New Delhi, July 25 (Ians) One of Independent India’s biggest and most monumental milestones, the hard-fought victory in the Kargil War, is celebrated each year on July 26 as the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’.It is an occasion for us to look back at the films inspired by the war, the most recent one being the hit 2021 movie ‘Shershaah’, starring Sidharth Malhotra, playing the martyred war hero, Captain Vikram Batra, and Kiara Advani.
Each of these movies adopted a different approach, some took a more realistic and grounded approach, other stuck to the traditional cinematic route, but each mixed together a bunch of elements, from emotions to dance, drama, romance, war action, and, above all, patriotism and national pride.
‘Shershaah’, a pandemic-era multiple award-winning biographical film on Amazon Prime Video, tells the story of Captain Vikram Batra from the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, who was given the codename Shershaah by his superiors...

KollywoodIs it okay for music composers to be inspired by other compositions? When does an inspiration become a plagiarised work?Anjana ShekarFacebook/ Saarattu Vandiyila - Kaatru VeliyidaiA few days ago, music composer Santhosh Narayanan was accused of plagiarism for ‘Kanda Vara Sollunga’, a moving oppari (Tamil folk lament style) number in the voice of Kidakuzhi Mariyammal, in Dhanush’s upcoming film Karnan. However, the makers had clearly credited popular folk singer Thekkampatti S Sundarrajan for the tune at the beginning of the video. His version is a devotional song sung in praise of Ayappan, and it goes ‘Kanda Vara Sollunga, Ayappanai". While the accusation in this case is perhaps unfair since due credit was given, there have been several instances in the past when fans have pointed out similarities between songs. For example, Anirudh’s ‘Chumma Kizhi’ composed for Rajinikanth’s Darbar which was released in 2020, closely resembles a devotional song.

Bollywood has been around for a very long time for sure, but love has been around for longer. As much as Bollywood has somehow kept finding new ways to express love, whether that be the forbidden love of a rich man’s daughter all the way through to the love of another man/woman or in a love that dare not speak its own name because it takes the form of patriotism or religious fervour, love still out lasts Bollywood. So, on this Valentine’s day lets listen to a few different ways Bollywood has tried and failed to capture love over the years.
