Gore-mungous, Hammer-tastic Female Revenge Thriller - So Sweet!
omendata26 March 2019
Some other reviewer mentioned that the acting was shocking. well not really most of the cast were not that great but Corbin and in particular Oksana Orlan made the movie for me - she was rather sexy and a real tough ass kicker and her acting was far and away superb in my opinion - she made the movie for me. Stellar performance Oksana Orlan don't let the critics get you down.

So many critics these days cannot just sit and watch a movie without digging out plot holes and other inconsequential drivel - its a HORROR movie, they are not known for their literary masterpiece or amazing plots or acting - I go to watch and leave this world behind and become immersed in what is on the screen, not sitting nit picking every little detail, how accurate the historical details are - oh man those people bore the hell out of me, a bit like Mark Kermode and his dissection of a movie into its minutae and that would be fair if the movie was a great epic but folks this is a tongue in cheek horror / thriller and you get what is on the tin so save the literary criticism for War & Peace and let ordinary folks just enjoy the film. I guess some people have lost the inner child and have become old before their time - I can still sit and watch Doctor Who from the 1970's or Space 1999 and believe its not a rainy quarry in Newcastle on a wet Sunday afternoon but the Sontaran homeworld and I am over 50 and that is what a lot of people seemingly cannot do these days - I pity them, what a bore life must be for you!

I digress, well the story has been done many times before notably with a French movie whose name eludes me for now and many copies thereafter and it does meander along for the first hour and then hits you with a pickaxe in the closing quarter with some kick-ass gore and violence and after all it is a horror/thriller and tongue in cheek it did finish with aplomb! Corbin is always a dab hand at the tongue in cheek horror as The Dentist he played rather well. Add in some cannibalism references and a bit of Frankenstein's monster and stir it all up and out comes a crazy hour and a half of female hammer wielding mayhem!

I was going to give it an average 5/10 but the last half hour gives it an extra star as it lifted what was seemingly a tame horror/thriller into the above average echelons of gore and female revenge!

6.5 Stars From Me
Foutainoflife30 April 2019
A woman along with her daughter, comes to the the US with the hopes of finding a better life by way of being a mail order bride. While the home is large and clearly indicates her intended is a man of means, there is a cold and ominous atmosphere to the place. Something just isn't right but can she find out what is going on before it is too late?

Just finished this up and in my opinion, this is a decent film. The story is a bit shaky but it wasn't so bad that it took away from the film. The actors are not folk I'm familiar with and maybe they were a bit lacking but it wasn't awful.

The film moves along at a slow but steady pace and the there is decent tension throughout the film. The camera, audio and wardrobe were all well suited and the home was great.

For a lower budget film, it worked for me. Don't go into it expecting all the questions will have an answer. Simply take it at face value and try not over analyze it.

Not well scripted

The dialogue was off. I think if it had been written better with these actors, then the movie would have rated higher.

What Have I Got Myself Into?
lavatch20 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
"The Russian Bride" depicts a kind single mom in Russia, who meets an older American man on the internet, leading eventually to marriage. Nina takes her daughter Dasha from Russia to the United States, where they move into an unpleasant, dilapidated mansion owned by the wealthy husband.

Karl Frederick, the Prussian-sounding name of the older gent, turns out to be a monster. When Nina learns a bit of his background, meets his sinister friends, and catches him snorting cocaine, it does not take long for her to begin asking herself, "What have I got myself into? And the audience of this film has to be asking the same question!

This strange, low-budget film was a combination of dark comedy, thriller, mystery, horror, film noir, and slasher films. There is a creepy character named Hagen, who was born without a tongue. He now lives in the cold barn and does odd jobs (like committing murder) for his boss Karl Frederick. He also has a collection of old reel-to-reel classic films like "Frankenstein" and "Nosferatu." But this film is not really like those classics. It is closer to "Friday the 13th."

Much of the film defied logic, especially in the treatment of the former wife of Karl Frederick. Apparently, he murdered her, and Nina eventually comes across her skeleton. But the ex-wife also appears in the flesh to little Dasha. Was she a ghost, or was the wife being held captive by the psychopathic husband?

While the filmmakers created a chilling atmosphere in the mansion and the exterior, there was still an amateurish feel to the film. It was remarkable that the actors could keep a straight face with some of the lines of dialogue and situations. Some credit should go to the film's director for the wild finale. Still, this was a lackluster film whose theme was apparent in the early scene where Nina decides to leave her home in Livny to take her chances on what appears to be a relationship that seems too good to be true. If it feels that way, most situations in life are indeed too good to be true.

It is what it is: fun and creepy

You can't expect a masterpiece with a title like this BUT you can suspend your 10 star attitude and have fun with it. It's great! Corbin is always someone to watch.

Not brilliant but not terrible either
mjsreg10 July 2019
OK, so this film won't win any awards - and some of the acting leaves a lot to be desired - and some of the story is unbelievable - and goodness knows how they spent an estimated $7,000,000 budget!

But all that doesn't make it a terrible movie to watch either.

After the first twenty minutes or so I was wondering if I should watch the rest - and I am glad I did. The same things apply and detract from the movie but the story gets going and it's almost possible to forget the negatives as the story reaches it's conclusion.

The story is a bit different and worth watching if you can forgive the niggles.

An interesting thriller with equally creepy, strong, and tender performances!
tdh_fbi24 February 2021
"The Russian Bride" may seem like some sort of generic Lifetime-style thriller/horror movie from the outside looking in. However, this movie contains a lot of strong performances from not only the three main leads, but the smaller supporting characters as well. Firstly, Corbin Bernsen does a stellar job as the coldly sociopathic Karl. Secondly, the performances by Oksana Orlan as mother Nina and young actress/model Kristina Pimenova as daughter Dasha are very well done, and the chemistry between the two of them makes their performances very believable. The role of Dasha made for a great start to young Ms. Pimenova's acting career, and I hope she continues acting whenever possible. Despite not being on screen nearly as much in this, in my opinion, she proved to me that she has the necessary talent and depth.

Adding to all this is the good writing, which allowed for just enough character development for the smaller supporting characters (especially the emotionally abused mute servant Hagen) for their performances to be passably believable as well.

My only regret is that I which Karl's backstory could've been explored a little bit more. Despite this, TRB is a really thrilling movie that is definitely worth watching.

Purposely bad
afariasduarte25 December 2020
I can't believe that director, writers and producers were satisfied with such a garbage. It is a shame and a waste of money. At least it must have guaranteed a good fee for those involved.

Don't mess with russians
kevxzara13 May 2019
Nina is as bad ass as a Russian women can be, takes a while to get going but boy when it gets going it really gets going. One thing that annoyed me is the presence of a spirit that really did not need to be in the movie at all. The ending to this movie is sped up to 10 its viscious and glorious.

Way better than I expected!
TerribleKatherine4 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was contemplating between 6 and 7; a 6,5/10 would be a correct score, so I gave the higher one. Here's why: 1.) The acting - solid. The main character, Nina, was a very sympathetic and everyone played their part well. 2.) The surroundings worked well and I felt the cinematography was above decent. Even when this movie felt like a low-budget film, it didn't look like that once. 3.) The plot was interesting, even though I didn't understand why they had to cram so many different things-- keep it either a ghost story or a relationship- thriller, don't throw everything in the mix. That is the reason why this movie cannot be above 7 ever, there was too much this and that. Also I wished the events leading to the climax were a it more clearer, there were some things that never got an answer. 4.) The social commentary was an important part of the movie; from mail order brides to black market organ dealing.

You know the plot
gustheaffen5 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Yep another too good to be true Russian bride goes to America to marry an Uber wealthy eccentric isolated older gentleman sight unseen and brings her daughter. What could go wrong, giant eye roll! Of course the situation has flashing warning signs all over and everyone is super weird and creepy as is his isolated mansion with power issues but she gleefully goes through with the marriage and chaos immediately ensues. Loved Corbin on Psych, he also makes a good diabolical villain although wasted here. The story was just lame and tried to save face by being overly violent. Predictable and boring. Really could care less about any of them since she too had her own money grubbing motives to be there. File this under save your time and skip it.

Not the movie I was expecting; it was more.
aporlando24 March 2019
Portrays an honest mother trying to get my, wanting to provide more for her daughter. A man who does what he wants to another with no remorse takes advantage of this woman and her daughter. What is astonishing is the extent others go through to enable this despicable man, I am speaking of his servants there in the home. Yet deep inside each know their role, and play it well. I would never boost an actor playing the role of a bad person because deep inside of me I realize there must be some of "that" character at home with others. Which is necessary to bring out and say because the female role played here shows a natural honesty of herself while around others outset this set. A good movie to learn from, not so easy to watch because most of us share something in common with either the servants, or Corbin Benson; a few of us are like the star of this film Oksana Orlan", and if you are like me then we must agree these numbers should increase.

Everyone wants to escape the realities, it is impossible to do alone. And we would not be in this predicament if we were around others who support us in the ways that matter. If we are willing to go along and turn our heads to wrong full things, then image what another over there is turning their head to.

Really, really, really bad
latinfineart20 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I do not know where to start with this movie. It had every stereotype imaginable. The script was vapid, unimaginative, and bordering on childish. Corbin could do better than this? Or maybe not. I realize it was meant to be a horror movie, but it failed at that too. It was not scary. What was the scariest part of the film, was how terrible it was. It always felt like a tiny production. Other than the house. I could not finish it. Feel badly about that hour I wasted, fast forwarding, trying to get to something substantial.

Never trust online dating !!!
saptesh7869 July 2019
A well thriller. A separated woman goes to marry a wealthy man at his home in America with her daughter after online dating. But later she realizes that he is not normal and behaving like psycho sometimes and has many suspense. When she realizes all the dark side of the castle then it is too late and she and her daughter have been totally trapped and no way to come out. That is the story. Starting portion of the movie is interesting and grip you to immerse into the story. Middle part is a little bit lengthy. But climax is very good, which you could not expect. This is the highlighted part of the movie. Acting by leading lady is well along with her daughter and her new hubby. Remarkable acting by both servants of wealthy man. Watchable for thriller lovers.

A very well made and played movie. Acting was superb. The story was coherent and gripping. There where some 1 and 2 ratings which I can not understand. It's one of these rare occasions where I really felt like not having wasted my time watching some hyped up garbage. Definitely worthwhile.

What if he changes too?
nogodnomasters5 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Nina (Oksana Orlan) has the habit of picking the wrong man. As a Russian bride, she manages to hook Karl (Corbin Bernsen) an aging American billionaire. Nina has a daughter, Dasha (Kristina Pimenova). Things quickly get weird as Karl is not the man she thought he was.

I liked the twist ending. This has been done a few times before, but for some reason I wasn't looking for it with everything else going on.

Guide: F-word. Brief sex and nudity (Corbin Bernsen). Gets bloody at the end.

mariababini12 May 2019
I felt like the director went out to his neighborhood and yelled "Hey, I'm gonna make a movie! Who wants to join??" 😂 Every actor except from Karl was empty of talent. And when the "bride" became the Schwarzenegger I started laughing and still can't stop 😂😂😂

Absolutely dreadful
R_Alex_Jenkins26 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Naturally, I'm not going to get a single like for this review due to the fake people-bots generating reviews on IMDB these days, but WOW, this was absolutely dreadful!

I'm still giving it two stars though because I did watch it all the way through in a jaw-dropping astonished kind of way and because of the unexpected 'comic' twist at the end, but my God, what a piece of utter trash.

Astonishingly bad acting by practically everyone. Maybe only the maid had some moderate talent, and the extremely amateurish directing and production was inexplicable too. Did they really spend millions on this nonsense?

The titles at the beginning were amateurish and the somber ending credits had me even more baffled; hadn't this just turned into a weird spoof or something, and didn't the director understand the flow or actually watch the film?

I don't know what else to say other than I am a real human being and not a bot. Some of the overhead panning shots of the mansion were quite nice, through, I suppose!
