It's the best movie set in a frat house recorded on an iPhone 5 ever made.

A non-scary haunting
TheLittleSongbird13 November 2018
Part of me was semi-intrigued, being someone who is no stranger to horror films (really appreciate the genre too, despite what some of my previous reviews have implied), and the idea interested me somewhat despite being ridiculous. A large part of me was apprehensive though, having heard it was not good and that it looked like one of those cheap and overdone films with a muddled tone.
Which, when watching it, was what 'Haunting on Fraternity Row' essentially was, cheap and overdone with nothing interesting or scary. It is not just not a good film, it's an intelligence insulting waste of time. If it was trying to entertain, scare or both, 'Haunting on Fraternity Row' failed abysmally on both counts, making the film a terrible chore to sit through. Am not hating or trying to be malicious, it is just my genuine stance on a film that didn't do anything for me as well as many others
From beginning to end the acting, from particularly the leads, is both overplayed and stiff. In all fairness they were hindered by hammy direction, constantly awkward and limp dialogue and that the film has no interesting or likeable character whatsoever.
Script is childish, flabby and even improvisatory-sounding. The story is not much of one and takes forever to get going, when it finally does it is not for long and it is too late to care. It also over-emphasises the stereotypical teenage drama too much, which is a big problems with the characters being so irritating and in some cases personality deprived.
Unfortunately, any attempts at levity are completely witless, childish and so overdone it gets exhausting. The horror elements are a long way from tense or suspenseful, generating little interest even, the lack of scary atmosphere due to being so predictable and cheap-looking makes this haunting a very bland one. The kills were not creative and would go as far to say they were too tame, while the things there to by the film's definition "spice things up" came over as gratuitous and abused.
'Haunting on Fraternity Row' is a cheap looking film that even makes the scenery look tacky. Especially the photography, am too convinced that the film was made on a cheaper budget than has been cited here. The sound is obvious and intrusive.
Overall, terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Don't Waste Your Time

Horror moments don't really happen until the last 20 minutes of the movie. Most of the Movie is shots of the frat party and a few couples they want us to care about. Absolute trash of a movie. With the most anticlimactic ending. Just terrible.
Oh what could have been

A great movie, but it wasn't. Surprisingly not a lot of nudity for this genre. Slow starting with pointless character setups. All the 30 something teenagers should really act in roles for their age, we're not that stupid. Once the killing begins, the movie is watchable. Monster effects, were... ok. Watchable, sure, memorable, nope.
All things considered, Pretty good

Your basic first person filming low budget horror movie. There were a couple of good scares, a few boobs, rock solid abs, drunken college students, and an all star cast of C+ actors. The perfect storm for a scary movie so bad, it's good.
Better than I expected at least.

With a title like this it feels like the movie has little hope of being anything but a dumb, lowest common denominator fear flick. This isn't that. Honestly, it kind of felt like Scream 2 by way of James Wan.
In this movie a group of frat bros are throwing a giant, end of the year Luau party and are immediately expelled for cultural appropriation.
Just kidding, this isn't a documentary although it is a found footage movie and the gimmick here isn't as obtrusive as it can be.
The guys unwittingly unlock an ancient evil hidden beneath the house which begins to wreak havoc during the massive, and I do mean massive party. The plot is pretty straight forward and the acting and characterization are surprisingly solid. There is a fair amount of humor that's totally organic to the situation and a little nudity both male and female.
The CGI isn't great but I've seen worse. The big problem is that it just takes way too long to become a horror movie. With the exception of a few quick jump scares, almost all the horror is saved for the last 20 mins of a movie that is actually over 90 mins. I clearly remember checking the clock at the hour mark and thinking this thing really needs to get started soon. And it did and the finale is a strong, chaotic set piece with a higher, and less predictable body count than you'd think.
This movie really isn't half bad and I suggest paying to see it, supporting the creators, and checking out whatever comes next from them because with a little improvement, they might make something really worthwhile next time.

There's raving, bad acting and then more raving

This movie isn't much of a horror but more of a music video thrown in with some bad acting. The horror really own kicks off in the last 25 minutes if you managed to watch on that long you will be disappointed. The horror parts its self wouldn't be all that bad but the ending is shocking and makes no sense. It feels like some one wanted to make a rave music video but was contracted to the horror genre. Truly it is frustrating this film is.
Wow

You can tell this was written by old men. No character is like a real person...you're just waiting for them to die and then it's all in the last ten mins of the movie. So many awkward scenes of sexism and human indecency...there's literally more boobs than scares. And the ending doesn't even make sense...
This was rough.

I had a hard time getting through this movie; it was long and boring, with several plotlines running between characters. All of them do come true or whatever, but I found I didn't care an awful lot about any of the characters, but seeing them die was also very dull. I've seen a lot of bad horror movies, and this was one of the worst! I had hopes it would at least be a fun one.
Ugh. Horror-bell

IMDB sez the budget for this clinker was $5mil. NO WAY. Maybe $5K. It's filmed with a shaky hand cam and no known actors, so everyone is working for free or scale.
The women are skanky. They couldn't even get some hotties to take their clothes off.
The house this is filmed in looks like a 1920s Silver Lake home that Laurel & Hardy used in their late silent/early sound films.
The special effects are the absolute worst you will ever see. Worse than Ed Wood.
It's all been done before -- and better.

One thing for start, this is a visuall color climax, and thats it.2 stars for that.
its a teenage movie with a bunch of silly brats making a heck of a party in a haunted house. the way the verbal vomit are presented is at the age of 3.its bongs, dildos, mobilephones, costumes, jealousy, booz, beer, brawling, blood, gore and fighting .the lack of storyline give you the impression of one thought- direct to video .the haunting spirits of the house mustve mixed in muscarine in the beweage, and the director, mustve had some too.not recomended
Not a horrible movie. It has its moments

Ok, first off, I love found footage movies, and so I have a soft spot for the genre.
Second, this is not a horrible movie. It is not great, but it is not as bad as all of the reviews make it out to be.
Decent plot. Amazingly beautiful women. Handsome guys. Not great dialogue, but better than many of the FF I have seen. Some funny scenes though.
WTF

So I'm watching a horror flick called The Haunting of Fraternity Row, and honestly, this is usually the kind of movie that sucks, in fact the reviews all say it sucks, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's actually not bad. First of all, some really unique and original script elements, so the usual frat party, hot girl shenanigans becomes less total crap and more smart elements that get you off balanced... the whole movie is kind of a rollercoaster ride manipulating the audience... I would say check this one out... now I'm only 58 minutes in and the whole thing is an hour and 38, but so far so good. A lot of 1 star reviews and one 6/10 that says it's surprisingly better than expected, so now you have two people saying that. Take from what you will, but I am kinda digging it.
Visually entertaining but that's all

So this movie was bad. Like really bad.
But... I enjoyed it. The acting was terrible, the creature effects were bad, the characters were almost all totally unlikeable. This was basically an hour of party montage shots and then like 20 minutes of... spoopy?
Pretty hilarious fail of a movie. Maybe that's what they were going for (if so, mission accomplished). If you like watching stupid horror movies for the laughs, then give it a go. I had a fun time watching it. But I'll probably never watch it again lol

So the fraternity invites a bunch of sorority girls over to setup for the frats last LUAU! This should be a real skin fest. Lots of booze. Altho why they would be hazing pledges at what they say is their last party? That really made little sense.
The first hour of the movie is them setting up the party and the party stats. And a scene finally gets good when dude starts out with a coke fueled threesome, but then he sees a spirit face and that scene ends! No skin when it should have had some!!!
Anyways that first hour the acting really isn't that bad. Everyone seemed natural which is rare for this type of movie. Lots of grinding and music and a few brief skin shots follow. And finally a real shot near the end when the mad killing starts!
And then, the killing, and some bizarre attempt at the end to explain what is happening. And then the movie ends just how it began. No real explanation, just confusion. 3/10.

It has the essential ingredients to make a good frat/sorority style movie, some good acting & stylish cinematography good music and a few laughs its not a bad film but for horror originality or quality it falls badly towards the latter stages of the film which is a shame as it started very promising. 6/10

If you're expecting Paranormal Activities or Hereditary or a "serious" type horror then you probably won't like it. If you want to watch a movie like American pie or Neighbors with some fun spooky stuff for good times then you'll probably like it.
