STAY OUT STAY ALIVE depicts the struggle of human nature and the curse of insatiable greed, and poses the questions "What would YOU risk - what would YOU sacrifice - for unimaginable wealth?" After an earthquake plummets Donna - one of the hikers - down a mine shaft where she is pinned under a rock, the group must choose between saving their friend or taking their time to unlawfully mine the forbidden gold for themselves. As the group degenerates into conflict, a ghostly remnant of the mine's past ratchets up the horror of the unfolding events.—Brainstorm Motion Pictures
- A group of friends, three females and two males, go camping. After setting up the tents and celebrating, one of the females decides that she wants to be alone for a while and goes hiking by herself at night. The next day, the rest of them, worried because her tent shows no signs of her sleeping there, decides to go hiking to search for her. They find her on an abandoned mine, with her foot trapped under a stone. They try to save her, but the founding of a gold vein makes them wait until asking for help, so they can get all the gold they can. She accepts to spend some days there waiting for the rest to extract all the gold they can, so they move the camp again to be closer to the gold mine.
Almost every one of them at a given point starts to having visions on the inside of the mine, what makes them think it could be haunted. They find a book that the girl trapped try to clean of dust and mud, so she can have a guess of who or what could have happened there, if anything happened. Later, they start to fight about the gold, some of them think that what they have is enough while there is one of them who thinks that they could extract more.
A little before that, a police woman shows up because the group said to her when they arrived that they will be on specifically camping site. Because they did not want the police coming at them, they changed the place where they wanted to camp. She announces to them that a storm is coming up and that they should go where they were supposed to be. At this point she hears the girl trapped screaming and tries to go inside a tent where she thinks she is. Instead, the tent covered the entering of the mine, so she falls and dies. After discussing what they should do, the police woman escapes the mine-she were alive indeed-but one of the girls kills her by accident after a fight for a gun outside the mine.
Then, they are hit by the storm and a big waterspout starts to fall, causing the flood of the mine. It is revealed then, thanks to the book, that people inside the mine were dead because of a flood. While they continue to extract gold, a fight between the two guys leaves dead one of them by the hands of the more aggressive one. The only guy left now forces the girl who killed the police woman to take a backpack full of gold and climb the mine. When she gets out, the weight of the backpack forces her to drag it through the mud. She does not realize that the waterspout is causing the backpack to slide little by little to the entering of the mine.
On the last sequence of events, the girl trapped arrives to freed herself from the stone thanks to the water, and she starts to climb to get out of the mine. The guy reaches her, but the backpack that was sliding finally gets to the entering of the mine and hits the guy, causing his dead after he falls down the mine. At this point, the girl who was trapped wants to reach a bag full of gold, the only left after the backpack fell down, and after taken it the mine collapses, and she is buried within. The only girl alive is the one who killed the police.
