The Attitude of the Sons of Ragnar
claudio_carvalho9 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The journey of Floki continues and he reaches a waterfall where he makes a discovery. King Aethelwulf and Bishop Heahmund find a weak spot to attack York; however it is a trap plotted by the Northmen and they are defeated. Ubbe and Hvitserk wants to negotiate peace with the Saxons to farm the land against Ivar's will. They are betrayed and humiliated and Ivar wins the leadership of the Great Army. Ubbe decides to return to Kattegat. Meanwhile Astrid is imprisoned and changes her behavior toward Harald.

"Homeland" is an episode where the pointless journey of Floki continues. Astrid changes her behavior towards Harold and she probably is plotting a scheme to defeat her kidnapper. The battle in York has great action scenes and the humiliation of Ubbe and Hvitserk is predictable, but why the brothers were spared by Bishop Heahmund? He knows they are brave warriors so why keeping powerful and wounded enemies alive? The conclusion with the sons of Ragnar splitting was not expected. My vote is nine.

Title (Brazil): "Homeland"

Best episode in vikings since Ragnars demise
martymasta7 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'll be damned this was a FANTASTIC episode! We all knew that the attack on York would happen, and that most likely Ivar would have a plan, but DAMN, his plan was excellent! Ivar is asking for a sacrifice and thus brings in a slave, he then commands her to kiss him, but following that he is figuring out that his "manly parts" work! This is new to him and he then makes the slave a free woman, I do have a feeling that we will see her again in later episodes. Ivar is observing the battle at first, but eventually decides to join in, it doesn't take long before he is knocked down from his chariot, the saxon soldier underestimates Ivar's agility and pays the price. Ivar is in a trance or something when he is surrounded by the saxons, GREAT performance by Alex, absolutely stunning. We also see the tear between the brothers following the aftermath of the battle of York, becoming clearer with Ubbe leaving England. I am a bit uneasy with this, because I like both Ivar and Ubbe, I do not want them to fight each other. My only complaint is the apparent teleportation of Ivar's bodyguards at one point in the battle when we watch Heahmund cut down vikings, but these things happen ALL the time.

Just Wow!

I'm not gonna spoil it but I got actual goosebumps when Ivar was goading the Saxon army. This is an epic show and this is another 10 out of 10 episode!

After Ragnar this show lost it's soul

Warning: Spoilers
This show is becoming predictable and boring.

We have a big fight sure, but nothing exciting happens.

The lead actors all have plot armor and they can sit in the middle of the battlefield without wearing any helmelts or holding shields and no one will kill them.

People in full armor are dying around by arrows them but nope, no enemy even considers killing the plot armor starts from the both sides.

No one would go in a battle without wearing full armor and survive.

But plot armor keeps everyone safe and even when arrows struck them it's always at hand or at feet.

Vikings was so exciting with Ragnar .

Now it is another historical show like the rest.

As of this episode I'm done

Warning: Spoilers
Clearly the success of Vikings to date was Travis Fimmel. And now he is very very gone. The writing, the directing has all lost its center. And its dynamic. The gruesome battle scene at York checked all the boxes and that was the problem. The viewer could SEE the boxes being checked. The spikes through soldiers eyes, and mouths. The horror and squelch of their bodies as their king steps on them to get past the spikes. Horror . . . for its own sake. To entertain. Because that's all the series has now to keep us in it. Gruesomeness.

I wish Ivar was enough. And with better writing and directing, he could be. But the camera hovered WAY too long on his mad, blood-drenched face as he faced down the Saxon soldiers. Just horrible directing and timing.

And Floki. But even Floki without his 'face' is without power to hold us.

Its gone. I was willing for it to continue without Ragnar and, of course it will. But without me. For me, it has lost its power. It's boring and obvious.

Nothin new, nothing suprising.

Warning: Spoilers
It was not good at all. I mean they show us things we've seen before several times. Nothing new. Nothing surprising. I was bored while I was watching the battle scene. And Ivar... he is a negative character, which is good. But he could have died at least three times in this episode. To be honest I really don't understand why the soldier didn't blow his brain. Because he was laughing? Make sense... I don't know... I'm disappointed. After Ragnar's death the only good thing was the revenge. I hope it'll be better.

No surprise, nothing new, plans that are so obvious that a 3 years old would not fall into them... Vikings lost almost all its interest....

5 minutes

Warning: Spoilers
5 minutes staring at crazy Ivar on the ground with blood on his face back and forth with the enemy laughing and looking at the bishop. He could have died several times but was never killed. The director or writers during the episode failed in this scene. We understand he is the villain here and also the one we should feel sorry for. We don't need to watch him get shot with an arrow at an angle that didn't even make sense either. Ivar is losing interest for me because it's becoming so unbelievable that everyone is siding with this lunatic. I don't understand how this episode made the editing room floor and was left the way it was. Floki also is losing interest to me. Without his eye makeup he just is any other person on a search to find the meaning of life. I also can't stand how the bishop and Ivar have these incredibly complex haircuts. So unrealistic for the time. The bishop has a fade and styled hair with product! I didn't know mechanical buzz cutters were around back then. I don't even work in hair styling and I can tell the hair and makeup department took several liberties with these hair styles. His character is also so irritating as nobody would believe a catholic bishop would look or behave like that. As soon as I saw him we said "he is way too attractive to not be a main character".... But that's what is bugging me about the show now. They only cast people like that for recurring roles and characters almost die 30 times over. They're all like cats with 9 lives. All around this awesome show is just becoming more and more disappointing and this episode is proof of that.
