Great episode
tyetye-5742828 July 2017
Fear the walking dead has just had its best half of a season yet. It featured great drama and acting. It had a good story and much action. The mid season finale had shocking moments, good action, and very intense. Most definitely recommend this show to everyone. People should give this show a chance and not just watch it's predecessor, The Walking Dead. Great first half of the season!

Warning: Spoilers
3x8 Rating: 8.6/10

Storyline: In a flashback, Ofelia crosses the border into the U. S. and makes her way through the desert. A spray of bullets lands around her as an unseen assailant shoots at her. She hides behind a tree, but the shooter finds her. It's Jeremiah.

Jeremiah brings Ofelia to his truck and interrogates her. Ofelia asks for a ride, but Jeremiah says that "brown people" are not welcome at his home. She spits at him. He drives off.

Ofelia wanders through the desert and collapses, near death. She hallucinates and sees her father and Jeremiah rescuing her. Walker discovers her in this state. He gives her water and brings her to the Black Hat.

Walker examines Ofelia, bathes her and offers her food.

Back in the present, Madison chases Ofelia as she tries to escape the ranch. She punches and interrogates her for answers.

The next day, ranchers load dead bodies onto a truck. Jake and Alicia tend to the sick, which includes Nick. Madison informs everyone that Ofelia poisoned the militia's coffee.

Madison holds Ofelia at gunpoint and forces her to drive to the Black Hat. Ofelia insists that the powder was only supposed to make the militia sick so that Walker's people could take over the ranch without bloodshed.

Madison brings Ofelia to Walker and demands to know what the poison was. He tells her that the poison was anthrax but says that Nick will survive if he's able-bodied. He warns that she and her family will die if they don't leave the ranch.

Strand scavenges for food. He looks out a window and sees a sight to brighten his spirits: the Abigail, run aground.

Strand wades into the water and boards the Abigail. Infected roam throughout the boat. Strand kills all infected with a spear gun, knife and gun.

Madison tells Jake that the poison was anthrax and that those who don't die will be too weak to resist an attack. Jake orders Troy to gather the remaining militia, but Troy is the only one left. Madison suggests they recruit the ranchers but Jake tells her she doesn't lead the ranch.

Jake eventually agrees with Madison's plan to fight and instructs Troy to arm anyone who isn't sick. Alicia suggests they try to negotiate with Walker again. Jake points out that they have no leverage to broker a deal. Alicia hatches a plan.

Strand finds a bottle of champagne on the Abigail. He goes to the upper deck, gets out a satellite phone and uncorks the bottle.

Nick convinces Jake to uncuff him from his cot, assuring Jake that he won't turn. As Nick goes to look for Jeremiah, Jake warns that Jeremiah has another side to him and Nick will end up disappointed.

Nick watches Jeremiah and several ranchers bury the dead in a mass grave.

Nick rips the floorboards of his adobe open.

Ofelia tells Walker that she cares about the Clark family and admonishes him for using anthrax without her knowledge. Walker maintains that she's saving the lives of his people. They're interrupted by a commotion outside.

The Nation rushes to extinguish a tipi fire started by Troy and a team of ranchers. As Troy's team distracts Walker's people, Madison and Alicia hitch the Black Hat reliquary to a truck and haul it off.

Nick digs a hole underneath the adobe floor. His shovel hits something hard.

Nick goes to Jeremiah's house and confronts him with a skull that he found under the adobe. Jeremiah confesses that as the rivalry between the ranchers and the Black Hat escalated, the founding fathers of the ranch murdered three Hopi tribesmen, including Walker's uncle. He says the skull belongs to Walker's father, who Jeremiah killed when the man started to investigate his brother's disappearance.

Madison and Alicia bring the reliquary back to the ranch. Walker follows with a host of soldiers.

Nick shows the skull to Madison and Alicia and relays the story he heard from Jeremiah. He also reveals to Alicia that Troy killed the Trimbols. Alicia accuses Madison of being heartless for standing with Troy despite the murder of Alicia's friend. Madison declares that she's too busy keeping everyone alive to have time for feelings.

Strand makes contact with a Russian cosmonaut who's stuck in space. The Russian tell Strand the rest of the world is infected.

Madison meets with Walker and offers to return the relics in exchange for peace and ownership of the ranch. She gives him the skull of his father. He rejects her terms and gives the remains back.

Madison informs her group that Walker still wants the ranch and is giving them until sundown the following day to vacate.

Strand gathers supplies then douses the Abigail in alcohol and lights it on fire. He starts to make his way north.

In the bunkhouse, Madison reveals to Nick and Alicia why she's never taken them to her hometown in Alabama. Madison shot her alcoholic father when she was a child because he beat her mother. She resolutely insists she would do it again if it meant protecting her family.

Madison goes to Jeremiah's house and explains to him that Walker is willing to offer peace in exchange for Jeremiah's scalp. She puts her gun on his desk and urges him to kill himself. Making it clear he does not care about Troy and Jake, Jeremiah refuses and challenges Madison to do it instead, passing the gun to her. As Madison prepares to do so, Nick enters the room and quickly does the task instead, shooting Jeremiah in the head. Madison quickly begins to put a plan into action.

Jake and Troy run to Jeremiah's house to find him dead, staged to look like a suicide by Madison and Nick. They remove Jeremiah's body from the house.

Madison walks up to Jeremiah's coffin in a barn.

Madison meets with Walker and places a backpack at his feet. He opens it and finds Jeremiah's head inside. He nods at Madison and walks away with the head.

The best!
guilhermeforcegui14 July 2017
I do not know what people have in mind to hate this episode ... It was great! The music in the end was all good and this show is more and more attractive than The Walking Dead, but come on ... Madison's bow was flawless, construction of her as a possible villain was very well done and Nick is increasingly interesting as a hero. Alicia is turning against her mother and we can see that there will be a possible separation from the group again, but I did not see anything interesting about the character in this episode! Ofelia has already turned her coat on and we can understand why! I have high expectations for her and the "villain" Walker ... As for Strand, the talk on the boat and the fire scene was 10/10, but I do not know what to expect from the character ... Let's see what's coming! This series is wonderful.

Awesome

It's official. This show has surpassed the main Dead with this double feature. Everything was layered in such a way that you couldn't help but be awe inspired.

And to the person who hated this episode because of a remixed version of an awesome song, ecarpenter, terrible reason to hate it.

S3 is some of the best TV I've seen
atschertz6 August 2017
Okay people should give fear the walking dead a second chance. I didn't like the first season and the first half of the second so I stopped, but I picked it back up this week and oh my god the end of the second season it gets incredible. And I gotta say the first half of season three is some of the best television I've ever seen.

Good stuff
rich-106328 July 2017
I think FTWD is miles ahead of the original WD. The characters here are more believable and less comic bookish. My only complaint here is I thought the Jeremiah Otto character is not as multi-layered as it should have been. The *twist* ending here, if I can call it that, is fairly predictable. Old Man Otto is the politically incorrect character and he's gotta go...So the script is tilted to make his character's actions more morally reprehensible than that of Walker....On a side note, I did like the Stand By Me remake at the end unlike one of the reviewers...

Kim Dickens Shines In "Children Of Wrath"
lunasnowhehe10 June 2021
This is the episode we've been waiting for - the episode where we finally see Madison Clark becoming the lead she has always had the potential to be. This first half of 3A is PHENOMENAL. There's literally no complaints. Everything is perfect. The character development has been building up to this point and we finally see the potential of the Clarks and how intelligent this family really is.

Incredible storytelling, a mid-season finale and episode you won't forget
Holt3442 October 2020
Andrew Bernstein directs the mid-season finale, the 8th episode of Fear's third season. The episode begins where episode 2.14 ended with Ofelia at gunpoint but as we know Jeremiah left her and she went to Walker. Who is the good guy and who is the bad guy? Jeremiah and Walker, neither are good and that's what I love with this season. It then shift back to where we left off in the previous episode, so Nick is still poisoned and a lot of others are too and a war have started. It continues to be suspenseful and dramatic, all realistic. The script and storytelling this season have been top notch as I've said before and it shows now when we are 8 episodes into season 3.

The twist have finally been revealed, there were a feud before the apocalypse as we learned in the previous episode of the bones Walker had in his trailer, they were indeed his kin. It's time to pick a side they say, but what is the right side? What is the right thing to do in a situation like that, the writers have done an incredible job at just that.

The cinematography, lightning and the overall camera work was amazing in this episode. The ominous and suspenseful musical score fits with the scenes so perfectly, the sound editing is as always fantastic. Some of the best acting performances has to go to Kim Dickens in this episode, she rocks and it's mostly because of her job as Madison Clark but honestly it's because of the writing team. Madison isn't supposed to be a likeable character, the opposite as she is clearly turning into an anti-hero. What this show does well is its unpredictable nature of writing, it began with Travis' death, something that I remember upset a lot of fans me included but after re-watching the show I have to say they are geniuses... Incredible storytelling and so was the big twist at the end of this episode.

The best midseason finally of the whole series

Warning: Spoilers

War or No War?
panagiotis199319 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We should have seen what happened to Ofelia in the desert episodes ago. The way Otto talked to her and left her to die, I don't blame her for hating him. Also the scene with her having hallucinations with Daniel talking to her was intense. The way Walker saved her, she definitely needs to repay that debt. So Ofelia poisoned the soldiers with anthrax? Wow that's evil. Finally Victor is back and he found Abigail? Now that's interesting. Can't wait to see what Victor does next. Im wondering where Daniel is though. Madison shares a really tragic family story. Wow they killed Otto? That's insane! But will Otto's death really prevent the war? Decent episode, my rating is 7.3/10.

The episode advances the plot significantly and also provides profound insights into the characters' psyches, particularly Madison's, whose dark past becomes a focal point
fernandoschiavi16 April 2024
In a flashback, Ofelia is left in the desert by Jeremiah following their first encounter and nearly dead until Walker rescues and nurses her back to health.

Madison takes Ofelia to Black Hat where Walker reveals the poison was anthrax which Ofelia did not know it was. Walker encourages Madison to leave as it is not her fight. Nick discovers Jeremiah killed Walker's father and other tribe members. Madison decides to have Jeremiah kill himself to appease Walker, but the old man is too hateful to give his foe satisfaction. Nick pulls the trigger, killing him. They stage the suicide and Madison delivers Jeremiah's head to Walker.

Meanwhile, Strand finds the "Abigail" run aground and contacts a Russian cosmonaut in space who tells him the Walker problem is everywhere and that his life is not over. Strand sets the yacht on fire and leaves.

"Children of Wrath," the eighth episode of the third season of "Fear the Walking Dead," is a stark, gripping culmination of the first half of the season that delves deeply into betrayal, vengeance, and the devastating consequences of both. The episode not only advances the plot significantly but also provides profound insights into the characters' psyches, particularly Madison's, whose dark past becomes a focal point.

The episode opens with a flashback that sheds light on Madison's background, explaining her ruthless survival instinct and protective nature towards her children. This backstory is critical as it parallels the present-day events where Madison must again make harsh decisions to protect her family. In the current timeline, the brewing conflict between the Broke Jaw Ranch and Walker's tribe escalates dramatically, leading to a harrowing series of events spurred by Madison's actions.

A key scene involves the use of biological warfare - a potent symbol of how far Madison is willing to go. This act of aggression against Walker's group by poisoning their water supply marks a turning point in the show, highlighting the moral decay and desperation that have set in among the characters. The cinematography and pacing during these scenes are particularly effective, creating a tense atmosphere that keeps viewers on edge.

As the episode progresses, the consequences of Madison's decisions begin to unfold, illustrating the theme that every action in this brutal new world has a ripple effect. The internal conflicts at the ranch, coupled with external threats, push characters to their limits. This is especially evident in the climax, where loyalties are tested and the fragile alliance at the ranch begins to crumble. Alicia's growing disillusionment with her mother's methods adds another layer of tension, suggesting potential internal conflicts in future episodes.

Predictable Woke claptrap
trvwatson27 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't surprised where this episode decided to go with it's twist, in fact i knew it was coming the moment they introduced the characters Walker and Otto a few episodes back.

I knew i was in for yet another daily dose of Woke claptrap . Otto being the main white dominant male was never going to go well for him , he was made to be a racist tyrant, so he had to go.

Walker was always going to be revealed as the victim, yet he loves de-scalping people to death who get in his way. And not forgetting the Empowered female box tick went to Madison for owning both of them.

It's not that i am against rights and wrongs, it's just that the level of cheap sentimental woke messages can sometimes seem a bit contrived and patronising, and that's why for me it completely destroyed my enjoyment of most of season 3 in general. It's all just a little forced and phony. And doesn't really do much to send out the right message, for which it is intended to do.

A boost in the series
Froggys727223 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The progress of the show is remarkable, season 3 is standing out a lot over the previous ones and gives a relief to the viewer to continue watching.

I don't expect the final so much, it was good but maybe I think I would have liked to hear what Jeremiah's sons are planning to do and the effect on the people who lives in the ranch with the death of the last fundator.

Also the acting of Kim Dickens was acceptable.

Horrendous remake of Stand By Me
ecarpenter7810 July 2017
When I heard the awful bloodcurdling indescribably grotesque remake of Stand by Me I forgot everything what happened in the episode and had to mute the TV in fear that my ears would start to bleed. If I was able to identify the significance of the song in regards to the montage or the show, I would be less critical but I cannot believe that was the only cover of the song or that it was the best option but to my opinion regarding music means nothing. I gave the episode a low rating because the utter horror of hearing that song wiped every previous scene from my mind
