movie full of farts
beevenkat15 July 2019
#GuestIinLondon is a movie full of farts. Yes, u heard it right. There are frequent farts, jokes on farts n a ghazal on farts. Besides gas, this film discusses matters like the 9/11 attacks, the loss of a child, how a typical bahu should behave, respect towards elders, an irritating boss, a marriage of convenience, the bad quality of Chinese products n of course, our neighbor, Pakistan. Paresh irritates, Tanvi is wasted, Kartik n Kriti are good. Some scenes are funny, but the basic premise has been stretched for too long. Rating 2.5/5.

Gets worse when you realise it released in 2017.
sumi-mishra-78923 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I actually wished to rate this 0/10. And it's not because of my high expectations from Paresh Rawal based on his other movies.

The movie was cringe-worthy and appalling. Without telling you about the story, here are a few things that actually happened and/or are shown in the movie:

  • A song about farts. About 70% of the supposed comedy in the film is on farts. I cannot remember the exact number of times Paresh Rawal farted, followed by everyone stopping and making a face and his wife commenting about his bad stomach.

  • The other 30% of the supposed comedy in the film consists of comments on India-Pakistan relationship, Racism, Sexism and misogyny that'll leave you uncomfortable if you care about those issues.

  • A scene where the "Chachi Ji" decided to give a proper massage to their neighbor's (Pakistani man+ black wife) kid. She complained about how the kid's skin was dark because the mother didn't clean him properly. Something like "Had she cleaned and massaged him properly, he wouldn't be so dark"

  • Casual instances of sexual harassment in workplace ignored by everyone until Chachaji needed to be shown as a hero who cared about women.

  • This is subjective, but they had shown so many video clips of 9/11 towards the ending. Trust me when I say this, but the actual footage of planes crashing and people jumping off the building to escape suffocation did not add anything to the plot of the movie. It was a sad, pathetic and shameful way of generating emotions in the audience. I have watched many movies in Hollywood invoke deep feelings while using the 9/11 as a plot but not showing anything other than an audio of the news about the event. It was the last straw for me about this movie. I am ashamed and infuriated that the makers of this movie would stoop so low to generate emotions in the audience. (the movie was still U/A BTW). P.S. I am not against using that as a story, or showing the memorial at the end. But using actual footage from the incident was very, very disrespectful and unnecessary in the movie.

  • The blatant "traditionalism" shown was very irritating for me. How the guests imposed all sexist traditions on the guy's girlfriend was just ridiculous. And of course she was okay with it towards the end because that's what women are supposed to do, right?

What's still worse is that even after having not particular standards about comedy, the movie's story-line was haphazard to say the least. Ah, how did I forget about the part where they suspected their guests were terrorists and the producers made a supposed comedy about ISIS killing people? They became suspicious after seeing them talking to a Muslim BTW. Just plain appalling.

To sum it up, even the basic message of the movie was absurd. It basically said that Indians would feel better about leaving their guests in the middle of nowhere rather than confronting them about them overstaying their welcome.

I have lost faith in Bollywood movies after this. I took my Dad (a doctor) along with his friend's family (both doctors) who obviously don't enjoy comedy based on farts. I wouldn't blame my dad for not wanting to watch any movies from now on.

Good one

Good one, I liked it ! It a really good and well made movie with elements of comedy. It's a one off watch but a worthwhile movie, the average rating of 5.5 here on IMDB is too low for it ! Deserves to be around 6.2

Stop Watching Midway
shridharpatel24 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Reading some of the other reviews, I was astonished to see some 9- 10s being given to this movie. A score usually reserved for best work in cinema is being reserved for a film that has few defining moments. Yes, there are some good laughs, but the real kicker is the terrible story that gets introduced halfway through. SPOILERS NOW: At some point, the audience is treated to a suspicion that the uncle and aunt are actually TERRORISTS here in London for a bombing! Such a plot development completely ruined the film thus far, which was alright. Afterward we are treated to a preachy story about the son of the uncle and aunt who passed away in 9/11. Such an abrupt and sudden tone change does not suit a comedy film. The two protagonists spend the entire film trying to think of a plan to get rid of these unwanted guests and the best they can do is to abandon them at a coffee shop? Extremely lazy. The songs were okay, same with the acting. Nothing spectacular, but for a Paresh Rawal film, for which my expectations are usually much higher for, I was thoroughly disappointed.

Little slow here and there - over all a good movie.
sasimeduri15 April 2019
There has been many movies about the nine by eleven attacks. This angle in the movie gets revealed only after the first half of the film. With pranks, that Paresh ji does in the movie (the anthim sanskar scene) It brings back memories of Kal ho na ho movie where Kajal sings the vandemataram - the typical sense of bringing Indian thingy into a foreign country.

This sequel disappoints..
pratyush26114 September 2017
Firstly it is not a comedy film. Karthik Aryan is a decent actor known for his comic timing but he was widely underutilized by the director. Paresh Rawal, Tanvi Azmi & Sanjay Mishra all three are great bunch of actors but the script of the movie is very weak. Moreover, random jokes on fart, neighbors (Pakistan)etc. were not appropriate. Climax questions logic of the movie. Waste of money even if you like brainless comedy films..

Not as good as its prequel!
anikb-8709918 September 2021
ATKJ was one hilarious ride but its sequel GUEST IN LONDON wasnt. Only 40% of the jokes genuinely worked out but it was the climax that kinda melted my heart (it is related to one of the most horrifying incidents in human history). Hence I will give it 6 stars otherwise it is of no match to ATKJ.

Warning: Spoilers
A very bad film with lousy jokes , this film is also very racist , and with so bad visual effects it looks like its a cartoon (especially in the scene of the 9/11 attacks) and also the film has a very bad and copied plot which was copied from the proposal .The film is also very sexist and has shown London in a very unrealistic way.

A tribute to Indian values showing importance of elders in the family
tvcp9 July 2017
I am surprised to see the ratings for the film so far- 5.5 only. I believe raters have failed to see the basic intent of the film and the message it purports to convey. There are mixed responses to the film as I can see, critics are rating it below 3 out of 5 and public is rating it 4-5 out of 5. Are critics so dumb these days that they can't understand the diversity of movies made in Hindi cinema these days? It is no surprise to me that critics generally consider themselves superior in their understanding of cinema which motivates them to judge movies so hastily. The movie deserves much more than the treatment it is getting. If not 9 or 10, at least 7-8 rating is the adequate quality for this movie.

That being said, the reasons for a rating of 9/10 would be clear to you if you still have Indian values in your blood. The issue of an uninvited guest at home is a sensitive one for our today's social values and norms. The movie is all about sentiments involved around treatment of uninvited guest at home which are woven under an intricate system of Indian values. Why we discount the theme of indianism on its face value? This is what most critics do. The film begins with acceptance of an old Indian couple who claim to be known to the film's actor, Aryan through their neighborhood in India.

The character of chachaji makes everyone laugh through his witty acts and makes others submit to his ways of Indian culture. The display of Indian sentiments and emotions was persistent throughout the movie. In many places, there was realization of importance of following Indian customs and ways of respecting others. The movie will take you on a ride of emotions through an interplay of western and Indian values. Such themes are generally considered out-dated these days. But movie plays these dramas in a sensible manner. This was made possible by the acting of Paresh Rawal, who was the strongest character in the movie.

Its true that the movie had many weak areas and somewhat less attractive story. It was quite predictable from the beginning, though there were many surprises in the end. The movie got boring sometimes and it revolved mainly around chachaji's role. Songs were OK-OK. The strength of the movie is its representation of Indian values which are not priorities of most of us in current social dynamics. Specially the presence of elders at home which support young members in their times of distress. The caring attitude of chachaji and chachiji truly showed how a parent ought to behave for their own children.

The movie is a must watch for lovers of Indian values and sentiments. The movie is a message that we need to respect our elders despite differences of lifestyles and beliefs. There may be many different ways sensible elder members may shower their love and care for the young people at home. Such apparently outdated themes still deserve a place in Hindi cinema. These need to be looked from a fresh perspective and an open attitude should be adopted while liking such movies and stories.

Terrible offence to a Nation
shifat04627 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This completely fails as a sequel of ATKJ. Full movie is full of third class jokes like farts, neighbors etc, specially mentioning Pakistan again and again. Demeaning Pakistan was planned which clearly emerged in the whole movie.

Extremely bad jokes and offensive content
hamzamughalata-852696 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Started watching this movie but had stop after 20 mins and write this review. Extremely sad and offended, I have always liked the plot and the character representation of Karthik Arayan in his movies. Some of his movies are my favorites such as Pyar Ka Punchnama and luka chuppi. I tried finding humor in some of extremely offensive jokes but had to stop after a while. long story short could've directed and produced differently and the representation of the neighbor (Pakistani) is very saddening. Amidst the current political situation between the two countries, I think movies as such play a very critical role in framing/shaping public beliefs. Actors may not believe in this but have some sort of responsibility somehow to portray a friendly picture of two nations in their movies if cannot do so at least try not including offensive humor. The biggest reason being is not only a lot of Indians but Pakistani's watch Bollywood movies and finding offense of such nature is not good business. Of course, a little friendly banter is always good. movies like 'Chal mera putt' draw a fine line between banter and pure offense. I mean long story short I know even though my review is not going to make much of a difference but I hope someone understands what I am trying to convey here. Also, these political and geographical beliefs are shaped through government and most of Indians and Pakistanis living overseas in countries such as England, Canada and States are actually very good friend this includes some of my best friends. Thanks for the read and hope you have a great day!

Witty comedy with a lesson...
vikeshsham7 July 2017
8/10 Paresh Rawal has definitely taken the lead in this flick with his perfect comic timing. Kartik Aryan has done a just job with his role, Kriti & Tanvi Azmi have also done a decent job. Although not a big banner movie, but definitely worth a watch, will appeal to all seniors as well. Good job done by the writers, they have underlined a meaningful lesson with all the senseless jokes.

Movie should be un-released (if it was possible)
abhineetraj-122-2999114 January 2019
I could only watch the first 30-40 minutes of it. Couldn't tolerate any further. Senseless emotional and comedy scenes. Timing of all the scenes were pathetic.

It just goes to show that Paresh Rawal is not getting enough work in Bollywood and hence accepting anything coming his way.

(Didn't know who the main actors were)

Movies like this give Indian cinema a terrible name. Terrible acting!
emiel123412 July 2018
Apart from Paresh Rawal, this is the worst thing I have ever watched. The lead women, I can't even call her an actress, is terrible. She should do modeling instead. It's movies like this that make me dislike Indian cinema. Almost broke my tv after watching this sorry excuse for a movie.

Waste In Everyway
niaz_islam9 September 2017
Simply there is nothing good about this entire film that I can share.

The casting was okay but script ruin it for everybody. The story had no logic or depth at all. This is a story about a sham marriage to get citizenship when some unwanted guest arrives. These unwanted guests took over the life of the hero and heroine who hardly even know each other. Most of the times characters were consistent but often they go out of characters and do things which make no sense whatsoever. And comedy elements of the story was mainly cheap comedies which were rather annoying than entertaining.

Overall, watching this film will be a complete waste of your time and money.

Not Recommended.

Entertaining but goes off track around interval
sairairfan-8633517 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is an entertaining movie. The beginning is good everything is going smoothly when all of a VERY sudden kriti starts getting annoyed by the guests which doesn't makes sense because she was shown to embrace a true "family" feeling due to the guests. It looked like a drastic change in kriti's behavior, she looked bipolar. Other then that movie is very good.

vinayshri6 January 2021
Go watch it if you want some cringe stuff to entertain yourself! I loved the cast but not there performance as actors (except Paresh Raval Sir). He entertained the whole story and others were just delivering the dailogues. There was nothing new in this movie though. Thank you.

Amazing. One of the best movies I have watched this year.
gchiragg9 July 2017
I suggest everyone give this movie a try. Its hilarious yet gives us a serious message about Indian value. All the critics reviews make no sense at all. This movie is wonderful. I came with low expectations and left with a smile on my face. I suggest you watch this movie in theatre. This is one of the best of the year.
