Will they or won't they annoys
susansundaisy15 June 2021
I wish they would keep it to art history and crime without the dumb romance. They wouldn't make a good couple and that's fine.

admirable
Kirpianuscus6 March 2021
More than a crime serie. This is the basic virtue of this admirable work. The second, the beautiful connection between lead actors. But the best part are the dialogues with the artists or the father looking Warhol - like or the passion of art critic or the demons of the cop. A great film , special at whole, giving more than murders or secrets but an inspired architecture of detail.

Art for Art's Theft
westsideschl19 August 2022
Still another art stealing crime theme with the usual fake reproduction misdirections. Bonus lots of artist's techniques & symbolism explained (although some of the insights seem fancifully made-up & not verifiable).

Delightful!

As a family of artists and art historians, and lovers of mysteries and of Paris (!) this series ticks all the boxes! Nicholas Gob and Éléonore Gosset have such chemistry! Nice well-rounded characters. I first saw Gob in A French Village; he played a very complex character whom you hated, pitied, felt great compassion for...and hated again by turns...so I was excited to see that he would be in this series. So far, all the characters ring true for me. We're bingeing this on MHz, and hoping for season 3!

If you enjoy mysteries, art combined with a learning this is géniale (brilliant).

We stream MHz and found this wonderful French series that is a mystery based on art crime. The very best part of this series, for both of us, is the information the show provides on various artists and paintings. We wish we had some of this information when searching out famous paintings on our visits to the Louvre and Musée d'Orsay. If you enjoy mysteries, and art combined with a learning experience this is géniale (brilliant). We hope MHz will offer all seasons available.

Two people that appear to have nothing in common (but they do) , solve art mysteries and murders in a funny way. Love it!

This is simply the most excellent series of all
driel-715-58846922 July 2021
The acting is superb all around, and the art & history lessons are fascinating whether you are familiar with the art history or not. And you don't need to be an expert because it's really about solving a mystery, contending with new clues, and watching further growth and developments between Captain Verlay and Florence. I have seen both actors in other shows and they are consistently real in every role, excellent actors. The sets are lovely, and every character is just right (tho I could live without Juliette). We just finished binging Season 4, I think it was the best ever, and will wait breathlessly for Season 5.

Interesting idea but bad realization
m-de-werd18 March 2021
So far I have only seen two episodes of these series: Un fantôme à l'opéra and La malédiction d'Osiris. I am not sure if I will watch more of them, as I was very disappointed. The idea to come crime stories with art history was interesting, but the stories didn't make sense. What was even worse was that I just couldn't stand the main characters and their hysteric behaviour.

Fine Art Brought to Life
csdcsdcsd20032 August 2023
I have two degrees in History of Art and have visited many world class fine arts museums, plus I've studied the beautiful French language off and on for years so I especially appreciate "L'Art du Crime" which is so well done and often hilarious - one particularly amusing episode involves Fragonard's The Bolt/The Lock - 1777 (which we saw on display at a special exhibit at the Luxembourg Gardens) depicting a man and a woman behind closed doors in a disheveled bedroom. The two main TV characters give the painting a whole new lease on life - the bald cop Captain in a boyish Dutch-looking wig and art expert Florence especially hilarious lusting away after him in period dress and a long gray fright wig. Elsewhere, her face and expressive tender brown eyes often remind me of the Mona Lisa. So well done. I also love scenes that take us viewers down into the depths of the ancient Louvre - been there and done that. Watching this series is a great reminder of my wonderful visits to Paris with my husband who also gets a big kick out of this series. Perfect entertainment combining art, crime and romance. We view these shows on MHZ. I've noted some criticisms of the show due to the romantic angle but the brainy funny Florence has had her share of failed romances and just can't help falling for her co-worker, the serious but often lumbering cop on a mission.

Tiring Show
jayydee38 September 2022
I watched the first season of this series and will not be watching anymore.

It is just not entertaining and the acting and plots are so bad.

The two main characters started to become annoying with their continual arguments and banter in loud voices. Very tiring watching the woman have one episode after another with her phobia about stairs. The plots don't make a lot of sense (the police would never allow a civilian to be present during their crime scene investigations.) The hint at romance with the two mail characters is a farce. The acting overall is quite bad. More at the level of a children's show. I think this show is overrated.

How a single actor can ruin a show
L1300416 December 2018
The main actor play so badly. How such a miscast is possible ? It's so sad because the show is well-written and the other actors are good. Especially the actress who plays the art expert.

Just another French Farce
qui_j18 July 2019
This is your usual bit of silliness from French TV that just falls flat! Terrible acting, the usual obtuse dialog filled with flowery language, and a lot of shouting that's supposed to pass for acting. It really is a colossal waste of time that clearly would have little in the way of global appeal.
