Jason Statham fans rejoice! As another of the action icon’s thrillers is all set to stream for free from the end of this month. Meaning we’ll be going into the new year just as we’d always hoped - watching The Stath hit as many people as possible. Released back in 2013, the action crime outing Hummingbird, released in the United States as Redemption, is all set to land on Tubi on January 1, 2025, and finds Statham in a much more overtly dramatic role than his usual action movie fare.

One of the most delicate, heartwarming films I saw at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year was Sally Aitken’s Every Little Thing, which follows the journey of a specialist hummingbird rehabilitator as she cares for her tiny winged patients in Los Angeles. Picked up by Kino Lorber for a January 10 release beginning in NYC, the first trailer has now arrived.

The end of the year is not something to celebrate for Jason Statham fans, as Dec. 31 may be a rather unfortunate day for fans of the action movie actor who are subscribed to Netflix.

As per Netflix, Dec. 31 will mark the last day Statham's The Mechanic and Redemption are available to stream on the platform. Both movies are considered favorites for many fans of the actor. The Mechanic, released in 2011, served as a remake of the 1972 movie starring action genre legend Charles Bronson. Statham's version earned over $76 million at the box office upon release, and despite its initial mixed reviews, the movie has come to a place where it's fondly celebrated by fans as one of the action star's underrated films. Wilco have announced a deluxe reissue of their fifth studio album, A Ghost Is Born, to mark its 20th anniversary. The box set will be out on February 7th, 2025 via Nonesuch Records, but you can hear an alternate version of “Handshake Drugs” recorded at New York’s Sear Sound now. Stream it below.

The expanded edition of the 2004 Grammy-winning album will be available as either a 9xLP and 4xCD package or a 9xCD set. It will feature 65 previously unreleased tracks, comprised of alternates, outtakes, and demos. The reissue also includes a complete 2004 concert recording from Boston’s Wang Center and Wilco’s “fundamentals” workshop sessions for A Ghost Is Born. Pre-orders are ongoing.

The People’s Choice Country Awards, first held in 2023, will return for a second edition on NBC in September, with a list of nominees announced Thursday that includes some of the biggest names crossing over between country and the pop mainstream, including Beyoncé, Shaboozey, Zach Bryan, Kacey Musgraves, Morgan Wallen and Jelly Roll.

Bryan led the nominations with 19, followed by Beyoncé with 17 and Musgraves with 15. Notably, none of those three artists had a huge year at country radio, despite their outsized presences as mass-media superstars. That may be one way in which this awards show is looking to distinguish itself from two of its most obvious competitors, the country-music-industry-voted CMA Awards and ACM Awards.

Steven Knight has written the long mooted feature film adaptation of his hit television drama, Peaky Blinders, coming soon to Netfilx.

Netflix has officially confirmed that the Peaky Blinders film is happening, and we won’t have long to wait before we see it – cameras begin rolling later this year. Tom Harper, who directed half of Peaky Blinders series one, is directing the film from a screenplay by Knight. Netflix is co-producing with BBC Film.

Cillian Murphy, who led all three series as Tommy Shelby, is reprising the role on the big screen and is also producing, along with Knight, Caryn Mandabach and Guy Heeley.

Murphy told Deadline, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

“When I wrote this song, I knew I wanted this to be the title of the album,” Pearce said in a statement. “This song plays on my bluegrass roots but also lyrically tells the story of the journey I am on of finding love. This is the most unapologetically ‘Carly’ song I’ve ever written.”

Given the success rate of most marriages, especially ones made and marketed in Hollywood, it’s a testament to Jennifer Lopez’s unyielding faith in love that she recorded an entire concept album, This Is Me…Now, revolving around her rekindled romance with husband Ben Affleck. “When I was a girl they’d ask me what I’d be/A woman in love is what I grew up wantin’ to be,” she admits, feminism be damned, on the opening track.

Throughout her ninth studio album, Lopez repeatedly refers to the “destiny” and “fate” of her relationship with Affleck without so much as a hint of irony or skepticism. “We get to have a do-over, forever,” she confidently declares on “This Time Around.” Maybe she’s just always been playing the long game. After all, the whole conceit behind “Dear Ben,” a track from her 2002 album This Is Me…Then, aged terribly—until it didn’t.

Redemption received mixed reviews and has a low score of 47% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was also a box office bomb, grossing only $12.6 million worldwide against a $20 million budget. Despite its flaws, Redemption is worth watching for fans of Jason Statham's strong lead performance and those who enjoy action thrillers.

2013's Redemption (also known as Hummingbird in the international release) did not live up to the hype according to critics and audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and beyond. Starring Jason Statham, Agata Buzek, Benedict Wong, and Vicky McClure, the film follows a homeless ex-Special Forces soldier named Joey Jones, who is now with Ptsd and alcohol dependence after serving in Afghanistan. Joey assumes someone else's identity to start a new life, but after befriending a young nun who works at a church in the city, he sees himself in a dangerous situation.

Redemption did not meet praise...

If there is cinematic butt to be kicked, rest assured that Jason Statham will be at the front of the line. Since he burst onto the scene in Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998, he’s left a lot of broken bodies and wrecked cars in his wake. And when Expendables 4 rolls out on September 20, he will be nearing his 50th film, the lion’s share being unapologetic explosive action.

Statham makes movies with staying power. He’s made four Expendables films, three Transporters, two Mechanics (2011 and 2016), tw0 Cranks (2006 and 2009) and two Megs (2018 and 2023). Oh, yes, he also jumped into the Fast and Furious universe, making Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017), Fast X (2023) and the spinoff Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (2019), teaming with Dwayne Johnson.

As a leading man, his films have delivered $1.8 billion worldwide, according to The Numbers.

Look beyond the flashes of cathartic violence, the numerous double-dealing and betrayals, and the relentless quest for power featured throughout every season of "Peaky Blinders," and it's plain to see that the entire BBC series boils down to a very simple and straightforward concept. At its heart, the arc of Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby is about a man who has been completely unable to come to terms with the trauma inflicted upon him during wartime. Much of the early seasons of the hit show focuses on the crime lord's Ptsd-caused flashbacks to his time serving as a tunneler for the British army in World War I. Although he and his regiment saved countless lives, his horrific near-death experiences left him a shell of the man he used to be ... and, in effect, every single one of his actions throughout the series stems from this one event.

Upon signing a new recording and publishing partnership with BMG — announced by Billboard — Lopez is gearing up to drop her ninth studio album, This Is Me…Now, under the global alliance.

A remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo may be on the way at Paramount Pictures, with Robert Downey Jr. at its center and Steven Knight writing its script.

Vertigo was originally produced by Paramount back in 1958, and according to Deadline, Hitchcock’s estate favored the studio for handling the new production. The original film starred James Stewart as John “Scottie” Ferguson, a former police detective who has developed a fear of heights and vertigo. After leaving the force, Ferguson is hired by an acquaintance to follow his wife and investigate her strange behavior. It was the first movie to use the dolly zoom, an effect that distorts perspective, mimicking Ferguson’s disorientation.

“Alita: Battle Angel,” “The Lion King” and “Toy Story 4” lead all films in nominations for the Visual Effects Society’s 18th annual Ves Awards, which were announced on Tuesday morning. Those three films received five nominations each in the 25 categories encompassing film, television and special projects.

But two television shows, “Game of Thrones” and “The Mandalorian,” received six nominations each to lead all projects. Three of the nominations for “The Mandalorian” were for the character of “The Child,” better known to fans of the show as Baby Yoda, or for the episode that bears his name.

In the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature category, the Ves category that corresponds most closely to the Oscars’ Best Visual Effects category, the nominees were “Alita: Battle Angel,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Gemini Man,” “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and “The Lion King.” All five of those films are on the Oscars shortlist for visual effects.

Exclusive: In a multi-million dollar deal, Lionsgate UK has boarded Guy Ritchie’s untitled Jason Statham action-thriller which was launched by Miramax and CAA Media Finance at the American Film Market.

The project, which re-teams Ritchie and Statham for the first time since Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, was one of the hot properties at the Afm. As we revealed, MGM stumped up for domestic and select international rights, and a bunch of major territories are in final negotiations.

Pic follows ‘H’, a “cold and mysterious” character working at a cash truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week. The film shifts across timelines and between various character’s perspectives. Also starring are Scott Eastwood, Josh Hartnett and Holt McCallany.

The movie, currently in early production, was known as Cash Truck during the Afm but it doesn’t have an official title yet.

“Patrick Melrose” director Edward Berger is re-teaming with Benedict Cumberbatch for the thriller “Rio” with Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal producing and starring.

“Call Me by Your Name” helmer Luca Guadagnino had been attached last year to direct “Rio,” but fell out due to scheduling commitments. Production companies Studiocanal, Sunnymarch, and Nine Stories confirmed the attachments of Berger, Cumberbatch, and Gyllenhaal on Friday.

Producers on “Rio” are Cumberbatch and Adam Ackland through SunnyMarch, and Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker through Nine Stories. Ron Halpern and Shana Eddy are overseeing for Studiocanal.

The pic follows Claire (Murray), who fights for a chance at love with a charming new doctor (Donovan) and for a promotion to free herself from the misery her supervisor creates. Brough and Brittany Wiscombe are producing the pic via at Silver Creek productions. Donovan, repped by Artists Only Management, is set to star in two other indie films, Hot Water and World War II pic Wolf Hound. Production started June 11 with Craig Brewer directing from a script by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Murphy is also producing with John Davis and John Fox. Michael Buegg is executive producing.

The project centers on the life of Rudy Ray Moore, who recorded the Dolemite comedy albums in the early 1970s and used the proceeds to finance the 1975 film “Dolemite,” in which he starred as a pimp and ghetto hero. Moore also starred as Dolemite in “The Human Tornado,” “The Monkey Hustle,” and “Petey Wheatstraw: The Devil’s Son-in-Law.

F. Gary Gray’s Fenix Studios has tapped Gary Glushon as Executive Vice President where he’ll oversee building the company’s film and television slate.

Glushon previously served as Evp of China-based Fundamental Films where he executive produced the Ethan Hawke film 24 Hours to Live and oversaw such projects as Keanu Reeve’s upcoming Replicas and the Black List script Hummingbird, with Milla Jovovich attached.

The mid-six-figure deal is the UK outfit’s biggest single development acquisition to date. While plot details are being kept under wraps I understand the thriller follows a prisoner who is sentenced to solitary confinement on a remote asteroid.

Swedish directing duo Fredrik Akerstrom and Markus Kryler (pictured), known for directing hit video game Battlefield 1 are attached to direct the script from Steve Isles (The Possession Of David O’Reilly). Project is being pitched as in the vein of Moon and Ex Machina.
