What started as a singing competition special featuring Wiz Khalifa and Bebe Rexha that aired during NBA All-Star Weekend on TNT is now being shopped as a full-format series, Variety has learned.
From “The Biggest Loser” and “World of Dance” executive producer Alex Katz, co-founder of Anagram Studios, the special was titled “The Sum” and though it prominently featured Wiz Khalifa and Rexha, they weren’t the competitors. Their fans, singing along to their hit songs, were the real players.
Per “The Sum’s” description, “‘The Sum’ is an original concept based on the best part of any concert — fans singing along with the artists, also known as ‘the common chorus effect.’ In ‘The Sum,’ fans share the spotlight with their favorite music stars by performing a song together.”
Following the success and positive response from both the talent and the fans, Anagram is now shopping the series around to networks.

Karina Smirnoff hasn’t been on “Dancing with the Stars” in five years, but if she were to return, it would not be in pursuit of another Mirrorball trophy. “I would definitely enjoy judging,” Smirnoff told Parade.com. “I don’t know if I would go back as a dancer. I think there’s a right time in life for everything.”
The pro spent 18 seasons on “Dancing,” winning Season 13 with J.R. Martinez, and last competed on Season 22 in spring 2016 with Doug Flutie, where they finished in ninth place. Smirnoff, who stars in the new film “Tango Shalom,” left when her contract was up to return to the world of competitive dancing.

The Rookie will feature a lot more Jenna Dewan.
According to Deadline, the actress has been promoted to series regular on the procedural drama.
Dewan plays firefighter Bailey Nune and first appeared at the end of The Rookie Season 3.
It seemed like there were plans to make Dewan more prominent on the series, with showrunner Alexi Hawley telling TV Line earlier this year there were plans to keep the actress on the show.
“We couldn’t really do a ton of love interest stuff during the middle of the pandemic, but at the end of the day it felt like, ‘Let’s find him somebody to potentially take us into next season’. And Jen is really special, and I love the character,” Hawley said at the time.
News of the promotion comes days after it was announced Dewan would be reprising her Lucy Lane role on The CW's Superman & Lois.

Derek Hough has a record six Mirrorball trophies, two Emmys for his choreography on “Dancing with the Stars” and is widely regarded as one of the series’ best pros ever, but he felt like a fraud in his early seasons.
“I definitely look back at my approach to the show. In my earlier seasons, I was nervous and I was uncertain. I was kind of faking it, to be honest with you,” Hough told Jana Kramer, a “Dancing” alum, on her “Whine Down” podcast. “I wasn’t really a teacher or choreographer. People used to say, ‘Oh, you’re a good choreographer.’ I’m like, I never really looked at myself in that way. That made me fearful and afraid.”

The non-scripted television business is made up of a wily group of people who deftly navigated their way through the Covid-19 pandemic to get a large volume of shows on air.
There is now new light at the end of the tunnel and shows that were shut down, forced to adapt or paused during the last twelve months are starting to find a sense of normality with the likes of American Idol bringing back audiences, Survivor finally getting back into production and American Ninja Warrior returning to its traditional summer time slot.
There is also a widespread sense of optimism that the next twelve months will be buoyant for the business – the “roaring ‘20s of non-scripted” as one buyer called it – with the pandemic having an encouraging impact on development that will see some wild and noisy ideas emerge.
Deadline has spoken to close to 50 senior buyers and sellers from across the broadcast,...

On March 30 — a fitting date — ABC announced that “Dancing with the Stars” will be returning for its landmark 30th season this fall. And the network also announced who will be coming back with the celebrity dance competition series. Tyra Banks will return as host, and we’ll be getting a panel of four judges instead of just three: Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, returning Len Goodman, and holdover Derek Hough.
Banks was a controversial addition to “DWTS” when she joined the show as host and executive producer for season 29. That’s because she was replacing Tom Bergeron, who was fired from the series after hosting it from its very first season in 2005, and Erin Andrews, who had been Bergeron’s co-host since 2014.

There’s no big secret to why World of Dance was canceled at NBC, the ratings simply weren’t high enough and whenever that happens the best that anyone can hope for is a reboot, a revival, or the possibility of cancelation and a new show to move to. It’s easy to think that the host and judges of the show will find other places to shine since their careers have for the most part been solidified at some point in the past, but this show will be headed on down the road until someone can think of a reason to bring
