‘Kaansya’ Will Screen at the Cinevesture International Film Festival

Mumbai, 18th March 2025: ‘Kaansya’ – an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘Troilus and Cressida’, reimagined within Haryana’s traditional wrestling community, is set to be screened at the Cinevesture International Film Festival in Chandigarh on the 20th and 22nd of March.

Directed by debut filmmaker Aditya Watts, ‘Kaansya’ (which translates to ‘bronzed’ in English) tells the story of Sonam, the wife of a respected akhada owner, who elopes with Randeep, the son of a rival family. Their forbidden love rekindles long-standing feuds, drawing both families into a devastating conflict.

The film stars Vaarun Bhagat (Inside Edge), Lakshya Goel (‘Trial by Fire’), Kritika Pande (The Song of Scorpions) and Saahhil Sethi (Life Hill Gayi) among others, in pivotal roles.

Amazon MGM Studios is bringing its festival circuit hit “Superboys of Malegaon” to theaters.

The Indian film, which gained acclaim at the Toronto, London, Palm Springs and Red Sea fests in 2024, will see a multi-territory release across India, U.S., U.K., U.A.E., Australia and New Zealand before landing on Prime Video.

Helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Reema Kagti and penned by Varun Grover, the pic tells the true story of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from the small Maharashtra town of Malegaon. The narrative follows Shaikh’s journey as he rallies his friends to create homegrown cinema for their community, offering a glimpse into how grassroots filmmaking can transform a small town’s spirit.

Gupta is known for roles such as in Prime Video series Four More Shots Please, the first series out of Indian with an all-female protagonist line-up. Dubbed ‘the desi Sex and the City‘ by Indian press, the show follows four young women in millennial Mumbai.

She also starred in Inside Edge, Prime Video’s first Hindi-language original. The cricket drama was released back in 2017 and starred the likes of Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha and Tanuj Virwani.

Prime Video has big plans for the Southeast Asia region, including the introduction of channels and an expanded local-language content slate, the streamer’s Vice President, Asia Pacific, Gaurav Gandhi, told the Apos conference today.

Prime Video’s upcoming crime thriller “Bambai Meri Jaan” tells an action-packed tale of good vs. evil in post-independence India — but at its core, the show is a story about family.

Premiering Sept. 14 on the streamer, the 10-episode series was created by Rensil D’Silva (“Dial 100”) and Shujaat Saudagar (“The Underbug”), based on a story by longtime crime journalist S. Hussain Zaidi. Exclusive: Karan Anshuman and Suparn Varma, two of the first writers, directors and showrunners to move into India’s web series space, have co-directed Rana Naidu, Netflix’s Indian remake of Ray Donovan, produced by Sunder Aaron’s Locomotive Global. The Hindi-language show starts streaming worldwide from this Friday (March 10).

Anshuman is the showrunner on the series and co-directs with Varma. The cast is headed by two major stars of the Telugu-language film industry – Rana Daggubati and his uncle Venkatesh Daggubati – who appear on screen together for the first time, playing the warring father and son played by Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight in the original Showtime series.

Although initially resistant to the idea of doing a remake, Anshuman says he changed his mind after watching the original show, which ran for seven seasons and a movie. “What struck me is how families are integral to the story, and that obviously has relevance in India.

Actor Amit Sial, who rose to fame with his portrayal of Devender Mishra in ‘Inside Edge’ and was also seen in ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Jamtara’, ‘Maharani’, and the recently-released ‘Kathmandu Connection S2’, is now aiming to explore romance and comedy.

The actor opened up about the kind of roles he is looking forward to, saying, “I have been playing intense roles for quite some time now. I want people to wake up to the bundles of romance and comedy willing to explode out of me.”

He added that though he has certain preferences, he is willing to be part of different genres.

“I do have a couple of films in my kitty where I explore these genres. I am eagerly awaiting their release sometime soon this year. Moreover, I must insist upon my capability and willingness to explore any genre under the sun,” Amit concluded.

Vaarun Bhagat, who is known for his role in ‘Undekhi’, ‘Inside Edge’ and many more, shares his experience of being part of the series ‘Aar Ya Paar’, created by Sidharth Sagar.

Vaarun shared: “It is such a unique story, and it is so well written that I just knew that I had to do it, and I am sure it will give the audiences something new to watch. I had the opportunity to do something different this time. I trusted Sidharth Sir, he is a brilliant writer and showrunner. I just wanted to be a part of his world, and now I can’t wait for the audience to just immerse themselves in this world.”

He added: “I had a wonderful time shooting this series. It has an extremely talented cast. It was a joy working alongside wonderful actors like Shilpa Shukla, Ashish Vidyarthi, it was just a great experience.

‘Sacred Games’ actor Luke Kenny shared how he prepared to play the role of a visually challenged character in the web series ‘Dharavi Bank’.

He said: “For Dharavi Bank’s Michael, I underwent one of the most difficult and complicated preparations. You know when one of your senses is blocked, you take some time to work around with the rest of them. But the credit for my performance goes to Hemendra Singh, who was immensely instrumental in guiding me through this preparation. He is associated with an organisation working for blind people.”

Actor Manuj Sharma, who was recently seen in Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Vikram Vedha’, is gearing up for release of ‘Phone Bhoot’, where for the first time he has used prosthetics to suit his part in the film.

‘Maharani 2’ actor Amit Sial revealed how megastar Amitabh Bachchan became his inspiration and recalled injuring himself while following his stunts.

Amit said: “They are still larger than life, only the presenting process is changed now. Once, I ended up breaking my leg because of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.”

“I was inspired by him as he used to jump from the 25th floor and land perfectly. When I was around 7 or 8 years old, I tried it one day and jumped with my cousin and we broke our knees. I was like, ‘If Amitabhji can do it I can do it too’.”
