Backwoods craziness
BandSAboutMovies26 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Steve's marriage is just about over. To escape, he and three of his closest friends head to the mountains to relax for the weekend. However, things are only beginning to go wrong, as a killer is on the loose and what was once a getaway has turned into a battle to survive.

Soon, our protagonists SUV has been vandalized and strange inhuman footprints are found all around their cabin. Add in some definitely monstrous screams and it seems everyone is in trouble. They are, that is, until they shoot the monster. All good? Nope. It turns out that the beast they got was just the kid version...

I liked Michael Draper's nerdy character the best here, wearing a ridiculous sweater and throwing up nearly any time he's in danger. And oh boy, these guys are in danger for most of the film. This is a fine monster/rural horror low budget movie. It's quick, has some surprises and scares.

Lots of area for improvement
brixtonwa5 October 2019
There's a lot of areas this could've been improved I don't think the story is very strongly written and the individuals who do the acting are either trying to over act or are doing characters that are above their scope of their abilities.

Warning: Spoilers
The title alone made me giggle. The movie was bad, but I wasn't expecting much. It really delivered the laughs, though. Also, I couldn't wsit for Josh to die. Oops.....spolier.

Is that the same bridge from "The Red Woods"???
greenjeremy-1382720 March 2023
So... Where do I start? It's probably a bad sign that the standout from the film for me was the very question I pose in my title. The bridge in the forest they drive across, it looks an awful lot like one from rural western Pennsylvania that was featured heavily in the decent found footage flick "The Red Woods".

The acting is more wooden than the trees mentioned in the films title. All four leads are misogynistic stereotypes, circa a 1997 sitcom. The type of male characters who drink a bit too much, have a beer belly, and have zero charisma... But they always seem to have an overly attractive wife... You know the trope!

Also, this film overuses the ever awful and cliched "day for night" filter WAY too often. I thought I was watching an MST3K rerun as many times as I looked up from writing this review to see these guys stumbling about in the "darkness" of a blue tint laid over a fully day lit forest.

There's no spoilers... As I didn't even finish the film.

WTH??? Between the crap
moulaisonconnie16 August 2023
One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. I can't believe I wasted all this time watching this garbage. The acting is so bad. I can't believe that they've spent money making this ridiculous movie. I'm not sure what they were thinking, but they must've been awfully high when they made this script on this movie. These people need to lay off the drugs. I think that they could've use this to scare people. But they ended up, wrecking it with their opinion of what scares people. Go back to the other side of the trees and start again this will never get an award. Start from scratch and try again really crappy movie.

From the title to the NDE
saferdriver9 October 2021
"Between the trees" so it's a two-tree forest and from there to the end. Recycled pieces put together. Skip it.

Mix of junk
jmbovan-47-16017326 November 2020
So guy is upset with his wife, like marriage ending upset. He goes to a cabin with his 3 buddies. All are annoying. There is animosity between the four of them. Then there is some sort of creature in the woods. And nothing comes of anything but death. Barely acted, no real plot that couldn't have been done in about 15 minutes. Just sad.

An Exercise in Stupidity
tmccull523 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There is a single scene that nicely captures and encapsulates just how stupid that this movie is. I'll get to that in a moment.

A small group of friends go on a little wilderness excursion. They run afoul of some half-assed "The Hills Have Eyes"/"Wrong Turn" mutant, which hunts these friends down after one of them accidentally kills a member of the mutant's family.

Now, as to the scene that I mentioned. One of these friends, injured and seeking help, stumbles into a house in the woods. Predictably, he discovers that this house beings to Mr. Mutant. Upon discovering this, what does he do? Flee? Prepare to ambush Mr. Mutant in his own home?

No, and no.

He sits down and plays a piano that he finds in Mr. Mutant's house in the woods. Instead of going Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger, he opts to go Billy Joel, instead.

The title of this movie should have been "Between the Turds", because virtually every character in the movie is one.

Entertaining , I liked It
carolynocean26 May 2023
Ok , so I see most of the reviews here are bad , not sure why ... It ticked all the boxes for me !

It was so refreshing to watch a movie with an all male cast for a change , don't see them that often .

It was very entertaining, and moved along quickly , with a nice touch of humour underlying all the time ! Especially from one character in particular, Josh , he was my favourite !

So , basically it's about four guys heading off to a cabin for a weekend , to do some male bonding and hunting , Steve the main guy , is having a bit of a marriage crisis , and is wanting to take some time out , it goes frome there and takes a few twists and turns along the way .

Stick with it , it's entertaining !

My Review Of "Between The Trees"
ASouthernHorrorFan4 May 2019
The story teases a cryptoid style horror but that is only in the dialog at the beginning between the main characters. I thought it was going in. It was not. What unfolds is a nicely concealed, layered horror story that brings hints of "madman" and "mutants". Douglas does a good job of regulating how much of the deeper plot elements get revealed. At some level the complexity of the movie elevates the experience of watching the story unfold.

The cast is fully committed to the characters. Unfortunately they are not developed to the level that makes you connect with them. They are thinly veiled stereotypes, overdrawn. None are likeable. Still, "Between The Trees" has some stuff happening that is interesting, and there is some atmosphere that keeps your attention. It does go left midway when some comic relief appears- and falls flat.

Special effects, minus CGI gunfire, stays practical. It is pretty good work and, even though it is limited, is a pleasure to see onscreen. The creature design and concept is a bit lackluster, kind of like a theme park mutant from a haunted attraction. Still the idea of It all is chillingly delightful. Overall, "Between The Trees" has as much working in its favor as it has going against it. It's worth checking out and despite it's flaws it is mildly enjoyable.

Surprisingly good
kardosma29 June 2020
Well now, that was quite different to my expectations based on the blurb, and in a good way. I won't go into detail, but there's a bit of a twist that starts to unfold, and even then you're not sure of the why until a little while afterwards when some judiciously used flashbacks give you more of a picture.

It's surprisingly layered for this type of movie, and while the characters aren't always terribly likeable and we don't reeeeally get enough time to have a more developed relationship between them, the actors do quite well in establishing that they're longtime friends.

Overall I'd say give this a watch - you won't have wasted your time (as long as you don't go into it expecting some out and out monster fest). Even the ending has a little quirk to it!

Warning: Spoilers
You better be of a strong constitution to finish this horror movie. It start's out like a buddy flic, then slowly goes south... Best watched @ night to add to the goulish effect 😝

A great little thriller
mjanssens2615 November 2020
I wasn't expecting this to be great but it's actually a tense thriller/horror and you don't know where it's headed which is part of the appeal. Unlike a lot of indie horror movies, this one has decent actors with a lot of credits. Good performances and a fast pace. A bunch of guys go camping and then... craziness ensues. Enjoy it.
