Coachella 2024 kicked off Friday, and festival season is officially upon us once again.
With over 100,000 festival goers in the desert for this weekend’s debut, Day One was a stacked opening, with Lana Del Rey bringing out Billie Eilish for a duet, Shakira shocking the crowd and announcing a world tour during Bizarrap’s set, and Peso Pluma putting corridos on the world stage.
If Euphoria core influenced Coachella’s fashion in years past, 2024 has now gone cosmic cowboy as the silver boots and cowboy hats took over the festival grounds.

Eilish joined Del Rey at the end of her main set. Seated together in a gilded balcony, the two performed duets of Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes” and Del Rey’s “Video Games.”

Following their mini set, the two singers took time to praise one another. Del Rey called Ellish, “The voice of our generation, the voice of your generation.” Eilish responded, “[Del Rey] is the reason for half you bitches’ existence — including mine!”
Other guests included Antonoff, who played piano alongside a hologram version of Del Rey singing a pre-recorded version of “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have – But I Have It.” Plus, Batiste played keys for Del Rey as she pole-danced and sang “Candy Necklace.

The 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards have wrapped, and the full SAG winners list shows momentum for Lily Gladstone in the Best Actress race at the Oscars — as well as for “Oppenheimer” and its very possible march toward Best Picture.
“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” led the nominations when they were announced January 10 with four each. “Oppenheimer” ended up winning the most of any film, with three prizes: Best Cast (the top prize), Best Actor Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor Robert Downey Jr. “Barbie” went home empty-handed.
Lily Gladstone won Best Actress for “Killers of the Flower Moon” over Emma Stone for “Poor Things,” who won the prize at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the SAG Award for Best Supporting Actress for “The Holdovers,” and has pretty much swept that category at every awards show this season.

No one loves Eli Manning as much as I do. Somewhere, I have a book on Manning inscribed, “To the only Giants fan who never booed Eli.” (Accurate.) There are the jerseys, cards, the autographs, the bobbleheads. I was at Eli’s first game, his retirement ceremony game, and so many in between. One time, I interviewed Manning while he was ostensibly promoting Frank’s RedHot Original sauce just so I could relive the glory days he never knew we shared. But I know a ripoff when I see one, and Hulu’s new series “Chad Powers” is a direct attempt to capitalize on the gigantic success of Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso.”
Before “Ted Lasso” was a show, Ted Lasso was a heightened fish-out-of-water original character created solely to promote a major media company’s sports brand. It was to be a one-and-done comedy skit. Before “Chad Powers” was a show,...

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has confirmed that Matthew Perry will be honoured at its TV awards later this year following backlash over his omission from the In Memoriam segment of the film awards night on Sunday evening, reports ‘Variety’.
Although Perry, who died last October, was best known for his 10-year stint as Chandler Bing on hit TV show ‘Friends’, ‘Variety’ adds that he also appeared in a number of popular feature films in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including ‘The Whole Nine Yards’, alongside Bruce Willis, and ‘Fools Rush In’ opposite Salma Hayek.
This year’s In Memoriam segment, set to a special arrangement of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘The After Time’ performed by ‘Ted Lasso’ star Hannah Waddingham, featured Jane Birkin, Shirley Anne Field, Richard Roundtree, Michael Gambon, Tom Wilkinson and Carl Weathers, among others.

Premiering last summer, “The Bear” has become the most-watched comedy series in FX history. Season 1 amassed a total of 13 Emmy nominations, making it the third most-nominated comedy this year behind “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (14) and “Ted Lasso” (21). Included as part of their showcase is Jon Bernthal for Best Comedy Guest Actor for his performance as Michael “Mikey” Berzatto, his first Emmy bid after over 20 years working in the industry.
Like many actors, Bernthal’s first television appearance was in the “Law & Order” franchise on the spinoff “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” in 2002. After many appearances on a number of network dramas and sitcoms, he became known for his role as Shane Walsh in the first two seasons of “The Walking Dead,” and went on to work with such revered film directors as Martin Scorsese (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario”) and Edgar Wright (“Baby Driver”). As streamers test out varying release strategies for their television series, new data from Samba TV reveals that consumers are more likely to complete a show that they can binge in bulk, regardless of buzz.
According to the firm, about 45% of households surveyed finished a show during the first half of 2023 that was released in bulk, compared to 39% of households who finish a show released in multipart drops and 35% who finish a show dropped weekly.

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we take a look at comedy, including one category that seems to be a foregone conclusion.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! Emmys voting has come to a close, and we won’t know the results for another four months (lolsob), but that hasn’t stopped me from overthinking the comedy races. We both have “Ted Lasso” winning Best Comedy Series, an outcome in which I feel pretty confident. We also both have “Ted” winning for Best Comedy Directing, where it won last year, despite a lot of people feeling really strongly that “The Bear” will emerge victoriously. But I don’t have “Ted” winning a single acting award, which feels kind of wrong. This is a series that has won multiple...

“Ted Lasso” is on track to win its third Emmy in a row for Best Comedy Series, per Gold Derby’s racetrack odds. Apple TV Plus’ feel-good show topped all other laffers this year with a whopping 21 Emmy nominations (see below), just one shy of the comedy record set by “30 Rock” in 2009. Fun fact: if “Ted Lasso” goes on to win trophy #3 this September, it’d be only the seventh comedy in Emmy history to prevail for its first three seasons on the air.
The most recent time this rare feat occurred was for “Modern Family,” which actually won five times consecutively (2010-14). Before that was “30 Rock” (first three seasons in 2007-09), “Frasier” (first five seasons in 1994-98), “Taxi” (first three seasons in 1979-81), “All in the Family” and “The Phil Silvers Show” (first three seasons in 1956-58).

The Collapse of Broadcast and Cable Is a Game-Changing Moment in the Hollywood Strikes | Pro Insight
Hollywood writers could not have scripted a better climax to the ongoing labor negotiations gripping the entertainment industry than the news that for the first time in the history of television, viewers spent a majority of time watching premium content off of broadcast or cable.
The announcement from Nielsen that cable and broadcast’s share of TV viewership had plummeted to an all-time low of 49% in July was long coming. Traditional TV has been on the decline for years, but younger generations have accelerated the collapse by stampeding away from cable.
According to the Harris Poll, two-thirds of Gen Z and more than half of Millennials do not have cable today. These younger households are not your traditional cord-cutters. These younger households are full-on cord-nevers – most have never paid a $100 cable bill and never will.

As the winners take to the mic, beaming from ear to ear as they clutch their brand new statuettes, they’re expecting softballs. And most of the time that’s what they get. Every once in a while, things get heated: I still remember, years ago, “Mad About You” star Helen Hunt getting testy with a reporter who dared ask about the end of the show.
Keeping that in mind, there I was once again backstage last year in the press room when I realized that no one else was going to ask a similar question to the “Ted Lasso” cast and producers. Having won back-to-back Emmys for outstanding comedy, “Ted Lasso” was on a roll. And yet, there were already signals that “Ted Lasso” might wrap after a third and final season. So, I asked star Jason Sudeikis that question.

This year’s Emmy nominations pit multiple actors from the same series against one another in several categories — and a few series dominate throughout all the noms — but it’s still not going to be easy for voters to choose the winners. Below, Variety breaks down several high-profile categories.
Drama Series
HBO’s “Succession” seems to be the one to beat in this year’s Emmy drama race — and in most of the other above-the-line categories. Last year’s winner not only nabbed 27 nominations in total, but after its final season, it has more power than ever. The competition is a bit different than last year, with “The White Lotus” moving from limited series last year (where it won) into the drama category for Season 2. Plus, it’s racked up a whopping 23 nominations, so down the line voting could happen for the series. AMC’s “Better Call Saul” and Showtime...

Emmy voters love a multi-hyphenate. From Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Ricky Gervais to Larry David and Dan and Eugene Levy; when a performer turns their hand to off-screen work and helps tell vital stories as a director, writer, producer, creator, or any combination of the above, voters pay attention.
Waller-Bridge won three Emmys for “Fleabag” in 2019 — for Best Comedy Series, Best Comedy Actress, and Best Comedy Writing. Meanwhile, Dan Levy won four Emmys in 2020 for “Schitt’s Creek,” taking home awards for Best Comedy Supporting Actor, Best Comedy Writing, Best Comedy Directing (shared with Andrew Cividino), and Best Comedy Series. He shared the latter win with his father, Eugene, who also won Best Comedy Actor. It’s a trusted tale that, time and time again, Emmy voters love. But which creatives could reap the rewards of that love this year?
Below, we’ve put together a select list of five multi-hyphenates who...

On the long list of “Ted Lasso” creators, it can be easy to overlook the name of Brendan Hunt. The multi-talented artist plays the equally reticent and wacky Coach Beard on “Lasso,” and recently sat down with the Los Angeles Times to offer his thoughts on the future of Apple TV+’s flagship series, among other topics.

Hunt told the Times that Apple CEO Tim Cook had been to visit the set while Season 3 was in production, and told everyone there he “sure hope[d] there’s a Season 4.” Hunt said that Cook’s message in relaying those words was very clear and that when the boss tells you what he wants, it’s wise to at least give it consideration.

This story about Phil Dunster and “Ted Lasso” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Ask “Ted Lasso” fans to name their favorite storyline of the surprisingly super-sized Season 3 and you’ll likely get a unanimous answer: the burgeoning bromance between Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster). The relationship would have been unimaginable in Season 1, when the two alpha males openly despised each other. But the bad blood was wiped clean by Jamie’s transformation from AFC Richmond bad boy to team sweetheart.
“I made a petition that I signed 25,000 times myself and gave it to the writers every day so that they would start writing Roy and Jamie scenes, because it was sort of my raison d’etre for a while,” Dunster said, smiling. “Brett is a huge part of why people enjoy that story because you can see him fighting...

The question on everyone's mind is what's going on with "Ted Lasso"? Season three ended with an extra-long final episode on May 31 that sees Ted (Jason Sudeikis) return to America and reunite with his son. But the rest of the AFC Richmond gang stay behind in London, continuing their lives that revolve around the beloved football team.
Though "Ted Lasso"'s cast and creator have acted as if season three is the final lap for the series - especially after their farewell-esque finale - Apple has not yet confirmed the latest episode as the series finale. Lots of fans are wondering if "Ted Lasso" will one day return for a season four or if the show could have a potential spinoff. On June 6, Apple TV+ shared a photo of Roy (Brett Goldstein), Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), and Nate (Nick Mohammed) from the end of the finale in their new coaching...

Jason Sudeikis is the two-time defending champ at the Emmys for his performance as the title character in “Ted Lasso,” and for a while he was the front-runner in our 2023 odds too. But the tide turned in recent days in the race for Best Comedy Actor. Suddenly Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”) is the man to beat. Make or update your own predictions here in our predictions center to let us know if you agree, and scroll down to see our graph that illustrates the current state of the race.

Mj Delaney has been with “Ted Lasso” since the beginning and the Emmy winner can only describe the three-season journey so far as an “absolute pleasure.” “This show, in particular, is such a lovely bunch of people and we’ve all just been a happy family from the start,” Delaney tells Gold Derby at our Meet the Experts: Directors panel (watch the exclusive video interview above). “Being able to go three seasons with them, it was so good from the get-go in terms of the dynamics behind the scenes that you just kind of build on that and get to know each other.”
And even three seasons in, there are still firsts for the Brit. Delaney has directed two episodes in each season so far, but unlike the first two installments, in which she helmed a block at the end of the season, she directed the first two episodes of...

In Apple TV+ series Shrinking, Jason Segel stars as Jimmy Laird, a therapist desperately in need of therapy. Following the death of his wife, Jimmy has dissolved into drugs and self-destruction, to the disgust of his teen daughter (Lukita Maxwell). And yet, he is curiously likeable and redeemable — such is the magic of Segel. Then comes Jimmy’s revelatory move: he decides his patients need a dose of the unvarnished truth. Disaster and hilarity ensue. In tandem with Ted Lasso’s Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, Segel co-created and produces Shrinking. He stars alongside Harrison Ford, who apparently enjoys a little improv with the best of them.
Deadline: You’re ramping up for Shrinking Season 2. Tell me Brett Goldstein is going to star in it this time?
Jason Segel: I don’t want to give anything away, but everyone, myself included, is pushing really hard to have Brett on the show.

It's the question on fans' minds everywhere after Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 12, and it seems like even the cast doesn't know whether the Apple TV+ dramedy is over.
TV Fanatic got to chat with Phil Dunster, who plays Jamie Tartt, about the finale's series-ending vibe.
The actor was surprised about how the show wrapped up many storylines.
He believes the episode could have gone in a very different direction, but what Jason Sudeikis and the creatives crafted was realistic.
"It's not the Hollywood ending; none of it is," Phil, who has been with the series since Ted Lasso Season 1 Episode 1, revealed.
All the arcs came together in a way grounded in reality, including AFC Richmond coming second in the league.
The actor recalled reading the script thinking the team beating West Ham meant they had won the league and being surprised in the aftermath.

The following piece contains spoilers for “So Long, Farewell,” the Season 3 finale of “Ted Lasso”
Add Emmy Award nominee Nick Mohammed to the list of “Ted Lasso” stars expecting the Season 3 finale to be the show’s last episode. Asked in an interview with Deadline if he felt “the chapter is closed” in terms of the story “Ted Lasso” has told over three seasons, Mohammed said, “Completely.”
“We obviously knew where it was headed, and we read all the scripts, and we were doing all these interviews. In our heads, we’re like, ‘Wait. Once you’ve seen the series, you won’t probably won’t want anymore because there’s so much closure, so much catharsis in it being three seasons,’” Mohammed said.
In the final episode of Season 3, Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) resigns as coach of AFC Richmond and moves back home to Kansas to be with his son.

This post contains spoilers for the "Ted Lasso" season 3 finale.
Seemingly knowing its place alongside some of the most popular comedy shows the zeitgeist has ever seen, the "Ted Lasso" season finale made sure to reference another one. If you're a fan of "The Office" — the original or the American remake — you probably spotted some of these connections.
Let's start with the final nod to both a classic rom-com trope and to another great sitcom finale: Ted and Rebecca's goodbye at the airport. It's similar to the one Jenna Fischer's Pam has with Steve Carrell's Michael Scott in the series finale of the U.S. version of "The Office." Rebecca surprises Ted there much like Pam does to Michael, but this time the audience is privy to their conversation in a way they were not with Pam and Michael. Just before seeing Pam, Michael took his microphone off for the last time.

The third season of “Ted Lasso” came to an end on Wednesday with a season finale that sure felt like a series ender.
As many fans expected, Season 3 of the Emmy Award-winning Apple TV+ comedy series ended with Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) returning back to his Kansas home to be with his son, Henry (Gus Turner). This post contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3.
"Ted Lasso" season 3 has just come to an end, leaving the fictional team of AFC Richmond at a crossroads after their head coach leaves his fish-and-chips-out-of-water life in London behind. Overall, the supposedly last season of the Apple TV+ phenomenon left a lot to be desired, failing to live up to the high points of the first two seasons where the jokes that hit far outweighed the ones that fell flat. While a lot of the episodes in season 3 felt overly long and unnecessarily melodramatic, the overall spirit of the show managed to stay intact thanks to Jason Sudeikis' naively positive "aw shucks" attitude as Ted.
Ted isn't only a sports fan, he's a pop culture aficionado raised on Thursday night primetime sitcoms from the '80s. Throughout its entire run, "Ted Lasso" has peppered in a number of clever references to the golden years of U.

It’s the end of the road for “Ted Lasso” and AFC Richmond as it all came to life on the Apple TV+ comedy from Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Bill Lawrence.

Apple has stayed vague about whether it was the Emmy-winning series’ final outing, despite public, bittersweet sentiment from the cast and near-constant speculation since well before Season 3’s March premiere. As recently as the morning of the finale, titled “So Long, Farewell,” a publicist underscored to IndieWire that Season 3 had not been confirmed as final. The character of Jamie Tartt has slowly become the best part of "Ted Lasso." When we first met him in season 1, Jamie was a bit of a parody of Cristiano Ronaldo and diva athletes who know they are skilled so they think themselves to be above everyone else. He was a prick with a brief stint as a reality TV star, but Jamie gained nuance and depth as a counterpart to Roy Kent, the new kid on the block that once idolized but is now rivals with the old guard.
While he was initially antagonistic, Jamie turned over a new leaf in season 2 as we learned more about his childhood trauma. Now in the third season, Jamie has become fully realized, a doofus with a huge heart, a true leader who cares about his team — and after having an ego check when Zava briefly joined the team — also a playmaker...

Brandi Carlile has shared her contribution to the Season 3 soundtrack of Ted Lasso. Out now, it’s a rendition of “Home,” made famous by Diana Ross in the 1978 film The Wiz.
Carlile’s version of “Home” appears in the penultimate episode of Season 3 of Ted Lasso, and like Dorothy in The Wiz, Ted is a far way from home. Nobody can quite match Ross’ level of soul in the original performance of the song, but Carlile adds a nice twist by swapping out its sweeping orchestral arrangements for a folksier piano.
Carlile also produced the track herself at ShangriLa Studios, with a backing band composed of Matt Chamberlain on drums, Sebastian Steinberg on bass, Dave Palmer on piano and organ, and Chauntee and Monique Ross on strings (no relation). Listen to the cover of “Home” below.

The full official trailer for Tom Cruise’s latest high-flying adventure as Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, has officially landed.
The clip opens with some narration from Henry Czerny’s returning character of former Imf director Eugene Kittridge, who issues a warning to Hunt. “Our lives are the sum of our choices,” he says. “And we cannot escape the past. Ethan, this mission of yours is going to cost you dearly.”
Meanwhile, Hunt’s ally Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) shares some ominous warnings of her own: “The world is changing. Truth is vanishing. War is coming.” All of this comes to a head when the big bad, played by Esai Morales, teases the film’s MacGuffin, which apparently knows Hunt’s story and how it ends.
Beyond all the dramatic narration and dialogue, there are the usual action shots of Cruise running at full speed, fighting...
