- A super-powered construction worker falls in with a group of criminals in order to raise the funds to help his ill mother.
- In a world where people with "special" abilities are living in poverty, Conner Reed (Robbie Amell) is a powerful young man who is struggling to pay for his ailing mother's medical treatment. To earn money, he joins a lucrative criminal world led by Garrett (Stephen Amell), who works for a drug lord (Greg Bryk).
- In the near future a special city is built of people with special powers called "powers" (kind of like mutants). Although they are initially popular in the workforce, as the Third Industrial Revolution begins, Powers are marginalized. A crime syndicate known as The Trust has flooded the streets with an addictive drug called Psyke, made from the spinal fluid of trafficked Powers. The Powers have no other sources of income and are easy targets for The Trust. This results in the government passing a law requiring all Powers to register their abilities. Police departments begin using drone-deployed robots, called Guardians, and facial recognition software to combat Power-related crime while a citywide Powers ban is debated.
Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), as his mother Mary (Kari Matchett) is dying, is desperate for money, more specifically, medical access. Reed is an "electric" which means electric currents don't hurt him, while his mother is a Cryo (Cryokinetic), whose ailment impedes her from controlling her powers. Connor picks any odd jobs he can find to keep paying the bills but is falling behind fast. Meanwhile, the police use drones to identify and apprehend unregistered Powers. Officers Park and Davis lead one such unit hunting Powers that are selling their spinal fluid to The Trust. All the spinal fluid confiscated is burned by the Police in the incinerator once a month.
Connor is approached by Garrett (Stephen Amell), Marcus's underling and a TK (Telekinetic), and his crew for a job. The job turns out to be a robbery. Connor is introduced to Marcus Sutcliffe (Greg Bryk) and meets Nia (Kyla Kane), Marcus's apparent girlfriend. Sutcliffe owes money to bigger mafia lord Wesley and needs to make urgent payments. It was Marcus's Psyke farm that was raided a few days ago by cops, and he lost his entire inventory. Wesley refuses to give any leeway and demands payments in a week. Marcus plans something big, and needs Connor, but Garrett wants more time to train Connor, saying that even Connor doesn't know how powerful he is. Garrett uses Connor to cut through electric fences and stuff like that. Small jobs are completed without a hitch. Meanwhile, Nia (Kyla Kane), who exclusively serves Marcus, is a Healer and someone who can save Reed's mother.
Park (Sung Kang) and Davis (Aaron Abrams) arrive at the robbery scene the next day and determine that Marcus is desperate for revenue. Garrett recruits Connor for more jobs while training him to maximize his abilities and agrees to help him earn enough money to get Mary's treatment. Garrett tells Connor that he is a class 5 Electric and not a Class 2 as he has been led to believe. Connor grows close with Garrett's crew - Freddie (Vlad Alexis), a mute Brawn (super strength), and Maddy (Laysla De Oliveira), a Pyro (Pyrokinesis).
Marcus has the crew rob a bank to pay back The Trust, but the vault contains only a tenth of the money they expected. Connor was promised a cut of $25,000 from the bank heist. The vault was supposed to have $500,000 but had only $50,000 and it was cleared at 4 PM the same day, before the heist. Drones reach the bank before the gang can exit, but Connor manages to knock them out with electric bursts. Wesley's (Peter Outerbridge) Shifter (Shape Shifter) assassin, Copperhead (Ess Hodlmose), attempts to kill Marcus for not honoring his debt, but Marcus's bodyguard Rhino, a Brawn with bulletproof skin, kills her. Nia reveals to Connor that she is a Healer, and only remains with Marcus to ease the effects of his Psyke addiction and pay off her imprisoned father's debt. When Nia heals someone, their injuries and diseases simply transfer to her body.
Mary's condition worsens, and the doctors tell Connor that they need to operate soon to save her. Park and Davis bring Connor in for questioning. Davis wants to plant evidence against Connor at his home and coerce Connor into snitching against Marcus and Garrett. Park wants to cut him loose due to lack of evidence. Connor is released. He goes to Garrett and suggests they rob the police confiscated Psyke transport, which will make them $10 million. Garrett and Connor bring the idea to Marcus, where Connor demands Nia heal Mary as payment. Garrett wants a 50-50 split with Marcus.
On the day of the heist, the crew blocks the transport inside a no-fly zone, preventing backup by drones carrying Guardians. Although Garrett's crew manages to retrieve the Psyke non-lethally, Marcus's men execute police officers and betray Garrett and his crew by taking away the Psyke. Marcus's men kill Maddy and fatally wound Freddie. Rhino flees with the drugs. Connor tells Garrett that Marcus framed them because of Garrett's demands, and they part ways.
Connor contacts Park and offers up Marcus's hideout. The cops raid Marcus's hideout while Connor and Garrett fight and kill both Rhino and Marcus. Garrett takes the Psyke and encourages Connor to get Nia. Nia pleads with Connor to let her go, as her abilities force her to take the injury or disease onto herself. Connor takes Nia to the hospital at gunpoint to cure his mother but changes his mind when he sees that curing Mary will kill Nia. Mary passes away soon after.
Connor gives Nia his truck in order to leave the city, while Garrett hands over the Psyke to Wesley and takes over the drug trade for The Trust in Lincoln City. Connor visits his mother's grave before he goes on the run, while Nia has a tearful visit with her father. Meanwhile, the Powers Ban is being voted on while Park reluctantly accepts an award.
