    Cry Wilderness

    Cry Wilderness

Unlike many movies pounced on by the MST3K writers, this gem probably can't be viewed without the Satellite Of Love family goofing on it. The film is just too awful... and not in a good way!

Cry Wilderness (1987) follows the adventures of a young boy, Paul Cooper, who gets a vision from old pal Bigfoot while he's at boarding school. His father is in danger so the lad bunks off and makes his way home to warn him. This misunderstood yeti loves Coka Cola and listening to rock and roll on his transistor radio. These radio batteries last forever, too, so when are they coming to my phone, eh?

The biggest gaff here (and there are so many to choose from) is the instantaneous switches of locales. One minute they're in a forest, the next on a snowy mountain top, then by a lake and then in a disused mining factory and even on a flat open plain which is next to a dense forest. It's like a jigsaw puzzle that an impatient child has forced together without regard to the shape or color of the pieces.

The gags and references come thick and fast in the second episode of the reboot of cult fave Mystery Science Theater 3000. So thick and fast in fact, that it'll be several viewings before you are done with it. Unlike the slow start to the first episode (Reptilicus), the crew on the SofL dive straight into the riffing and don't come up for air till the credits roll by.

If you are a fan of the original series, you'll have no trouble getting used to the minor changes and enjoying the widescreen shenanigans of new host Jonah and the bots. Joel Hodgson's fingerprints are everywhere in this reboot even though he doesn't appear on screen.

My favorite gag: "I mean empty!" (It's about halfway in when the crew arrives at the animal sanctuary. You'll know it when it happens!)

MST3K at it's finest... except wider!
