This is a wacky and totally ridiculous "saga" that brought smiles and laughs amid so much bad news!
True, it's not "tight" in direction or script, at times amateurish and definitely a "groaner", BUT, it's also clever and original and just plain silly fun. As an ordinary person, not a professional critic or someone who considers themselves particularly skilled at movie critiques, I'd recommend this with a caveat: it's NOT sophisticated humor, and you can enjoy it with your kids.

A bit too normal for my taste...

When I watched "Sudsy Slim Rides Again" tonight, I think I made an unintentional mistake. I saw Chad and Darin Carpenter's "Moose: The Movie" before "Sudsy" earlier that night...and because "Moose" was so wonderful and so funny, my expectations for "Sudsy" were just too high. Had I seen "Sudsy" first, I probably would have given it a much more favorable rating. But I can't help but notice that there is a huge quality difference between their two films...and, surprisingly, the much cheaper earlier one is so much better. "Moose" is a classic of low-budget film making.
When the story begins, two jerks have just escaped from prison. The relatively smarter of the two idiots has a plan....to steal the body of long-dead "Sudsy Slim" from the local museum/souvenir shop and ransom it back so the pair can get money to take a plane to Canada. But something weird happens when they sneak into the place to steal the mummified body of this colorful bandit from times past. It seems that when the corpse falls out of the pair's hands, it falls on the lady who runs the place...and she thinks Sudsy has come to life! And, taking this as inspiration, throughout the film the pair use Sudsy to make it appear as if he's a zombie...and the locals are afraid to stop him. There to help is a lawman from the 'ABCD' (sort of like the FBI of Alaska).
The film is silly and weird. But I also think it could have been so much sillier and weirder. Doing so as well as editing down the film a bit would have sustained the momentum of the picture better. As is, it seemed to drag just a bit. There were some nice moments (such as noticing the little things...such as the posters on the walls)...but the time between them just seemed a tad too long at times. Worth seeing but flawed.

Kind of green, but shows glimmers of skill

This is a twist on ol' Soapy Smith, the conman.
While it cries out for editing (way) down, their are numerous flashes of inspired creation...Coen homage etc.
The cast was likeable enough for this entry level piece.
It shows a good bit of love on the part of cast and crew. I think some involved may progress...

I've seen movies with 10 times the budget deliver half the content that Sudsy Slim does. A really enjoyable film to watch with family and friends.
their first movie Moose is very enjoyable, this Movie shows a refinement of their skills and story telling. I hope to see more movies from these guys!
