Bad all that bad for a fan movie...
paul_haakonsen12 May 2021
Sure, I will admit that I was lured in by this 2019 movie's cover, as it was something unique and actually looked rather interesting. Had I heard about this 2019 movie prior to watching it in 2021? No. Would it have made a difference if I had? No. I like to watch movies that I haven't already seen, and as I was given the chance to sit down to watch "Monster Force Zero", of course I did so.

And while "Monster Force Zero" wasn't exactly a blockbuster movie with a budget high enough to sustain a small country for a handful of years, then it was actually a movie that was made by people that were committed to making a movie, and it was something that felt like it was a fun project to be part of.

However, I have to say that the storyline in "Monster Force Zero" was just a bit too bland and mundane for my liking. Sure, I managed to sit through the entire movie, but I was only mildly entertained by what transpired on the screen, I can't really claim to have been overly impressed with what writers Tyson Kroening, Nathan Letteer and Michele Pacitto came up with.

The acting in the movie was adequate enough, taking into consideration the type of movie this was. And again, I will say that it definitely felt like the people involved in acting in the movie had fun doing so and being part of the movie. Dalena Nguyen, playing Kadabra Couture, totally stole the light here in the movie with her performance, and of course she also had the most interesting of characters to portray, so that helped.

Visually then "Monster Force Zero" wasn't all that bad. Sure, this is not a CGI extravaganza that will blow you again, but the special effects and CGI were actually functioning well enough for their purposes. And I will say that the effects in the movie definitely had a charm to it - that unique low budget charm - but it actually worked in favor of the movie here.

I do believe that a movie such as "Monster Force Zero" is bound to gain a large following, especially because it is nerdy and geeky enough to be pleasing to a certain group of sci-fi aficionados out there.

My rating of director Nathan Letteer's 2019 sci-fi movie lands on a four out of ten stars. It wasn't an overly bad movie, I just didn't find much of any entertainment in the storyline.

Why do they make this nonsense? How does this nonsense seem to make it to production? Who pays for this nonsense? Please stop!

Warning: Spoilers
A group of losers at a Comic-Con event get sucked into a competition where they have to save the earth from aliens who were once ancient astronauts.

The film incorporates the idea all civilization was created by aliens and not stupid humans. Toss in the Grays, reptiles, Unaki and hot cosplay chicks in a totally stupid plot. I found it silly and not amusing.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Laughable

So this is a horrible movie. However, you will laugh and say things like "WTH am I watching" , "What did I just watch", "Please someone invalidate this movie".

I am more than 40 mins into this movie and it does not get any better. If you are into Furries then this movie is for you and all the stupid that goes with it.

Hyper-realizes LARP
JonjaNet25 March 2021
Fun, hyper realized LARP. Every cosplayers dream realized, à la "The Last Starfighter", with a AMC Pacer instead of a gunship and more entertaining.

Appeared to be made with love for the conventions, the cosplayers, and the geek community as a whole.

1980 quality Sci Fi
arnrae162 April 2021
Woooah! You talking about awful..This is that! I was 50 minutes into this movie and still didn't understand more than I read off WiKi plot summary. The cinematography is is made with camera from 1980s or home cam recorder . Half of characters don't make any sense or have a purpose in the movie. Finally I seen better acting in Tik Tok videos.

Hugely enjoyable multiverse madness
misbegotten18 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie's storyline has a group of friends trying to promote their self-published comic book by cosplaying as their own characters on the comic con circuit (the film was partly shot at a genuine con, GalaxyFest in Colorado). They get challenged to take part in a cosplaying contest by reigning champions the Destroyers of Destruction, only for both teams to discover that the contest is actually a LAST STARFIGHTER-style process being held by benevolent aliens to find warriors capable of saving the universe. Thus, Monster Force Zero are granted their characters' actual superpowers and weaponry: A. I. (Adam Singer) gets goggles that shoot energy beams; Kadabra (Dalena Nguyen) receives telekinetic abilities so strong she can levitate and teleport; and Ammo (Aeon Cruz) is given an energy-infused baseball bat and a BFG. They need an extra member to compete against the four-strong Destroyers, so they recruit a random stranger in a yeti costume (Shale Le Page) whom Ammo dubs 'Boots' due to the LCD-equipped moonboots he's wearing. And in case you're wondering why aliens are entrusting the fate of the universe to a bunch of cosplayers, it's neatly explained in a surprise twist three-quarters of the way through the film.

This movie was clearly made by sci-fi and comic book fans and self-confessed geeks for other sci-fi and comic book fans and self-confessed geeks, and accordingly I enjoyed it immensely. I particularly admired the fact it also addresses the negative side of fandom, in the form of the Destroyers of Destruction, a physical, in-the-flesh representation of every on-line troll and hater who's ever launched a rabid boycott campaign against a not-yet-broadcast TV show or movie that's still in pre-production simply because they disagree with a single casting, or who has ever obsessively flamed anyone who's dared to express an opinion that differs from their's. The filmmakers even use the Destroyers to subtly target the toxic masculinity often displayed by such trolls (as evidenced by the notorious on-line reaction to the all-female GHOSTBUSTERS remake and the CW's lesbian-led BATWOMAN series): the team consists of macho alpha male-wannabes Gunns Lazer (Heath C. Heine) whose costume appears based on Flash Gordon as played by Sam Jones, the ASSASSIN'S CREED-inspired Quiplash (Omid Harrison), and atypical opponent in a fighting game Final Boss (Dmitri Raskes), plus token female/generic supervillainess Hot Babe (Cali June) - imagine a Killer Frost who generates heat & fire instead of cold & ice. It's quietly implied that the male Destroyers only recruited Hot Babe because they didn't think they stood a chance of winning any contests without an attractive young woman in a sexy outfit on board, and consider her to be 'just a girl' - there's a poignant running joke in which she's always left out of their group high-fives, and her attempts to gain superpowers are repeatedly sabotaged by the other Destroyers selfishly grabbing them for themselves.

In addition to the Destroyers, the movie boasts some enjoyable, fun villains called The Unidentified, an organization lead by a female mad scientist called Dr. Eeche, equipped with a hench-Bigfoot named Squatch and an alien T-Rex from another dimension that can fire laser beams from it's eyes (the standard of special effects is very impressive for a film of such a low budget - it was partly crowdfunded). It's all totally, gleefully, unapologetically bonkers, but very much in a good way. Special mention to Aeon Cruz, who has such natural screen presence that she steals scenes even when just standing to one side, listening to another character talking.

I'm a big fan of the superteam movies in The Asylum's 'Looking Glass' universe (at the time of writing, two AVENGERS GRIMM films and SINISTER SQUAD), but considering that every studio and production company is currently trying like crazy to create their own interconnected movie universes, The Asylum seem positively resistant to the idea, and there's been no new 'Looking Glass' entries since 2018. MONSTER FORCE ZERO is the next best thing, a more-than-capable substitute, and I hope we get to see the sequel hinted at in it's final scene.

A fan movie, and lots of fun
wrturneriii25 April 2021
There's a long tradition of SF and comics fan movies, and this is a good example in both senses - in a way typical, and in another way one of the better efforts. Filmed in part at an actual comic con with amateur cosplayers, Monster Force Zero is a group of friends who attend in costume to promote their new comic, Monster Force Zero. It's not a spoiler to reveal that aliens select them to be given real powers based on their costumes and send them off to save the galaxy. Although the budget is low, the cast and crew are quite inventive in making the most of it. There's a lot of charm and fun. This movie should be a staple at comic cons for years to come. I strongly recommend seeing it with friends; it's the kind of movie that is greatly enhanced by the group enjoying it together.

Bad train wreck
jpnavin-15 April 2021
This is something you would see come from a film and drama class in a tech high achool, and I think they would of done better honestly. This movie was neither fun or interesting, bad acting, bad effects, and cosplay costumes they got out of a dumpster next to a real comcon.

The poster is the best part.
The movie cover art is the best part of this movie. Looks like a student indie film at best.

So Bad
drjest11 May 2021
I'm a fan of "so bad they're good" movies. This isn't one of those. It's just bad. Terrible story. Unlikable characters. It was a chore to get through, but I did.

I love to watch bad films on MST3K and RiffTrax. Perhaps they could salvage something from this.

So bad its good
luke-946-13322814 October 2020
I almost bailed in the first 20 minutes but something about it made me stick it out, by 30 minutes i was addicted. Through creative use of lighting, minimal special effects and some dedicated cosplayers they have made a really fun to watch B-movie.

Hey lizard, this b*tch wants pancakes!!

Monster Force Zero is a fun and ambitious film about a group of cosplayers who use their newfound super powers to fight off evil. If you're looking for an eclectic group of characters to spend some time with, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better entry than this. Strap in and enjoy the ride!

The next midnight movie has arrived
pulpneon21 October 2020
This film IS NOT the polished Marvel movies we've all grown accustomed to. It looks like they shot at a real convention and all the actors look like they were having a good time... almost like they were in on some kind of joke. I'm looking forward to seeing this on the big screen at a midnight movie. I hope there will be beer. Enjoy.

I was an extra in this film and really enjoyed the filming. So I was not surprised to see how fun the film came out. Films like this are needed today because I completely forgot the world today watching this. Truly enjoyed working and watching this film.

Great Sci-Fi Retro fun
strangerathome21 October 2020
This movie was a lot of fun. Not a huge budget, but the creators of Monster Force Zero have a love for film, and the genre. It feels like an ensemble comic-book sci-fi film from 1986, from the colorful effects and camera angles, to the synth score that accompanies it. Some of the acting is questionable, and the plot is a bit silly, but the story keeps moving and the unexpected characters keep it fresh and fun. Recommended for fans of the genre, and fans of cosplay and convention stories.

Great movie
emilympark14 October 2020
As an indie, Monster Force Zero provides great use of terrors, aspirations and (non pandemic) issues of the times. Thru a sci fi thriller genre lense, Monster Force Zero metaphorically speaks to technology, our identities as well as the human condition.

For an indie it's a must see from the viewpoint of a critical eye seeking light entertainment.

A goofy, cheesy independent movie.
livtown8 November 2020
We personally loved the film! Between the CGI dinosaurs to the yeti, we genuinely enjoyed it. Its got a good mix of action with plot. Truly something you might wanna give a few minutes for as if you don't follow the whole story, you could get lost.
