As fall creeps closer, major studios have to plan out their next steps if writers and actors continue to strike. At this point it’s already impossible for the fall production schedule to move forward normally, even if the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) went back to work today.
Some outlets, like Paramount Global have already announced they’ll use reruns of streaming and older network shows to fill in programming gaps this fall. New data from Civic Science is showing that viewers could respond to such tactics, at least initially.

Sometime in the next few months, the long-awaited/dreaded union of HBO Max with Discovery+ is set to begin. One of the many questions that subscribers of both Warner Bros. Discovery services have had as that day approaches is how much of a price hike the new streamer will have. And as it turns out? It won’t have one at all, Bloomberg reports.
According to Bloomberg, Warner Bros. Discovery will keep the advertising-supported tier of the new service at its current price of $10, while the ad-free premium version will cost $15-$16 per month; it used to cost $15.99, after the service made its first price increase this past January. The company instead plans to sell a new subscription that offers higher video quality and other possible features to consumers for a marked-up price of roughly $20 dollars per month.
IndieWire has reached out to representatives of Warner. Bros Discovery for comment.

The ratings for ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” farewell episode for Ellen Pompeo’s titular doctor last Thursday were steady compared with the ABC procedural’s winter finale in November in both viewership and the advertiser-coveted 18-49 key demographic, according to live plus same-day Nielsen ratings data.
After 19 seasons and more than 400 episodes, Meredith Grey performed her last surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial, though the midseason premiere episode left plenty of hanging threads and Pompeo is already set to return for the season finale. Debuting at 9 p.m. after the midseason premiere of “Station 19,” the medical drama averaged 0.49 in the demographic and 3.6 million viewers. That was fairly similar to the ratings for its midseason finale Nov. 17, which drew 0.51 in ratings and 3.7 million average watchers. Prior to the winter finale, “Grey’s” nabbed nearly identical figures of 0.5 in the demo and a viewership of 3.7 million for the Nov. 10 episode.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” led all programs at this year’s virtual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, with two nods — for best competition series and best ensemble cast in an unscripted series. But the real surprise, as the awards were announced Monday via press release, was the sheer number of ties in top categories.
VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” tied with Netflix’s “The Great British Baking Show” (Netflix) for competition series, while “The Masked Singer” (Fox) and “The Voice” (NBC) tied for competition series: talent/variety, and “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” (Food Network) and “The Oprah Conversation” (Apple TV Plus) tied for structured series.
In the fan voted categories, Netflix’s “Somebody Feed Phil” host Phil Rosenthal was named male star of the year, while Sandra Lee of TLC’s “Dr. Pimple Popper” (TLC) was named female star of the year. Alex Trebek was honored posthumously with this year’s Impact Award,...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” won two awards to top all programs in the third annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, the Critics Choice Association and the nonfiction producers organization Npact announced on Monday.
For the third consecutive year, “RuPaul” was named the year’s best competition series, although for the first time it shared the prize with another series, “The Great British Baking Show.” The Critics Choice Association, which is made up of television, radio and internet critics and journalists, is known for a surprisingly large number of ties in its awards shows, and its 2021 winners included deadlocks in three key categories: “RuPaul” and “Gbbs” in Best Competition Series, “The Masked Singer” and “The Voice” in Best Competition Series: Talent/Variety and “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and “The Oprah Conversation” in Best Structured Series.
“RuPaul’s” second award, for Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series, made it the only program with more than one win.

TLC’s Howard Lee has said that more spin-offs are in the works for ratings juggernaut “90 Day Fiancé.”
The show, produced by Sharp Entertainment, began airing in 2014 and has spawned nine spin-offs, including “Before the 90 Days,” “The Other Way,” “What Now?,” “Pillow Talk,” “The Family Chantel,” the Covid-19 themed “Self-Quarantined,” “Happily Ever After,” “B90 Strikes Back!” and most recently, “Darcey and Stacey.”
One or two more spinoffs are in the works, said Lee, speaking as part of the Edinburgh TV Festival this week. “We listened to the audience, and it is very important to us that we don’t just create a spinoff or a sequel or something else, that’s just for the sake of doing it,” said Lee, president and general manager of the Discovery-owned channel. “We want to make sure that we are not just ripping ourselves off franchise after franchise. There is always a need when we start something new.
