- TriviaFranz Drameh (Jax) gets to use his natural British accent while undercover in this episode.
- GoofsThe Apollo missions did not use space shuttles. The vessel consisted of a Command Module, which is what the astronauts travel to the moon and back in, also is used for re-entry, and a Lunar Module which is a two man craft used to land on the surface of the moon. They were launched into orbit using a Saturn V three-stage rocket.
- Quotes
Rip Hunter: The Waverider has sustained major damage, Dr. Palmer. Same for the Jumpship.
Ray Palmer: Wait, the Jumpship... That means...
Sara Lance: Unless you can figure out a way to launch the LEM... You're stranded on the moon.
Ray Palmer: And now I know how Matt Damon felt.

It's not uncommon for Legends to vary in quality from week to week. In fact, since its inception, I can't remember the show ever having really good back to back episodes. It's more likely to be the opposite. I was highly critical of last week's adventure, but I think this episode did a far better job of juggling tone, among other things.
Since we finally finished the side arc for Rip, it seems like we can expect it to be Legion of Doom focused from here on out. 'Moonshot' only featured Thawne, and without his speed as well. So where it once again lacked in the antagonist department, it succeeded in making the most out of a trip to the moon. This is where this season has surpassed season 1, the unrealistically fun adventures. Commander Steel hid part of the spear of destiny in the flag on the moon? That's brilliantly ridiculous storytelling.
What followed was a combination of a tribute to the film Apollo 13 (along with the miraculous real-life events) and 2015's The Martian. The Legends were stuck with trying to save Ray & Thawne from a shuttle traveling to earth at a deadly rate. So, was Thawne even used as an antagonist at all in this episode? Nope. In fact, he actually teamed up with Ray to make the trip home safely. The CW is lucky that no one takes this show seriously, because there's so many missed opportunities.
With the return of Commander Steel, we got some touching moments between Henry and Nate. The former was forced to come to grips with not being able to see his son (Nate's father) ever again. I don't usually, but I found this to be emotionally resonant. Hopefully this will put Nate in a more driven place for the rest of the season. Let's forget about that Amaya romance and focus on taking down the Legion, right? The last thing worth noting is that Rip has acknowledged how out of place he is on this team now that he's not captain. This can either go one of two ways; one having Rip quit the team by season's end and be sent off on travels elsewhere, or two, they make the really dumb decision by having Sara step down and give the power back to Rip. I think you know how I would like things to pan out.
+Hey look it's one fourth of the Legion
+Fun, ridiculous adventure
-Let's get the full Legion team out in the open
7.5/10
