One sided not even pretending to take middle ground
abplato22 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The propaganda unleashed in this pic relies solely on the gullibility of the average American. Further it manufactures "facts" that in no way impinge on the real world, in that:

1. The FBI reports approximately 900 homicides each year (this figure jumped noticeably to its current rate in the 1970's and 1980's following the increase in the availability of illegal drugs but has stayed remarkably unchanged despite the various "anti-gun laws" since that time.

2. Of the 900 Homicides reported by the FBI each year only about three-hundred involve firearms (which numbers also include rifles and shotguns), so the reality is less than 200 homicides are handgun related in the US. This means that the other 600 odd homicides each year are NOT committed with any gun whatsoever--what are these deaths caused by you ask... The answer is a simple matter of common sense, i.e., the weapon of choice is ALWAYS whatever blunt object is available at hand, nearly always a baseball bat or hammer or other similar "weapon." NOT GUNS.

3. Of course if the makers of this film were interested in the truth, heaven forbid, they would also relate two other important facts:

a. The FBI reports that the average criminal commits 300 crimes on average each year and with over one-million in jail population and another one-million out on bail, on work-furlough or simply released due to overcrowding; the number of daily crimes in the US is truly shocking, so the real question is why aren't their more gun-related deaths in the US, the answer will shock you...

b. If you talk to police chiefs every day of the week like I do they have a simple reason for so little violence despite the number of guns--the truth that any sheriff or Police Chief will tell you is that their own deputies and officers are told by the potential victims that the bad guys were frightened away by, of all things, an ordinary citizen with a gun and the will to use it to defend a friend, a neighbor or even a complete stranger. This number is truly astounding and nearly unbelievable--especially if you believe all the anti-gun propaganda.

c. The actual number, which is fairly consistent and fairly reliable is that approximately 30,000 lives are saved each year BECAUSE of guns. These numbers, however, never get reported for one simple reason, i.e., people do not report no-crime. Further, the police have no system for reporting a crime that never happened--if a criminal makes the mistake of picking a victim in the vicinity of one or more armed civilians the crook, quite wisely, goes elsewhere, ergo no victim and no crime. And, of course, no report. So the truth is that a great many experts know of the tremendous advantage an armed victim has over an unarmed one. But of course we are never asked for these facts--it doesn't sell air-time and how would Hollywood make a movie where no one is hurt and no crime committed.

So, we see, it isn't the gun makers who benefit from selling guns it's the Billion dollar movie and TV companies who actually benefit from all the fairy tails they generate every day to make a buck, sell their notions of right and wrong and in so doing create victims out of the poor folks who believe what these fear merchants preach.

The Reefer Madness of the 21st Century
bigredone-2468822 July 2018
A fear mongering, misleading at best, waste of time documentary in the spirit of Supersized in terms of factual information. For a first class study on manipulation and taking advantage of people emotions, watch this.

A masterclass on to use statistics to say anything that you want them to say.

What the NRA doesn't want you to know
kayebreeman7 October 2016
Fortunately, this film's main victory, besides offering potential solutions to our current gun violence epidemic, is that it exposes the NRA as a lobbying organization that is predominantly funded by the gun companies. Very similar to Big Tobacco. Remember how tobacco lobbyists spent huge amounts of money to cover up studies that proved cigarettes were bad for you? How they encouraged pregnant women to smoke? With full knowledge of the true harm being caused, they lead the American public astray because there was just too much money at stake. Their greed surpassed their ethics and morality. The very same thing is happening here - and their tactics have only become more twisted and deceitful. If the NRA was actually acting in the interest of its members, why would it fight against universal background checks when 83% of gun owners support background checks? It just doesn't add up.

This film blends personal stories and intimate instances of gun violence with larger statistics and facts that give the bigger picture - this isn't just one person's struggle, but the reality of far too many Americans. The film pries into the true numbers of who is bankrolling the NRA and what lengths they are willing to go to in order to protect the profits of gun manufacturers. It is very important to watch this film so a glimpse of the truth can be seen through all of the media spin, slick commercials, and internet celebrities that appeal to your sense of independence, your fear, your need for safety, and turn those very things against you.

Ignore the Negative reviews by the NRA "reviewers"
jeffkatz5425 March 2018
This is an excellent, powerful film. When I first heard about it I do what I always do, which is to look up the reviews on IMDb. At first, I was struck by the 4.2 rating and thought, "this must be a bad film". Then I read the reviews. Read them yourself. Written by NRA supporters, they distort the reality of gun violence in America. This movie exposes, quite skillfully, the role of gun manufacturers in the murder of our children.

Any honest look at the role of guns the United States, shows irrefutable evidence that the United States is a complete outlier in the world. Guns are rampant and gun violence is rampant. Other countries that have reasonable gun control laws have less violence.

And within the United States, those states that have the most stringent gun laws have the lowest murder rates.

This is an excellent film that connects the dots between the National Rifle Association, which is nothing more than a propaganda arm for gun manufacturers, and the epidemic of gun violence that is destroying America.

I watched this movie on the evening of the "March for our Lives" in the wake of the Parkland murders in Florida. It is my fervent hope that everybody in America think seriously about how we can reduce gun violence and how we could nullify the power of the gun manufacturers. Quite simply, gun manufacturers literally choose their own personal wealth over the lives of their fellow citizens. Watch this movie. Watch dozens of parents describe the horror of burying their children. Than do anything you can to publicize this movie. Give it a 10 rating and ask your friends to watch.

If your goal is to brainwash the public to fear and hate guns then this was well done!
chris_tarn6 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This "documentary" is in line with Eric Holder's strategy to brain wash the public to fear and hate guns (don't believe me, watch him say it himself on C-Span - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIcSLhGvaTE )

The problem with brainwashing people to be dumb around firearms is that it ultimately leads to more injuries and deaths. Kind of like if we trained the next generation to fear and hate cars. It is however not a joke, this is happening right now in America today and the ignorant and misinformed are all for it. Don't let fools with an agenda brainwash you, because that is what this "documentary" aims to do. It reminds me of Katie Couric's recent documentary where she and her team did some "creative" editing when in discussion with a group. She is also now facing a law suit because she got caught (there was more than one recording device in the studio... ooops).

So I see the NRA and gun nuts have made sure to write a lot of negative comments. This movie is a must see, and provides substantiated facts.

Bloomberg funded?
choosingsilas20 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Like Moms Demand Action and Every town for Gun Safety, I feel like this was funded by an anti-gun political non-profit. This film goes through the entire spectrum of political talking points, from red flag laws, to the often debunked, "gun show loop hole", and can't forget to mention black rifle bad. This documentary is saturated with many statistics that are uncorroborated by the CDC or FBI. This is a hotly debated issue and the film fails to raise a factual and compelling argument to change the views mind.

Great Documentary
sdavis54834 December 2017
This is a well-made, factual documentary. One proof of that fact is the way NRA members are rating this down and trying to challenge its facts using non-factual insults. Now more than ever we need movies like this to show us the danger that radical groups like the NRA pose to our way of life.

Watch this show and judge for yourself; then spread it to all your friends.

Anti-gun Propaganda
mattvaughan-9519426 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was actually wanting to see a fair view from a central position with an unbiased opinion. However, this so-called "documentary" tells personal stories that tug on heart strings while giving misleading or false "facts". Using key anti-gun phrases and buzz words for the purposes of fear-mongering. And using clips of NRA spokespeople carefully edited to further their narrative or shown out of context. The "gun show loophole" doesn't exist. The clip they do show at the gun show is ILLEGAL. I couldn't even finish the film for the terrible fact checking from unnamed or unofficial sources.

A Provocative Film
sguinness-8520118 June 2017
Anyone concerned about gun violence and why it is so hard to get reasonable gun laws passed should watch this. There is a massive lobbying effort to distort the conversation about guns and gun violence. The biggest lie told to the American people is "Only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun." The rise of anti- government militias and gangs are fueled by lax or non-existent gun laws. Suicide by gun is an epidemic. The gun lobby does not want our politicians to talk about these issues and they silence them with massive cash donations.

Don't let the NRA nuts scare you
scooby09268123 January 2020
This is not an "anti-gun" documentary, it's a pro gun safety documentary. We'll never be without guns in America but damn, we could at least TRY to keep people safe. But then again...thoughts and prayers go such a long way...
