When kabaddi comes to the rescue! [+39%]

Warning: Spoilers
'Georgettan's Pooram' has a really sloppy initial half where nothing really moves forward for a good 75-80 minutes. The supposed bits of humor come across as half-cooked as well. A bunch of jobless dudes in Thrissur (accent is compulsory, of course) are unconditionally attached to their childhood playground (Mathai parambu) where they indulge in 'slightly mischievous' activities such as boozing every second night, ogling at women and dancing to songs. A boring one- sided romance involving George (played by Dileep) and Merlin (Rajisha Vijayan) takes up a sizable portion of the first half. We all know how much of an explosive actress Rajisha is, but her chops are not put to good use here.

The film picks up pace in the second half with the entry of Chemban Vinod, who does a pretty decent job playing the antagonist. The kabaddi element is what makes the film a slightly entertaining affair in the latter half. Even though the way it all plays out is absolutely predictable, there is at least a minimal sense of purpose. At 2h 35m, 'Georgettan's Pooram' is indeed a tedious watch with very little pay-off. While Dileep and his gang of cronies (played by Sharafudheen, Vinay Forrt and another unknown actor who mouths like two dialogues in the entire film) do not employ the regular slapstick mode of humor and attempt to elate the audience through counter-dialogues and reactions, the result, although a lot better than the Janapriyanaayakan's other recent outings, is underwhelming to be honest.
