-6832749 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Alright! A 2021 Horror 'Documentary' It just has to be GOOD, right???

Creepy Clown Sightings!!! Alright! This has to be good, right???

So these 'investigators' go around interviewing people on the street and then looking for creepy clowns. Sighting in the woods causes them to run. Pretty Dumb. -1 STar

Todd lost his wallet. That was a big talking point for a bit. Oh my. Then it's looking at footage of clowns. Clowns clowns Clowns.

So they go meet a creepy clown. Todd gets bopped and tied up. Then we get a mix of Jessica running from clowns, and Todd being tied up. Todd's tone changes dramatically once he sees the weapon. Then he's crying and begging the clown not to hurt his wife. Long scenes of Todd screaming. Finally brought to an end.

Then we have a long stretch of Jessica torture in the chair. Until she's knocked out. Then she wakes up in a bodybag. But gets out of that. There's a sign 'To Live: Keep Filming' Funny.

And then Jess escapes and finds Todd's Body in the car and thats the end. What a pile of felgercarb. -2 Stars

Begging for your life will never make the killer empathize with you.
bootsycox3 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I start? The two most unlikeable people in the world decided to make a movie. Think Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. They insert a couple of childish arguments about where their film is going and she ends up pregnant. She becomes obsessed with the clowns while he soils himself (sounds like someone we know). The clowns are not creepy at all and the "thrilling" conclusion is 20 minutes of the characters cussing and begging for their lives. What a big dirty diaper.

suzannebainbridge1 May 2022
Cleaning a public toilet would be scarier than this. Rubbish acting, rubbish plot and since I've made it to the 43min mark and giving up I can't guarantee it but I'm pretty sure it will be a rubbish ending.

There's lame, a level of muck, and this movie
skaggshaunt15 June 2022
We laughed our way through this realizing that the most drama involved was hoping someone would strip Todd naked and have him dance with the clowns back in the road. That...would have been a good movie.

Wasn't long before I was rooting for the clowns
OakieRF1 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Started ok. The footage in the first five minutes before the couple took over was better than everything after, unfortunately. Couple was ok for the first five or ten minutes when they took over, then it kept sliding downward. Constantly repeating the same basics about their clown agenda into their camera, got very repetitive. Kept thinking to myself throughout the movie, they have a nice house, but doesn't either of them work? They have all this time to drive around looking for clowns. One of their mothers even gave them money to buy a second camera. How do they afford where they live lol? Anyway, they drive out to interview a girl who saw clowns who AGREED to be interviewed.....then she ends the interview in under a minute after agreeing to the interview lol. I get they were trying to show 'fear' in an interviewee but really, then WHY AGREE TO THE INTERVIEW at all, right? Same with the 'evil clown expert' they interview -- he's a historian and expert who's studied evil clowns for YEARS, agrees to the interview -- then he ends the interview within two minutes because he's being asked questions about clowns and it freaks him out? LOL...WHAT??? You AGREED to be interviewed and this is your area of expertise!.....this comes across like stupid screen filler. Then the couple drive to the middle of nowhere at night to 'film and/or interview' clowns based on a tip. Ok, first one's just juggling glow sticks in the road so they guy approaches with his camera. Fair. Second one walks across the road into the brush holding a BASEBALL BAT, so guy with camera does what all horror movie idiots do - follows him. Um, BASEBALL BAT, dude. Gets cross checked by the bat and the clown holds him down on the ground and chokes him. Husband manages to escape and the couple drive onto the main road as another clown pulls a machete out from behind his back that they see as they drive off. So, what would a normal person think? Bad enough you drive into the middle of nowhere to see 'evil clowns' in a random deserted stretch of road and think 'sure, that'll be ok', but after all that, a normal person would say 'hey, they're dangerous', right? Weeellll.....guy at least thinks so and installs cameras around their house since he lost his wallet tangling with the one clown. His wife - beyond any logic - says he's probably going too far and they weren't dangerous (???? WFT????). Your husband was assaulted by one and another one had a big cleaver. Later, they get into a big argument about the husband's choice of a new location to search because the wife keeps beating on 'they have no proof' even though people have claimed to see clowns there, but "there's no pictures". So then they get a bunch of emails saying the same thing (we saw clowns there) and now she's gung ho to go film because of....what? There's STILL NO PROOF, same information the husband already had but now it's ok?. A few of the emails mention having a picture as proof, but they didn't see any before driving out there.....and after 27 emails, even without a picture, wouldn't that be enough to go out and check it out? Lol......just felt like a non-sensical manufactured tension / argument point to extend the movie run time and nothing else. By the end, the couple go out into a different creepy wooded area to 'interview' a clown that agreed to be interviewed.....in the middle of the night.....because, sure, that's totally safe. Of course it's not, and frankly by that point I was rooting for the clowns because people who make choices that stupid repeatedly earned what they get. Two stars for the first five minutes and the clowns in general - always have a creep factor if presented right. No stars for unlikeable characters that keep making illogical choices.

Evil Clown!
raben-8114617 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Like the CGI circus movie Animal Crackers this movie was also delayed fom 2017. Long before COVID there was a plague of murder clowns around the World in the autumn months. A pair is out to solve the mystery, but it goes wrong. Not the biggest movie event this year, but good for a 1 hour of clown scares in classic handheld style for streaming.

Potential Wasted

MY REVIEW OF BEHIND THE SIGHTINGS...

Everyone I've seen discussing the movie, Behind the Sightings, has hated it ever since it came out. But, being me, I like to make up my own mind, so I watched it today, and honestly, I think the movie is full of a lot of great elements. There's a lot of funny stuff, stupid character choices by Todd, specifically, but overall I find it pretty entertaining.

I went in not expecting much, which helps. So it starts out okay, but then it all turns to crap.

The clowns remind me a bit of the ones from Hell House, LLC... some cross-over would be kinda cool maybe for a future movie...

I think the problem I have is that you would think they'd go into this backwoods and dangerous place at night at least armed. Characters who have so little awareness and intelligence make for a pretty dumb movie, and I am sure this is a big part of why so many hated the movie. It feels like they didn't really spend time to write a good script.

One of the reasons ALIEN is such a classic is because Sigourney Weaver's character is so intelligent and supports a smart script where people do their best to figure things out and survive, which is entirely missing from most found footage films and I think it'd be nice to change that.

No sane person with a wife that hot would have brought her out into the middle of the woods to chase clowns, completely unarmed.

This goes so far beyond suspension of disbelief as to warrant the hate it gets.

So, from the humor and aesthetic, this movie clearly has A LOT of potential, but it wound up just absolutely sucking because the script is just so bad.

What a waste.

My score: 2/10.

Watch With Someone Who Is Afraid of Clowns
jackiejordan-1157012 October 2021
Behind The Sightings is a mockumentary found footage horror movie. It is a lower budget indie film but is higher quality than most which makes it worth the watch. It was filmed in 2017 than for some reason didn't come out until 2021. Alot of people gave it mixed reviews because I think they were mad that they waited so long. The movie goes by quick and is entertaining. It's one of those films you want to watch with someone who is afraid of clowns.

I'VE WAITED 3 OR MORE YEARS TO WATCH!!!
leidilat4 November 2021
More than anything people fear the unknown... I think the opening scenes showed not only too many clowns, but showed to early how dangerous and violent they were going to get.

It wasn't bad for a low budget found footage film. There were a couple of eerie moments and I definitely enjoyed watching it!!! As a huge horror and found footage fan I wish more than anything I had the money and equipment to shoot my own movie about the creepy clown sightings.

It could have been so much better!
RomeoVonFrankenstein29 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I had such high hopes after the beginning, which was great! But, sadly the rest if the film did not live up to its promise. I gave it 4 stars because the acting was good and believable. It just wasn't a great film.

*Spoiler Alert* No one, not even a journalist, would follow someone dressed as a clown carrying a baseball bat into dark woods they've never been before. And, if I felt like someone was trying to kill me at a spot where "sightings" happened, I'd be a lot more careful when going to other locations of "sightings." The stupidity of the supposed film makers basically killed it for me. The footage from the convenience store was awesome though.

Good Scares But Below Average
vengeance205 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, I got around to watching this after hearing about it online. I was intrigued by this & so went to watch, what I got was disappointment.

The films sees a couple making a documentary about clown pranksters & how theyre getting out of control & killing people. But find that curiousity can kill...

I found the film to be below average. Its nothing special to be honest & pretty mundane. I mean, theres some ok scares but nothing youve seen before. The little part about race was completely unneeded & couldve been left out. But its a 2021 film... rolls eyes.

The runtime isnt bad & at a lean 80 minutes, 1 hour 20 minutes, its not bad there. Theres some eye candy & a bit of gore, but its no enough to salvage this film.

Overall, it's a below average ff film. Its got some good things but very little to save this film. Its not the greatest.

3/10.

Could have been more
bishopragz1 August 2022
I can see what they were trying to get at with a kind of "The Houses October Built" vibe, but it got lost after the 1st encounter 20 minutes in. Funny in some places, but more time and a better idea of where this was going would have made this pretty good.
