Seemed to have missing elements
vitamutatio25 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This would have been a much more believable situation if they'd used the 'estranged twin' or 'lookalike stranger' approach rather than the nanny. It would have made Nomi's job that much harder and perhaps Jane would have been more easily convinced.

When Nomi encounters Mark and Greta for the first time, her eyes seem to fall on her wedding ring now on Greta's finger, a deliberate act given how Greta placed her hand on Mark, but I also wonder if Greta is wearing Nomi's cocktail dress since from that point on in the movie, Greta gets a noticeable wardrobe upgrade. Nomi's reaction seemed a bit tame for that type of scenario.

In the police station, the fact that the detective uses an easily faked social media page as defacto proof of identity is pretty lame, not to mention that they can't tell the driver's license in Nomi's possession is fake. Also, when being served with a restraining order, like any other court document, the recipient has to admit that they are the person named on the document or be identifiable by another acceptable means. Nomi is there filing a claim for identity theft. For most police, wouldn't that raise doubt as to whether the restraining order is enforceable? The escape from the psychiatric hospital was ludicrous. Hospitals are designed to be occupied during a fire emergency and usually run on a two-alarm system. The first notifies staff of a potential emergency and patient room doors are closed by staff and fire doors automatically close. The staff doesn't run around in a panic chasing patients and losing track of them as the spill out into the parking lot. Also, as Nomi and Oscar leave through a back entrance, we notice that it's fenced, even on the top for security yet the gate is unlocked.

Oh...the rental car. It wouldn't have taken a lot of effort to track down the person that rented the car to Greta or the surveillance tapes.

The police officer that responded to Jane's 911 call must be very fragile since Greta running past her and pushing her into the car renders her unconscious for an extended period of time. In my opinion, something that is overused in cinema. Most healthy people regain consciousness in seconds, not hours unless it's drug-induced.

It was entertaining, but could have filled in the holes a little better. It makes me wonder what ended up on the cutting room floor.

So implausible Warning: Spoilers
She tells the police to have a DNA test to prove who she is and that the children are hers and they just laugh in her face. In what universe does this happen?! Only in the Lifetime Movie universe lol.

I'm giving it a 5 because the lead actress is good, but the whole plot is so absurd and too ridiculous to take seriously.

This woman doesn't even have dental records to prove her identity? Fingerprints? Records from the hospital when she gave birth to her 2 kids? All this would exist to prove who she is in 2 seconds!

An Underrated Actress
dariuslanghoff13 August 2017
As it happens to be a TV movie, one should not be too stern when assessing. Surely, there is plenty of illogical "logic" in the rather improbable story. The motivation of the antagonists successfully eludes my capability of detection.

What makes WOTR worthwhile for me after all, is the presence of Sarah Butler. An accomplished actress, imbued with stamina and character - let alone her stunning beauty - who is ignored by major producers and filmmakers. Why? I truly do not know.

Therefore it is pity the only significant motion picture she appeared in is the remake of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. Here she proved how refined her thespian skills are - her intonation and enunciation especially. But, the thing is, ISOYG is a film per se unwatchable for many.

To sum up, I hope things will change and Sarah Butler will be better spotted and garner more attention. Looking forward to A movies starring this promising talented actress.

She's a Mystery Writer - this film though is a comedy of errors and a waste of time
Ed-Shullivan5 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
You have a nut case for a nanny, she is a blonde bimbo named Greta March (Lindsay Maxwell) who is sleeping with the mystery writers useless husband named Mark Gardner (Jim Thorburn) and both of these greedy lovers are plotting to kill mystery writer Nomi Gardner (Sarah Butler) to cash in on a secret 1.5 million dollar estate Nomi was given via a will by her deceased overseas cousin, and to also take away Nomi's two children by stealing Nomi's identity by switching identities with the nanny Greta March.

There are two other characters in this convoluted crapper named Oscar (Matthew MacCaull) who is the hotel bellboy and Nomi's knight in dull armor, and the two conspirator's henchmen is a guy named Lyle (Josh Byer). Lyle reminds me of the manufactured robot from 1939's Frankenstein, he is dumber than a stump and just takes orders from whomever is directly in front of him.

If you do choose to watch this made for TV so-called thriller/mystery where the innocent mother/mystery writer Nomi Gardner is being set up to be murdered and have her identity stolen by their bimbo nanny Greta March and her cheating husband Mark so that they can benefit from their victim's Nomi's inheritance, it won't take you very long to realize that this film is so ridiculous that even a bad dream would be more believable. I won't provide any insight or spoiler to the film's outcome because in this case, any ending would have stunk.

In this case the saying "snooze you lose" would mean you came out a winner by what you did NOT miss.

I give this boring film a 2 out of 10 rating.

Woman on the Run
hollylyle22 April 2017
I am in the process of watching this movie and I can NOT get past the fact that this woman has absolutely NO childhood, high school college, neighborhood friends, distant cousins, old church members, old boyfriends, cashiers at a store....ANYONE who can vouch for her true identity. Can anyone just show them an old yearbook? Yes, she found her old college professor who is coming in town to tell the detectives her true identity and this is her only hope. Bless your heart, Lifetime, these unbelievable plot lines are just outrageous. But we still watch. :)

Good film
rheashah-4993718 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this movie. A very interesting and original lifetime film. Just think of how crazy it is; you are attacked, and the next thing you know, someone else is pretending to be you and no one believes you. Plus they managed to hack all her photos and ID and replace her name. What a mess! I don't understand why she would not get a done a DNA test or have the kids vouch for her.

What a screwed up script
casablancavic6 May 2022
Sarah Butler is a fantastic actress and the others in the film are as well, but the story is just horribly stupid on too many levels.

The writers were just pumping out anything for a story, regardless how much sense or logic it actually has.

Also, because it was filmed in and around Vancouver, where they moved to should be called Vancouver and then her troubles would be slightly more believable due to the verification of her ID.

Having to cross borders and losing your ID and replacing it is difficult, but even then, there would most likely be a record of it at the border crossing.

Being in the US, as a US citizen, verifying her self is much easier - and especially with drivers licenses, banks, and a variety of other means.

The implausibility on this movie is just far too high - and that's what the writers must have been when they were composing this story...high or drunk or just totally bad at their jobs.

Once again - Sarah Butler good...story bad.

If it didn't have Sarah in it, I would have easily bypassed this for something much more entertaining.

If you want to watch this, leave your brain outside the door and then take a seat and gaze into the screen like the sheep you are.

Anyone with a brain that actually uses it will find this movie totally ridiculous - but I guess that not so smart people need to be entertained too - and this is the ideal movie for them.

This movie kept my attention from start to finish. Good plot. I doubt that any real Lifetime movie watchers will regret this one.

A real waste of an idea with real potential. You could drive a semi through the plot holes in this movie. Very disappointing.

Great Twist if you see it!
icarrillo-539474 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Typical Lifetime movie but with a twist that most people did not see or get. I had to rewind it for my wife as during the whole movie I already knew this cannot be real (even for a lifetime movie) this sounds more like a book. If you find yourself not happy with the ending just rewind it to the start of the movie and read the final touches to the book she finished then remember the ending!

Intriguing
tomfsloan1 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A Woman on the Run had a pretty good premise and moved along fairly well. I could picture myself thinking, "What would I do?" in a situation like that. But there were quite a few stupid happenings. Like did Naomi have NO friends who could vouch for her? Her one "friend" Ben got his comeuppance. Her only other friend/witness was Oscar, and she left him! Later he shows up in the nick of time. That escape was fairly easy. Whew! She's a famous author and lived in suburbia. She didn't know anyone? The goon, Lyle, was an inept jerk. I guess that's right along par for the bad couple who hired him. But you know what, if it was all too logical, it would have been a boring movie.

Embarrassing performances
geoffox-766-41846720 December 2018
First of all, is this a comedy or drama? Confusing. Watching this, their are so many loopholes and plain silly plot lines. Here is a woman, not bad performance, trying to disguise herself, by adding a baseball cap and that is it. Allowing her long flowing hair to hang in front as usual. So, what's the disguise? Then she has a hoodie again with her long locks hanging outside the hood. Any fool would recognize her anywhere. Then there's the faxct she can beat up a brute with the twist of the foot in his privates. Usual LMN way of defeating a man. I always have said what if a guy kicks the woman in her privates? Has this ever been done on LMN? But then I am getting trivial. There is no surprise here and acting is fair given the material they have to work with. I give it 3 stars for attempt to make this believable.

Flawed from Beginning to End
markdefaziomusic28 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I lasted 19 minutes before my brain could not take anymore. First of all, does Jim Thorburn always play a snob? He had the same aloof personality in The Tree That Saved Christmas. Besides that, this is such an idiotic premise. Who wrote this?? When she goes to the police she says she knows no one and that she is a hermit. What about the neighbor she said bye to when they were leaving on the trip?? She was a published writer that even one of the bellboys knew, so she must have a publisher that she has seen face-to-face. Do these filmmakers think we are stupid? Between Johnson Production Group and Incendo, they are making a fortune out of making rubbish for the brainless. One final word....if you are determined to make garbage movies, at least hire people that can act.

A Great LIFETIME Movie
kupcr9 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say regarding this movie directed by Jason Bourque, that I thoroughly enjoyed its energy and plot line, another well-acted film starring the 'I Spit On Your Grave' actress Sarah Butler, who gives such an amazing performance here as Nomi Gardner, a woman who's identity is stolen by her psychotic nanny, Greta (Lindsay Maxwell). Nomi is a regular housewife and has it all, until there's an attempt on her life and the action starts. She will do anything to get her children back. Such a great performance by Jerry Wasserman and supporting actress Karen Holness. There's only a couple of murders in this movie and there is a part where we thought the real Nomi would never get her children back, until the surprise scene near the end. I recommend this movie strictly for actress Butler if you like her films, which I do, and if you like movies with a strong heroine who wins in the end against the enemy and still keeps her composure, then this is the movie for you. It ends well, that's all I'm gonna say.

"My Name is Nomi Gardner, and I Want my Babies!!!"
lavatch21 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In this cleverly plotted film, Nomi Gardner is a mystery writer who has lived the life of a recluse. Even her photograph does not appear on her most recent thriller called "Shattered." That title is an appropriate one for what happens to Nomi in an extreme case of identity theft: she is on the run to recover her life and be reunited with her two babies.

Nomi's husband Mark and the nanny named Greta March have planned an elaborate charade to switch Nomi's identity with Greta's. Unknown to Nomi, Mark has discovered that Nomi is to receive a $5 million inheritance, and he ingeniously turns the tables on his wife while working in cahoots with Greta.

The dastardly plan of Mark and Greta includes murder. But the quick-thinking Nomi uses her acumen from writing the mysteries in order to survive. Indeed, she is in a race for her life as she tries to evade the hired thug retained by Mark while concurrently attempting to prove that she is the real Nomi Gardner.

My favorite character in the film is Oscar, a hotel employee who believes Nomi's story and becomes her aide in recovering her identity. An outrageous scene plays out in a state-run psychiatric institution where Nomi has been placed and is about to receive shock treatment for being delusional and for stabbing with a pen the creepy shrink who has been assigned to her case. Oscar disguises himself as an orderly to assist her escape from the nut house.

The filmmakers keep the tone light, and, despite the potential endangerment to the two little children, the character of the real Greta March is portrayed as a loving surrogate parent. Still, the film belongs to Nomi, who carries the weight of the main theme on her broad shoulders: there is nothing that can stop a mother's desire to be reunited with her beloved babies.

Losing your identity is more easy than you think.
cosmoastro17 September 2017
First, Sarah Butler is the main character. If you like watching Sarah run, fight and hide, you would like this movie. The story is well told. And the premise is… If nobody knows you. How could you probe your identity? The society also tends to choose who you are. Who is the good or the bad girl. Would you use questionable methods to find the truth? I didn't like much some action scenes, for moments I supposed to watch a very low budget movie. But the movie survive with a brave mom and a surprising little girl. Give it a chance. Enjoy thinking haven lost your identity. What would be like, if only the people you know is against you, and you're lonely crying for help?
