Storyline, Script 1, the most important part and exciting part, the Accident that caused this, and how they got into the Escape Pod, got left on the cutting room (editing room) floor.

Kind of like making a movie about the HMS Titanic and NOT showing Events leading up to the Accident, and the Accident.

Science 2, Intensive Gravity of the Sun, plus the explosive force throwing the escape pod towards the Sun, means half the time of the entire movie.

Being a U.S. Military Officer trained and experienced Career Field Nuclear (Weapons) Physics and Physiology, Missiles, and some training with NASA, the amounts of Radiation as X Rays, Ultra Violet (UV), Gamma, Microwaves, would have roasted them inside the escape pod and Rescue Spacecraft long before the outside of the escape pod even heated up. The Earth 93,000,000 Miles away from the Sun. still must have the Magnetosphere to stop lethal exposure to Radiation from the Sun.

Entertainment Value, Action 4. Almost fell asleep numerous times. Movie could have been done in 15 minutes, real time, considering speed going to the Sun.

Another Netflix dud
fotofuel10 March 2019
Trevor is not on form here. This really is a masterclass in phoning it in.

The whole single person thing sometimes works as in Phonebooth or Buried but it's just tedious here. There's no real sense of tension as you don't believe Trevor is doing anything than simply reciting words he's remembered, not protraying a man on a collision course with death.

The strong, authorative female thing is also played out. Do what she says Trevor if you know what's best for you, especially if it's a posh sounding brit one.

Luckily I only watched this I browsed Ebay for a new car. I'd recommend trying to find a decent Alfa Romeo over watching this film.

No end! 90mins of my life I won't get back.
mjcarter7310 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well this an ok film, but it missed a whole bunch of tricks and twists- like what was being tested when the accident happened, what happened to the prototype sun suits mentioned at the beginning... They would have been handy at the end, and what was the true status of conditions aboard the Hathor. Why spend the whole time trying to speak to the commander when there was apparently nothing significant to say to him and finally, when connected home at last...( In the middle of a rescue manoeuvre really???) again apparently have nothing to say! The worst thing though is that there is no ending. The film builds to a rescue attempt and just stops in the middle of it! Yes the filming was good, effects great but insufficient story and lack of any kind of closure means that this is an hour 30min of my life I won't get back.

It could have been title; Stubborn
MarioCritic4 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
OMG, another part of my life gone, and nothing out of it if only some yawns. This is terrible for so many reasons.

First, this movie has 1 actor. That's it. I saw movies with 1 actor that kept me fascinated the whole time, this one, I was wishing he would die and the movie would end.

That is the second reason. The character is stubborn like heck. He keeps arguing, he keeps asking the same thing over and over. It felt like a road trip with the kids saying "are we there yet". It is very annoying.

The movie seems to go somewhere but it goes nowhere. A lot of trying-to-be action that has so many flaws that I won't list them, let's say that anyone that did some physics will notice if they watch this thing.

Third reason is the spoiler. How does it end? You guess as someone that hasn't seen it is as good as mine that has seen it. Gives you a hint!

I love many kind of movies, including some very crappy ones, but this to me is a waste of time. If you did not like "The Martian" (which I thought was incredible), then don't even consider this one, it is so slow and uneventful that you can easily fall asleep...but then you'll wake up to the annoying guy shouting the same thing over and over again. (Shut up and die already!)

Sorry, my opinion, sincerely.

Disturbingly disappointing
jamielees-7061527 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The total of 2 characters only one of which was on screen tells me they spent they're whole low budget on the space cgi. The capsule literally looks like a glowing tin can in most of the shots it's in. And then all that build up of the story only to not actually find out what happens at the end of it. Have to say I was taken in by the trailer but unfortunately you may as well just watch the trailer and end your experience there because you won't get much more satisfaction from watching the movie.

Soulless....it could have been good, but it wasn't.
joshhanke29 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The story was ok, if the ending were better....which it wasn't. No details, but the ending sucked a bag of a*sholes. The whole thing was ruined right from the start, by the utterly horrible sound team. How this made it to release without anyone noticing that the overpowering, excessively loud, nearly constant music was actually drowning out the lines from the actors and the ship computer. I couldn't take it....it was almost the entire movie, just drowning in that awful music.

Oh, and let's not forget the sheer amount of long, drawn out sequences of nothing....what the heck is that about? Just random shit on screen for like 3 minutes at a time, for no reason. The main actor wasn't bad, but he needs better direction. FAR better. Such as....when you look to your left and expect to see your coworker buddy and his face is half exploded, your reaction is not to brush it off as if it's no big thing. Hate to break it to you.

This movie had a tiny bit of potential for a while there, but then it went full Asylum and ended up sucking eggs the whole way through. It got two stars because it COULD have been good....maybe....if the people that made it were never here, and someone else made it. Anyone else.

Not a bad first full-length feature film by UK's Carl Strathie
Top_Dawg_Critic5 December 2018
This is Carl Strathie's 7th film he's written and directed - all shorts, this being his first full length feature film.

This is not a big budget Hollywood blockbuster production, and thus I'll rate it accordingly as a low budget international film by a amateur film maker.

I will say that Steven Ogg's performance was excellent considered he lacked direction from a seasoned director.

The S/VFX although rudimentary, was actually decent with beautiful cinematography inside the capsule and of the sun.

The score was too loud and annoyingly excessive for the most part.

Carl Strathie's directing was really good, capturing some tense moments, but his writing is still stuck in the 'short film' mode. This film had overly extended scenes that dragged on way too long. The pacing was also way to slow. The length of 92 mins for this film needed to be edited down and sped up the pace to a maximum of 60-70 mins. Had this film been substantially edited down to a short film, it would have been a winner.

Nevertheless, still not bad for his first attempt, but could have been much better if Carl stuck to the directing, and passed his story onto a seasoned screenwriter who could have filled in the blanks.

Would I see it again? No. Would I recommend it? Only to die-hard sci-fi fans that have nothing better to watch on a Sunday afternoon. No worthy of all the 1/10 haters, and not even close to the fake 10/10's, but certainly worthy of a 6/10.

Unnecessary peril and hesitation throughout
leejen-1273811 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I hated this movie. The guy hesitates to speak and to react every chance he gets throughout the entire film. It made no sense for him to continue to stare at the sun when he knew it would harm him. Someone in his position and with his qualifications would not have made so many time-wasting mistakes.

Why the excessive hate? You need a hug?
leighfosterlf10 November 2018
I was honestly astounded to see the poor reviews for this movie! I fear that the low scoring reviewers would be just as disrespectful to SK's 2001!

Ogg's performance was appropriate and realistic in my opinion, I also saw nothing wrong with any of the cgi and effects..... Some of the close up work of the Sun ☀ and solar flares were exceptional!

Watch the movie.... Make up your own mind 👍 This isn't even the worst movie I've seen today........ The Predator takes that title!

All I can suggest is that this movie is NO WHERE near as bad as some reviewers are portraying. Maybe people were expecting car chases and cheesy one liners? Not sure 😂

Lower budget - yes. Poor ending - you decide. Should have had the 'event' featured? - why? This is about Troy's bad day at work! Rubbish movie - no.

Slow burn baby, slow burn.
garylawrence11 December 2018
Solis.

This movie covers old ground in a new way. You can't help but feel for Holloway's desperation as his life pod hurtles thru space towards the sun. From the outset Holloway gives off an air of brashness but that literally dissolves as his plight becomes all too clear to him.

I found this movie to be a real 'slow burn' as the story progresses and grips with the voice of Alice Lowe being the glimmer of hope that underlines the despondency felt.

Yes this is low budget but the production values are very high and give that it's sci-fi, the story is so very 'human' that it negates the need for CGI on a blockbuster scale as that would distract from the narrative.

Solis. Well worth watching!

Not worth the time
julian-640-54405827 October 2018
I had some hope for this film based on the trailer, however, I was disappointed and a bit angry that I was tricked into seeing this based on the trailer. Fact is the trailer was more entertaining then the actual film. The acting was weak, the script predictable, the filmography was lack-luster and ending typical. The effects were average but not good enough to save this disaster. This, like many of the the recent indy attempts, appears to be a student project that should get a "D".

Waste of time
Kellyra856 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Steven Ogg is the only good thing about this movie (he's also the only actor). What I found most cringeworthy is that he has limited O2, yet he keeps talking and arguing about stupid things. You have 90 minutes of him trying to survive, but the issue here is that there is no ending. You don't know if either he lives or not. This is insulting and makes the movie a complete waste of time.

lmrolls27 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This film was a waste of 1hour 32minutes of my life. It's definitely low budget and it shows with extremely poor cgi. It was just a man in a space pod the entire time. It has no context of anything that had happened and ends abruptly not actually coming to any conclusion other than the fact you've watched something for nothing. Just don't bother.

Unbelievably unbelievable
Midyetava12 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The script writers just wanted to make fun of the viewers I guess. Sometimes I found myself wishing the main character to die just to end his and the viewers' misery...

We cannot relate with the main character any time at any point in the movie. For example I instantly turn my back if a strong beam of light is about to harm my eyes. That is one of the most humanly reflexes humankind has ever known, yet this character opens his eyes to be blind... We always see the character racing with seconds, but we all know he is gonna make it, so it feels like a desperate agitation directly aiming the poor viewer...

It's just a relief when the character dies, and It's no surprise for the viewer ether...

Science fiction which is a genre I love and admire, should not be teken this lightly. I gave it a solid 4 just for the sake of the effort of the player and crew...

Just talk to your grandma with a walkie talkie, her reactions would make a better movie...

It wasn't bad.
Sleepin_Dragon18 March 2019
I knew after about ten minutes that there wouldn't be a lot of love for this film, but I rather liked it. Yes it was limited, in almost every area, yes it felt a little low budget, but for me it felt like 47 metres down up in Space, virtually the same concept, you're watching a film about hope, will he or won't be, and you're left hanging on til the end to see if he's rescued or not. I definitely wouldn't watch it again, but it was engaging enough. 6/10

Ogg-noxious?
kosmasp14 February 2019
It seems like many think so or at least the rating suggest that it is the case. Solis is playing out in a very tight enviroment. It's almost a theatre play, without gravity and other stuff you may be used to. And it is quite a tour de force for someone I and many others have "played" with. It's Mr. Ogg who while also known for his acting roles, has a very big part in GTA 5, a game that was quite succesful (don't know how Red Dead Redemption 2 did, but GTA sold a lot of copies).

So if that bit of trivia is something that is interesting to you or not, is up to you. Something you have to have to watch and enjoy this, is patience. And even then you may not feel you are "properly" rewarded for that in the end. But that is also something that will never be satisfying for everyone. No matter what route the movie decides to go, you'll have people who'll dislike the choice for whatever reasons. I for one thought this was the best possible way to ... depart.

Tension filled and really well played, not a minute too long either

Can we please stop with the over long shots of the hero trying to open the door as he barely reaches the door handle? And oxygen going to zero (2 x even in this film) and still surviving minutes after? Sfx is the only redeeming quality of this film.

Pretty solid film with a hilarious eyebrow raising ending.
redmondson-8126926 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film is basically an exploration into the existential horror of a slow, painful death alone in space. The main character makes every effort to ensure he survives long enough to be saved, risks his life multiple times doing so, and then at the end, when the rescue is right there, is basically like: "Oh nevermind, just help me make a quick phone call home and then I guess I'll just die." Right before that happens, he also decides to stare directly into the sun and blind himself for seemingly no reason.

Overall this had good acting, decent writing. But endings are difficult. Often writers and directors don't want to give viewers the fairy tale happy ending they're expecting, but when that's what you're building toward, and you're right there, and you decide to just illogically bail on that premise at the last second, that actually feels less creative and unoriginal than going with what the audience clearly wants.
