After Kôhei Inuzuka's wife died, he and his daughter only eat packaged meals while he works as a teacher. When Kôhei saw his daughter excited about some food she saw on the television, he took her to the restaurant.
Tsumugi gets in an argument with a boy at her nursery because some of the girls gave her clay. Tsumugi feels down, but after eating the Hamburg steak that Kôhei and Kotori Iida made, her mood gets better.
Kotori sees Tsumugi with a man that she doesn't recognize, she later finds out that the man is Yûsuke Yagi, Kôhei's friend. Kôhei and Kotori decide to make doughnuts.
Kotori's friend, Shinobu Kojika, finds out that she and Kôhei are making food. Everyone decides to have a party where they cook dumplings. Kôhei, Kotori, Tsumugi, Shinobu and Yûsuke all go to the party.
Kôhei is sick, so Tsumugi goes out to Kotori. When Tsumugi comes back, Kôhei yells at her for leaving the house on her own. Kôhei and Tsumugi reconcile and Kotori makes rice, but burns it, so she makes something else using the same rice.
Kôhei doesn't go to school because it's parents day at Tsumugi's nursery. Kôhei asks Tsumugi what she would like him to make and she says squid. Kôhei asks Kotori to help him make squid.
Tsumugi has a sleep over at her nursery. When Tsumugi was at the nursery, she mentioned that she liked home curry, so Kôhei decides to make dry curry with Kotori.
Kôhei and Tsumugi go to the beach but leave early because it's hot when leaving a family gives them three fish. They go to Kotori's home to fillet the fish. When they arrive, they get help from Shinobu as well.
Tsumugi has a disagreement with her friend about who gets to play a character for her nursery's play. Kotori will be making crepes for her school festival so everyone decides to make crepes.
Tsumugi and Kôhei eat at the restaurant, but they quickly leave because Tsumugi starts crying. After that, they go to cook at Kotori's house with Kotori, Shinobu and Yûsuke. Everyone finally meets Kotori's mother.
