Ty takes off, again leaving Amy
MamaBirdie4722 February 2021
I used to like Ty but really? Every time life gets hard Ty goes into the fight or flight mode. He's leaving Amy at 3 months pregnant to save Gobi bears in Mongolia? I clapped when Tim expressed his opinion at the dinner table which is how normal people would react. Ty has barely been a partner of Scott's clinic where he's still new at getting post graduate hands on experience which is much different than book work and HE'S the one compared to more seasoned vets to save the Gobi Bears in Mongolia along with Bob who already has proven to be a terrible decision maker ie: working with the poachers? If this duo is their last hope than there is little success for Vets without Borders. The whole reason Ty chose to partner up with Scott instead of partnering up with Amy at the ranch is because they both said it would give him much needed experience. Ty has ultimately always been about himself leaving Amy when he shouldn't. Example, after the 1st time he kissed Amy he took off alone and left her for 4 months to find his father. After he said he needed 3 weeks to find himself he took off alone and left her for 3 months and came back with Blair on the back of his motorcycle and his need to be alone without Amy turned into a road trip with Blair and Grant over Amy. When it was supposed to be his last day with Amy before he went off to university he chose instead to take off with Scott over Amy on a call and almost died in the plane crash. When he went to spread his dads ashes he told Amy he didn't want her with him but allowed Jack over Amy to share that moment with. When he went to see his mother when she relapsed drinking he told Amy he didn't want her with him and chose to deal with Wade over Amy. When situations arise where he should want the woman he professes to love to stand in solidarity with him to provide emotional support and tackle problems together as any normal couple instead he always wants to leave her to take off by himself or with someone else over her. Vets without Borders had been in existence well before Amy was pregnant. He had years to join up for any number of causes but chooses now to do so? He should've done so when he was single. His priority now is to stay with Amy and the baby. If everyone left their pregnant wife because they wanted to devote themselves to a humanitarian mission and because they've "never felt so compelled so driven about anything about injustice" then no one would ever choose to stay and watch their wife gain weight, deal with pregnancy hormones, have morning sickness, be stressed out daily about the financial and emotional toll of raising a child etc. But Ty gets to go off and escape the stress of impending fatherhood and get away from it all (including a loss of income with a baby on the way and the need to still pay back his student debt) leaving Amy as the sole bread winner in her pregnant state for 4 months in the care of an aging grandfather, a father who doesn't live with her on-site, underaged girls who have no experience with caring for a pregnant woman, on a ranch that could use his help with Amy being perfectly fine with this. The writers went off the rails this time. Totally unbelievable!

Disappointed

My wife and myself discovered this series several months ago. With all the trash on tv now, we found this show to be very pleasing and a joy to watch. We routinely watch 3 episodes each evening. Tonight, we were watching S10 Ep4. We both were completely disgusted when Tim used one of the most profane phrases possible. This is the first time we've heard profanity on this show, and twice in one show. The use of what he said reflects upon everyone involved in making this show! Thanks for defiling what, up to this point, was a pleasurable show to watch! Be proud of yourselves....

Disappointed

My husband and I were shocked to hear GD in this "family" show. We have watched all ten seasons and were highly disappointed in this episode. The use of this type of profanity was totally unnecessary. If I am watching a television series that portrays itself as family viewing, I expect much better. The writers, producers and actors have all disappointed me. Throughout all ten seasons, the series has presented itself with drama and entertainment that has been appealing to families and to those interested in this type of viewing but this episode destroyed its reputation. I would have expected if the show was going in this direction that it would have gradually changed to at least give viewers an idea. Instead it was out of the blue and unexpected. Very disappointing with this episode's language and the story line of Ty as a husband and expectant father.

worst episode yet
mcgx64 August 2023
The whole series has been about family!!! BUT then this episode came along. I get Lou and Peter being unable to put their family first. Their entire life has been the corporate world and to them that is what is important!! I don't agree but that is the world today. Business first , family second!! That is why the world is going to hell!! Satan has blinded people to the importance of family. But I'm preaching and this is about this episode. Ty talks about "regrets" if he doesn't go, well the bigger regret should be NOT BEING THERE TO WATCH OVER HIS NEW WIFE AND THEIR FIRST BORN BABY!!! TIM FOR ONCE IS TOTALLY CORRECT!!! But I have to realize that this is a liberal Canadian show and liberals say business and the world first and family last!!!

A Most Unusual Storyline
downward-0187315 December 2023
Ty and Amy's storyline was one of the strangest in the show's nine-plus seasons. First, Bob's passion for the Gobi bears seemed abrupt and out of character. The character has always been laid-back and accepted that some animals can't be saved; suddenly he's full of zeal for this cause in Mongolia. Second, he seemed puzzled that Ty would want to stay with his pregnant wife. A veterinarian especially should understand a father's instinctive need to stay close to his pregnant mate.

Third, for Ty, deciding whether to tend to Mongolian bears or his pregnant wife should have taken about two seconds. Amy will have enhanced emotional, physical, and financial needs during her pregnancy. It is Ty's direct responsibility to fill those needs - not his father-in-law, grandfather-in-law, or anyone else.

It might have been more understandable if Ty were offered a chance to make more money by working a few months in a reasonably distant location, say Toronto or the US. But a volunteer mission to save endangered bears on the other side of the world? Come on! The writers even seem to address the absurdity through Tim's outburst at the dinner table.

Fourth, Amy is naïve about the support she will need during her pregnancy. She seems to think pregnancy will be a breeze and won't affect her normal routines too much. But this is actually in harmony with her character, so realistic enough.

Heartland is an interesting show. Sometimes it depicts family relations realistically. Peter and Lou's breakup has seemed almost painfully realistic. Other times, it is totally unrealistic - for many episodes, Jack and Lisa's marriage seemed more like a friendly business relationship. In this episode, a realistic relationship takes an unrealistic turn. It's still the best show on television, though.
