Extremely biased movie about Airbnb. They are showing people who rented out their houses, got them trashed and then went to complain to Airbnb like it was their fault.
I'm sorry, you rented out your daddy's brand new 600k apartment in London to a 21 year old without any reviews on New Years and he threw a party and trashed the place? And you're surprised?!? And then when the Airbnb actually offers to pay for the damages you complain that they offered 3k less than your estimated repair cost? Oh boy...
Different less expensive house, similar story, but on top of the mess he got his BANKSY PICTURE STOLEN! You leave an art piece from a world renown artist worth thousands in your Airbnb house and then act surprised when it disappears? And expect Airbnb to find it or refund you for it (which BTW they ended up doing)? What killed me was when he said that he had no idea how much it was worth until it got stolen...SERIOUSLY???
And the website with whooping 400 horror stories about Airbnb...WOW! 2,000,000 Airbnbs across the world being rented out on a daily basis and only 400 horror stories? That's a pretty damn good advertising if you ask me.
Yeah I can understand the part where people are subletting the apartments illegally or against the house community laws and regulations, that needs to be dealt with.
But to cry that Airbnb is causing a real estate crysis in London? That's a lame excuse. Do some research and you'll find out that a 1% increase in Airbnb listings leads to a 0.018% increase in rents and a 0.026% increase in house prices. Yeah that's devastating! People are crying that they can't afford to live in London because of Airbnb rising prices? If you can't afford it, find a place you can afford outside of Londond!
Full disclosure - I don't use Airbnb. But when I see people blaming their stupidity on a company that is trying to make world a better place by allowing common people to make some money that would otherwise go to large corporations owning overpriced hotels, it frustrates me.
