Madonna‘s “Like a Virgin” is one of the most important dance songs of the 1980s. You’d think every artist would have wanted to record it! However, other artists had major issues with the track. Things went differently when the song’s writers played it for Madonna.
Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ has a major connection to Cyndi Lauper
“Like a Virgin” was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. They also co-wrote Whitney Houston’s “So Emotional,” The Bangles’ “Eternal Flame,” and “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper. During an interview with SongwriterUniverse, Steinberg revealed that many singers were resistant toward “Like a Virgin.”
“We tried to place ‘Like a Virgin,’ but everyone looked at us like we were nuts,” he said. “Some people even asked us to change the title. I knew that compared to most mainstream pop lyrics, the title and theme might seem a bit jolting and risque.

It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover had especially strong praise for Blake Lively’s performance in the big-screen adaptation of her best-selling novel.
In a conversation with People, Hoover opened up about her experience serving as an executive producer on the film, noting that the process has been “absolutely incredible and surreal” for her. She explained that everyone who has worked on the film has been dedicated to making the adaptation as faithful and heartfelt as possible.
The author noted that Lively gives a “captivating, stunning and emotional” performance in the lead role. “There aren’t enough words to describe her phenomenal talent,” she added. “Blake Lively truly brought Lily Bloom to life in a way that exceeded all my expectations.”
Hoover continued, “When I wrote Lily’s character, I thought I had a fairly solid image in mind, but Blake’s portrayal added so much depth and complexity...

Netflix’s hit series Virgin River might be getting a spinoff. The streaming service is considering a prequel series focusing on Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) parents, according to a new report.

The Virgin River prequel is currently in development at Netflix, Deadline reports. The show would focus on Mel’s mother, Sarah, and her relationship with Everett Reid.
In the 2023 Virgin River Christmas episodes, Mel learned that her mother had a relationship with a man in Virgin River and that man was her biological father. That sent Mel on a quest to find her biological dad, who was eventually revealed to be Everett. Though at first he wanted nothing to do with his daughter, he eventually had a change of heart. This year celebrates 25 years since the final year of the 1900’s. A year that brought about such classics as The Matrix, Fight Club, American Pie, and Office Space as well as my personal favorite movie of all time: Arlington Road. The year was so successful that 20 years later it would inspire a book titled Best Movie Year Ever.
With a vast cannon of films ranging from highly anticipated block busting prequels (Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace) to that years’ eventual Best Picture winner American Beauty and a movie that changed the meaning of twist endings forever (The Sixth Sense) 1999 truly was a year for the ages.
I will be honest, after compiling last weeks list for Best Movies from 1994 and now this list, I have to say 1994 was far more deserving of its own book! But that isn’t to say that 1999 doesn’t have a number of...

After a week in second place, Suits returned to the top of the streaming charts, extending its record run as the No. 1 overall title in Nielsen’s weekly rankings. Netflix’s Sex Education also scored well for the week of its final season premiere, and a pair of HBO series joined the rankings after their Netflix debuts.
Suits drew 1.79 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix and Peacock in the United States for the week of Sept. 18-24 — marking its 13th week as the overall No. 1 in the rankings and extending its own record. In the 14 weeks since it first made the rankings, the legal drama has racked up 40.55 billion minutes of viewing — more than 9 billion minutes more than the second-place show for 2023, Bluey on Disney+ (the kids’ favorite had 856 million minutes of viewing for the week).

When Hope Calls follows two sisters, Lillian (Kohan) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon), who run an orphanage in the small town of Brookfield. The characters were introduced in the 2018 When Calls the Heart holiday special, The Greatest Christmas Blessing.
When Hope Calls premiered in 2019 and was renewed for a second season in 2021. A Christmas special aired later that year on Great American Family, but since then, there’s been no word on when – or if – additional episodes will ever air.

Harlequin romance novels are getting a new lease of life in audio form.
The company has struck a deal with podcast company Audio Up, which is behind Stephen King’s Strawberry Spring, to adapt a number of its books into audio series.
Harlequin is the company responsible for the books behind series such as Sweet Magnolias and Virgin River. The plan is to turn 52 books into podcasts.
First up is Montana Mavericks, a scripted dramatic podcast based on In Search of the Long-Lost Maverick, written by Christine Rimmer.
The series is set in Bronco Heights with its small-town charm and Western allure, where Melanie Driscoll, seeking a fresh start, returns home from the big city into the waiting arms of Gabe Abernathy, a rugged cowboy from the town’s most powerful family with secrets of his own.
It will also have an original soundtrack from a number of rising stars...

Suits finally fell from grace.
For the first time in 12 weeks (and after breaking another record the week before), the USA Network legal drama was bumped from its top spot on the Nielsen streaming charts from September 11-17.
Don’t get it twisted, Suits still racked up 1.9 billion viewing minutes and took second place during this interval across Netflix and Peacock — which is icing on the cake for NBCUniversal, as the studio now appears to be eyeing an expansion of the Suits universe — but it was heavyweight Virgin River that came out on top.
The Netflix original hit the Nielsen charts last week at No. 2, following the debut of Season 5. With a full week of availability on the streaming platform, the latest installment helped boost Virgin River to an impressive 2.1 billion minutes viewed.
That, of course, is across all 52 episodes, since Nielsen doesn’t differentiate its viewing metrics by season.

Suits’ streaming popularity has even taken Aaron Korsh, the creator of the USA Network legal drama, by surprise. “I always thought we were underestimated, but it turns out, even I underestimated #Suits,” Korsh tweeted on Saturday after Deadline reported that Suits had topped Nielsen’s chart of the top 10 streaming programs for a 12th week. “It’s good to be the king.” Suits’ 12-week run atop Nielsen’s streaming Top 10 means that the show now has the most overall No. 1 finishes on the chart, surpassing the Netflix thriller Ozark, the previous record holder. Between Netflix and Peacock users, viewers streamed Suits for 2.36 billion minutes for the week of September 4 to September 10, the most recent week for which Nielsen has released streaming figures. Shane Mahood/USA Network Virgin River came in second place with 1.92 billion minutes of streaming viewing, followed by One Piece with 1.39 billion, the live-action movie The Little Mermaid with 1.37 billion,...

Lea Thompson and Stacey Farber shined in the new mystery series, The Spencer Sisters. The series combined light-hearted crime drama with family angst well.
The Spencer Sisters Season 1 Episode 1 introduced both Darby and Victoria Spencer and hinted at why they had been estranged.
As an introductory chapter, the series did a decent job previewing the issues our leading ladies may have and what motivated them to go into the private investigation business together.
The Spencer Sisters was similar to many of Canada's other breezy procedurals, where private investigators solve crimes, typically bloodless ones, with plenty of humor sprinkled in. It reminded me of Private Eyes, which made sense since Alan McCullough created and produced both series.
The CW was fortunate to pick this series up since programming was lacking this fall during the strike. It fits right in with their programming, and both actresses have a massive fanbase.

Life is dealing the folks of Virgin River with heartwarming and heartbreaking cards.
And frankly, we wouldn't have it any other way, as Virgin River Season 5 Episode 4 served as a bit of calm before the storm, or in this case, before the wildfire.
The hour served as a reminder that we must take the bad with the good in life and can't take anything for granted.
It made it a perfect precursor for what's to come when the wildfires ravage through this small town we know and love.
Do you know what's winsome? A collection of women in their 60s and older reflecting on life and figuring out what their new normal is.
There is often so much discourse surrounding women and aging, and the ladies of Virgin River welcome the concept of aging and the discussions surrounding it and show how beautiful it is.

Thousands of actors have been walking the picket lines across LA and New York today and it’s clear that the SAG-AFTRA strike against the studios is going to continue to wreak havoc on scripted television.
But many of these faces are also now in charge of hosting, exec producing and competing in unscripted series for the broadcast networks, leading to the question of whether shows such as The Voice, Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer will be impacted by the strike.
It led network execs, producers and agents to scramble yesterday, making frantic phone calls to talent and figuring out the landscape as it pertains to the walkout.
The short answer, it seems, is that the majority of these shows, which make up the bulk of the fall schedules, will still be able to go ahead with production, thanks to a different contract set up.

CBS has picked up to series three of its four pilots, handing out formal orders to the Kathy Bates-led Matlock reboot, The Good Fight spinoff Elsbeth starring Carrie Preston, and the father-son comedy starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. that is now titled Poppa’s House.
Matlock, Elsbeth and Poppa’s House are the first scripted series orders at CBS for new entertainment president Amy Reisenbach. The former head of current programming replaced Kelly Kahl atop the network last year. Her tenure at the network goes back to 2005, when she was a manager in the current programming department, meaning her fingerprints are already all over CBS’ current schedule.
CBS, like other broadcast networks, drastically reduced the volume of pilot orders this year. The network developed only two dramas (Elsbeth and Matlock) and a pair of comedies (Jumpstart, House). All four are fully owned by CBS Studios as networks...

ReviewSanthosh Ananddram’s film attempts to use the protagonist’s plight to evoke humour and emotions but ends up being too dense.YouTube | Hombale FilmsHunger is the operative theme of Santhosh Ananddram’s Raghavendra Stores, a frolicking comedy-drama starring Jaggesh and produced by Hombale Films. Hunger surfaces in several forms in the film over the course of its 1-hour-and-45-minute run time – hunger for love and physical connection, hunger for power, and also the more literal form of hunger. And to further extrapolate this, the film is interestingly set in and around a traditional restaurant called Raghavendra Stores, which is more than 50 years old. Age, too, is of significance in Raghavendra Stores and a lot of the plot revolves around the protagonist’s race against time to find a bride. Not a day goes by without Hayavandana (Jaggesh) – a cook at Raghavendra Stores – being reminded that his sunny days are...

The CW is shoring up its schedule for fall 2023 — and bringing a couple of familiar faces back to the network.
The broadcaster has partnered with Canadian network CTV and Fremantle on Sullivan’s Crossing, a family drama about a neurosurgeon (Morgan Kohan of Hallmark’s When Hope Calls) who returns to her small hometown in the wake of a professional scandal. Gilmore Girls alum Scott Patterson and former One Tree Hill lead Chad Michael Murray (who also had a role on Gilmore Girls) also star.
The series, based on novels by Virgin River author Robyn Carr, will air on The CW in the fall. It’s currently midway through its 10-episode run on CTV.
“Sullivan’s Crossing is an emotionally rich, authentic family drama that will immediately resonate with audiences thanks to an incredible cast and relatable themes of self-reflection, second chances and the power of community,” said Brad Schwartz, The CW’s president of entertainment.

The American adaptation of The Office outlasted its U.K. counterpart by seven seasons. Now all 9 seasons of The Office are available on Peacock, but when it began in 2005, many of its stars thought they’d be out of work shortly after. The Office star Jenna Fischer credits one movie with saving the show.

Brian Baumgartner replayed his interview with Fischer on his Off the Beat podcast on March 7. Fischer suspects NBC only kept The Office going to be in the Steve Carell business.
Jenna Fischer did not expect ‘The Office’ to make it
By 2004, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s The Office was acclaimed. Both critics and fans were skeptical of the American remake, and the cast knew it.
“We shot the pilot in March of 2004 and my 30th birthday was March 7th of 2004,” Fischer said on Off the Beat.

"Huesera: The Bone Woman" is a horror movie that attacks all the senses. Loosely inspired by the folk tale La Huesera (translation: the bone woman), co-writer and director Michelle Garza Cervera places audiences in Valerai's (Natalia Solián) point of view as the protagonist fights to survive a supernatural curse in a society already damned by expectations. Every sight, sound, and fright is personal.
Cervera first heard the folktale of La Huesera in her 20s. It's a story that spoke to her about identity and freedom. For years, she kept the tale in mind and finally co-wrote "Huesera: The Bone Woman" with Abia Castillo. The end result is a visceral horror film with internal and physical scares. Without spoiling anything, Cervera hopes audiences leave the movie with hope. The director, whose short film "La Rabia de Clara" you can watch here, recently took us behind-the-scenes of her striking feature directorial debut.

Ashton Kutcher rocks a new look in “Vengeance” — and wife Mila Kunis was here for it! The actor is opening up about his Texas-sized character in B.J. Novak‘s directorial debut, for which he rocks an impressive cowboy hat and moustache.
In an interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with guest host David Alan Grier, Kutcher raves about Novak’s script while noting that he only takes on acting projects when he truly wants to. In the film, he plays Quentin Sellers, a rural Texas music producer.
“This character, when I first saw it, I was like, ‘This is interesting.’ He kinda had this Boss Hog vibe to him,” Kutcher says, adding that he saw parallels to Burt Reynolds’ “Cannonball Run” and “Smokey and the Bandit”. “I was like, ‘Alright, I think this guy has got, like, this air of sophistication.'”
Kunis, he adds with a laugh, “had to deal with it.

From her earliest days on Degrassi to her more recent work on Virgin River, Stacey Farber has built a career out of playing the girl next door. So she never expected to find herself straddling Superman in the middle of the woods, much less pummeling his face with her own fists of steel.

There have been a number of fairly recent horror/thriller movies that have been marketed as the horror or ‘adult’ version of Home Alone. Now, Home Alone is one of my favourite movies ever and a more adult orientated version should be perfect. Unfortunately it’s not quite as simple as that and although 1989’s Deadly Games is great, nothing since has really captured that same Christmas feeling with a bit more of an edge. How To Deter A Robber is the latest movie to try.
In it, we see a young couple initially suspected of the number of burglaries in their small town. But when their own home gets robbed, they have to face off against the real criminals.

Exclusive: Deadline has learned that ITV America is developing the music reality series Star Serenade with Brazilian singer model and actress Greice Santo as creator and EP.
The series format is described as having recording artists/pop-stars surprising individuals with a performance of a song that’s particularly meaningful to the person requesting, as well as the artist themselves.
Santo had a eureka moment last year that would reshape the vision for her own life and lead to the development of Star Serenade. Last summer, Santo organized a surprise serenade for her friend, Giuliana Feltscher, wife of LA Galaxy soccer star Rolf Feltscher, of legendary Italian award-winning singer and producer Tony Renis performing the ballad “Quando Quando Quando”. The song meant the world to Giuliana Feltscher as her father sang it to her as a child. In May 2020, Feltscher lost her father to Covid after he endured a three-month battle...

The reason behind Steve Carell belting out Kelly Clarkson’s name is pretty simple actually and part of the blame falls on Seth Rogen’s shoulders according to the writers at Looper. Out of all the things he could say though, and Rogen actually wrote out a list, Clarkson’s name was somehow added to the litany of nonsense that Carell could pick from and her name was what he belted out after a few utterances that have been immortalized to this day. It’s kind of obvious that Clarkson would be a little confused as to why a man getting his chest waxed

Blitz Bazawule, Aurora Guerrero and Deborah Kampmeier have been added to the director roster for Ava DuVernay’s forthcoming romantic anthology drama Cherish the Day. The Own series has also added Michael Beach (ER), Anne-Marie Johnson (For The People) and Kellee Stewart (Guess Who) in recurring roles.
The new trio of directors will join previously announced director Tanya Hamilton while the actors will join series regulars Xosha Roquemore, Alano Miller and, of course, the legendary Cicely Tyson. Cherish the Day is blazing the trail when it comes to inclusion as it achieved full gender parity with a production crew of over 50% women, including 18 female department heads.
Chapter one of Cherish the Day chronicles the relationship of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day. The narrative will unfold to reveal significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the everyday.
