Innocent? is Matt Kwiatkowski's 4th film to produce and direct. It is his 9th film to be involved with since 2001 as an actor.
Innocent? is the sixth collaboration with screenwriter/actor/director Josiah Johnson. Other films are The Woodland's Creature (2001), Pawn of Deception (2002), Invasion (2004), Intentional (2007) and Withdrawal (2009).
On location gave the director and crew the right elements/feel for each unique scene for Innocent? From the old Cheboygan jail, City Hall roof sequence, the interrogation scenes take place in the ACTUAL public safety interrogation room, the restaurants etc. The police uniform worn by Josiah Johnson, Dan Kwiatkowski and Paul Zalewski is the SAME uniform all three had to share and belongs to the Michigan State police dept.
The first day of filming production, began with interior shots of the Rusty Anchor restaurant in 2011. After filming wrapped up in 2013, financial disputes took place between the owners/management and the name of the building was changed to The Boathouse restaurant.
Matt Kwiatkowski had to re-shoot the outside of the building w/new sign name and make changes to the ADR that was already recorded.
For the flashback scene, where Duncan King was drinking and driving. The speed he was driving while hitting a Huge mud puddle filled hole in the middle of the road, caused the back drivers side hubcap to fly off while he kept driving. Because this was done with one take and the realism of the angle/situation, Matt kept the camera going and used it for the FINAL cut of the film.
