This is a cleverly written show with superb performances by wonderful actors. My only complaint is the drippy very unnecessary Jenny character. Just skip any additional involvement with her because her story is B-O-R-I-N-G.

Don't take it too seriously

This show has some good bones! Cute at times, funny at times, and at other times downright ridiculous but as a young mom I can definitely relate to some moments and I enjoy watching it. I think a lot of the negative reviews on here go way overboard in expecting this show to be some perfectly leftist don't offend anyone whatsoever and portray motherhood in a way that pleases absolutely everyone but quite frankly that's impossible. So take it easy and give it a chance. And don't take it too seriously
4-4-4, on the floor!

I don't see how ppl can possibly say this show isn't funny. I don't even HAVE kids and it's hilarious. From what I know from friends who do have children, this show is pretty spot on. Plus it's original and totally speaks to me as a woman.
And to the reviewer saying Katherine's lips are distracting and then gave a 1 stare review, get a GRIP. What a lame reason to give a bad review.

Very funny!

I was on a long flight, and was planning to check out a single episode before going to sleep.. I didn't think I'd like the show based on the ads I'd seen, but turns out I couldn't stop watching. I ended up seeing seven episodes, laughing out loud, waking up the people next to me. Great show! Very funny, compelling characters, love the writing. I'm baffled by the bad reviews here.. were they watching the same show?! Of course the characters/situations are exaggerated - it's a comedy.
Funny and love that it's filmed in Toronto!

My sister told me about this show first and so I started watching it on Netflix. I was hooked from the first show and couldn't stop watching. I had to get the cbc gem app to start watching the third season and the show even had me running to the store to learn about streaming from phone to TV and bought a Chromecast! Watching third season as I write this. Cool that it is filmed in Toronto!
Great show! Underrated and under appreciated.

While not realistically portraying the experience of many working moms (as some of the negative reviews insist), it has a humorous and engaging way of highlighting many issues that come up with the challenge of juggling numerous and unrealistic expectations for working mothers (i.e., expectations to do it all, work like you don't have kids, parent like you don't have a job, etc). Really enjoy this show! Fun discovery that Kate and Nathan are both producers and married in real life too.
Sneak attack of likability

I'm sorry, but IMBD the ratings of this show is all wrong. I actually chuckled out loud at this show, like literally caught the giggles.
It's utterly relatable and very close to what life can be like as a working mom. Yes, some of it is exaggerated hyperbole, but I think that's what resonates with me. Because real life motherhood can be extremely humorous and overly dramatic .... just like this show. I totally get it. I'll continue to watch.
Funnier than expected

Seasons 1-4 fab, Season 5 unbearable

Warning: Spoilers
I have been struggling through Season 5. I loved 1-4 it would have me laughing out loud with a good dose of tougher stuff too. The funniest thing is the birthday scene with Val and her kids. I'm truly disappointed as I awaited each season eagerly. I don't think I'll finish Season 5 and wait for a redeeming Season 6.
Season 5 is artificially woke and I agree with the lady who finds the portrayal of the Asian characters offensive and I'd add Sloane to that. Why include these actors if they get the awful roles? Leave them out if you can't do any better. Jenny was endearing for the first 3 episodes of the show, she struggled to go back to work, very relatable. I might go rewatch Season 1 to forget my disappointment!

Very funny except the last season
minaniom-133-1401283 May 2023
The first few seasons were really funny and I could totally relate to the characters and the events. I recommend watching it.
Overall the characters of the show was very realistic and they werent like people who live in a different world. This series is not only about moms. There are alot of things in it that happens in every womens life. Some of the episodes are also good to watch with your male partner so they gets an idea of whats going on in womens life if they dont know about them.
The last season was realllly bad though. I wish I hadnt watched the last season, it ruined the whole picture of the series in my mind. They could have end it in the last season.

Warning: Spoilers
So let me get this straight. Kate commits to a company, closes down her business, then leaves that company and her team on their butts primarily because the company told her to be professional... Then the last scene is her blowing her kids off for work? This makes her an admirable, successful businesswoman. Anne, an abusive mental health professional, has continual crises/mental breakdowns then sends her child to another country with no notice, a single book bag, and no living arrangements. This makes her a great mother. Jenny does the right thing twice. This redeems her after being so truly repulsive. Her husband? Dead I guess. Frankie? Dead I guess. Val, no issues obviously, but a butt job? Why? The gross new woman, I don't know her, but literally who cares that she decided to stay home and be a mom. This became such a huge burden to finish, I'm so glad it's over despite it being a horrible conclusion. Did the writers of this show collectively have an aneurysm toward the end there? Squandered.
Don't understand all the hate.

This is a solid show. It is funny and emotional. It shows the choices some mothers are faced with and things that they experience and go through. Of course some of it is exaggerated and some of it is unbelievable but it's fiction!!! It's a tv show. It's entertainment. Keep an open mind watching it. It's worth it.
Very funny

Back on track after an lukewarm Season 5
sdowen-5979313 January 2022
The first 4 seasons were on the mark. Other reviewers complain about the Characters being selfish. The selfish behaviour drives the comedy. Perfect people are not funny. The cast of Seinfeld was very selfish.
They screwed-up Season 5 by moving Anne to Alberta. They falsely portrayed Alberta as a Conservative backwash. That's not representing Albertans fairly. The comedy suffered by creating one dimensional characters in Alberta.
Season 6 is back on track with exploding frogs & Anne struggling with insecurities with her daughter challenging her professional qualifications.
Hopefully Workin' Mom will avoid "jumping the shark" in future seasons. Season 5 "Calgary Adventure" was a mistake that offended more people than it entertained.

Wonder Women in Urban setting
kothapallibalaganesh18 April 2023
Workin' Moms is a bold, cathartic attempt at encapsulating the hustle-bustle of modern women in an urban setting, and rightfully so, it succeeds in delivering a finely balanced dosage of fun and frustration entails from being a leading woman.
The story pretty much promises palpable emotions, three dimensional characters set in a funny, irreverence tone, making it a watch that's important and liberating. Catherine Reitman, the show creator, leads the show as the conflicted Protagonist imbued with inspiring traits backed by stupendous performances by Dani Kind and the rest of the talented cast. Working moms does not shy way or sugarcoat the plight of being a mom and a boss. However, it honors both the hats with valid juxtaposition between professional and personal lives.
The show progress slowly, takes sweet time to impart its significance to its viewers. However, once the epiphany hits, it becomes an unremitting watch rollercoaster using its leading characters. Every character in the show maneuvers with a purpose instead of filling the void. Each deal with their own angels and demons and complement each other for being who they are!
To suffice, Workin' Moms is a great, fun, ruminating & important show where women lead off and on screen. I call this an anomalous reinterpretation of Wonder Women in an urban city rather than isolated Amazon kingdom. The only downside to this show is the end; we are not ready yet to say adios.

Could be really good
e_hopkins-775-23233528 February 2019
I just thought the whole storyline with Olly the dog was super weird. Do the writers hate dogs or something? You're trying to tell me that a woman who has had a dog for 16 years (unrealistic, but won't harp on that) would consider putting the dog down for no reason other than the fact that her mom pretended that the dog injured her? I know it's a TV show, but this sort of pet owner representation is super irresponsible. Having a baby is not an excuse to abandon your pets. Again, I *know* this is fiction, but I just don't understand this mindset.
Great job Canada!

This show is hilarious and I binged watched both seasons! I love how it touches on some very difficult subject matters about being a new mother. Some very real situations and yet the show is quirky and I've found myself howling with laughter.
It deserves a WAY higher rating than 5.1/10!
It's gets better

When I originally tired this series I struggled through episode 1. Tried it again months later and I binged an entire season. Nice short episodes, dealing with real issues. It's odd because I don't really like any of the mums, yet i relate to all of them and want to see where they wind up.
Worth a watch

I. Love.This.Show.So.Much.
I signed up for an IMDB account Specifically to write a review on this show and shoot down those damn negative reviewers.
I don't even have kids, and honestly, part of my reason for not having them yet is because I'm partly afraid of not being perfect. I care too much what others think sometimes, and it's super annoying.
This show makes me feel like I can be a mom and it's okay to not be perfect. Some of the characters say things that you just Know lots of other women are thinking, but are too scared to say it.
I can't believe there are actually negative reviews about this show. You negative reviewers are incredibly narrow-minded and need to open your mind.

A+++ an excellent , warm, honest, funny portrayal of motherhood

I have just finished watching the first three episodes of this new series and joined IMDb specifically to write this review as i am completely flummoxed by the current rating for this program. This TV show has fast become one of my new favorites. The extremely funny dialogue and relatable portrayals of what its like to be a woman dealing with the challenges that come along with being a mum, is a definite must watch. Even if you are not a mom, it is just freaken funny and uplifting. I am truly impressed with the engaging writing and brilliantly portrayed characters. A much needed antidote to all the superhero based shows currently on television. My hat is off ladies, well done!
