A rare defeat

Warning: Spoilers
Stakes are high and may be somewhat too high in this last episode of Bordertown. We mostly enjoyed all the episodes and the last one stands out because it gets personal, very personal for chief inspector Sorjonen. It's rare to see a top cop losing on it's game in the last episode of a series but this is one of the strength and characteristics that sets this Nordic crime movies apart from many others.

You're Kidding

Warning: Spoilers
THIS is how you end the season? Apparently, the filmmakers decided to transform Lasse Maasalo into an on-going nemesis. Which required compromising the character of Kari Sorjonen.

In this episode Sorjonen is tossed by his emotions. He's not the steady, consistent and self-controlled person we saw in the previous episodes.

There was the odd scene where we see Pauliina Sorjonen asking for special favors from Robert Degerman, which is an element of corruption.

It was extremely frustrating to watch Kari solve the case but not gather enough evidence to convict Maasalo.

As Kari reviews the elements of the case, we see his daughter go to the marina alone. Which is a replay of the going in without backup ploy that was used last episode. How realistic is it for a teenage girl to confront an adult pervert without being accompanied (at least) by her boyfriend? And she's got a cop for a father but she doesn't turn the identity of the pervert over to him? It strains credulity.

The ending felt stilted and wholly designed to justify another season.

Standoff

Not as good an episode as its counterpart, a lot of the investigation felt pulled from thin air rather than deciphered. The science felt shaky.
