Great Story, Horrible Voice Acting
MahMahOne11 August 2018
The voice actors largely sound like a bunch of amateurs recorded their lines in their bathrooms and submitted them to the director. The voice of Menasor the weakest and most ill-suited of them all. Horrible casting !

The worst Transformers cartoon since Energon
legotransformerguy22 August 2018
Yikes.

Okay, first off, screenshots of this show don't look terrible. The CGI models and cell shading are actually competently done... which is the best thing I can say for this series. The actual animation is okay, but the lip-synch is horrid and the character's faces are constantly blank.

The story and characters are all over the place. Windblade chucks her comic counterpart's ideas of compassion in exchange for vengeance. Starscream actually seems like he wants whats best for Cybertron, only to do a complete 180 out of nowhere (granted this is in-character for Starscream, but it was implied this version of him would be like all the other incarnations from the past decades). The only tolerable character is Megatron, and even then it's because he goes through the whole show without giving a crap.

And that's not even mentioning all the other plot holes. What was that obviously organic planet Megatron was fighting the Constructicons on, and how did Optimus and Windblade get there? Where did Victorion come from? Why is there no mention of the fact that the combiners are made of 5-6 smaller robots? Does Windblade want to kill just the combiners, or the whole Cybertronian council- she says contradicting things throughout the show.

Overall it's just terrible. If you have some time (and brain cells) to kill and like riffing on bad media then maybe give it a watch. Otherwise, avoid it at all costs.

Definitely More Than Meets The Eye
Terryfan6 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Transformers: Combiner Wars is a animated series that is targeted to teenage and adult fans of the Transformers which of course spark interest because while we have shows like "Beast Wars" and "Prime" that was targeted to fans of all ages Combiner Wars try to be exactly for the older fans of the Transformers.

This mini Series has a total of eight episodes that are five to six minutes long which in a way could have been made into a mini movie. Because the writing for each episode feels like a bridge to the next episode. My favorite episode has to go to 'Unforgotten" because this is where we once again get the battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron with Windblade watching. The writing for the episode in my opinion was very good and in a way they could have gotten away with the three characters just having a conversation which was the episode was almost like it shows why you got two great characters in Optimus Prime and Megatron because the two can just get away with having a conversation and fans will still be on their seats.

The series brings in new and classic characters like watching a comic book coming to life while the first felt weak for a series it did get better in the later episodes. Some of the writing is good with smart quotes that help explain the feud of the Transformers. Each character has their own goal to which you have to keep watching to find out what happens next.

The animation is a range from good to mix but they try to be creative with the work like bringing a comic book to life and the voice work is sometimes a mix but again they try their best considering the limits of the show.

The story is the main driving point of Transformers: Combiner Wars so give it a try is it the best Transformers series? No but if you give it a chance you might be surprise how this is more than meets the eye

Good god not a single person in production was on point here
draikinator1 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is going to go down in history as the worst transformers serial of all time. This is worse than the bay movies. The plot makes zero sense, if there is a plot at all? The animation is embarrassing, the voice acting is cringworthy, the mixing is unbearable, the writing is just.... bad!!! it's bad!!! How anyone could call this a finished product baffles me. Supposedly "Combiner Wars" is about combiners but never once do we see anyone combine!!! in fact there's no indication that combiners are actually multiple people combined into one at ALL! it's literally never mentioned!

Optimus's va would have done much better to bring his own interpretation of the role instead of trying to do a lazy impression of peter cullen, the constant mixing problems of quiet music and weird loud screaming, oh my god, everything about metroplex's voice and mistress of flame's weird tinny resonance is just embarrassing. Who let this happen? What is the plot of this show? Why should I care about anything happening? the only thing good about this show was when i thought starscream was actually showing character growth and being interesting and seemed like a totally new take on the character- which they then threw out the window for pandering no one even wanted. And oh, my god, setting it up for a sequel in the last eight seconds? how dare you.

so yeah. combiner wars is bad, nothing about it is redeeming, you're better off watching the bay movies.

Avoid
CawG30 September 2016
Avoid this series like the plague, this series is that harmful to your health.

The voice acting is horrible, a 150 foot tall robot sounds like a 13 year old prepubescent boy. The creators put no effort into editing the voices to sound anything robotic and the sound actors didn't try to alter their voices to have any depth or feeling to them. It literally sounds like they asked people off the street to say some lines and used those as the finished product.

The story has absolutely nothing to do with the Combiner War comic story, they merely took some characters from the series and made this horrible addition to the Transformers universe. From the beginning a single transformer was hunting these combiners that could ruin whole worlds by themselves, does anyone see a problem with this? A single robot is fighting an enemy that apparently whole cities and planets don't seem to be able to handle adequately. The story tries to make the combiners a threat but from the first episode they are nothing but a joke, like this series.

The Enigma of Combiner Wars
Oneirosophos21 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge TF fan for 20+ years. I accept and embrace the fact that IDW has done a great job reinventing and reintroducing TF characters before Bayverse, through its comics. Combiner Wars was a very epic event, placed wonderfully in this new "Pax Cybertronia", with many battlefronts, from humanity to TF colonies! So, when I heard about this animated version, I was excited but skeptical. It was a major crossover that could not easily fit to a small movie and the animation was a bit awkward.

After so many weeks and 5' episodes, I just watched the grand finale. Episode 1 was interesting, episodes 2-5 were boring to lame, episode 6 was epic (due to MEGA COMBINER), 7 was OK and 8 was...A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT.

First of all, the format simply does not work. 5' is far too little. Next time, should be 10' format. Second of all, THE VOICEOVERS WERE LAME! They were worse than the worst voice-over of every TF game or anime ever made! To add salt to injury, the animation had major frame drops and the lip-sync was as lame as j-games' dubs. Far off. Finally, the plot had NOTHING TO DO WITH COMBINER WARS! They just took some major characters from the story arc and they made A NEW STORY that had nothing to do with the comic! Absolutely nothing! And the finale was just a lame cliffhanger! OMG TITANS RETURN buy their toys now!

And now, the spoilerish paragraph, to see in comparison the story.

In the comic, due to the discovery of the ancient ENIGMA OF COMBINATION, everyone wants to make his own giant combiner! The humans that despise Transformers after All Hail Megatron and so events, Galvatron's true Decepticons, Optimus' Autobots, the Badgeless under Starscream's reign and many more. You can read the rest and be amazed. In this animated movie, Windblade kills Combiners, as the Combiner hunter and then Starscream gets the Enigma from the Council (that has only 3 members instead of dozens!!!), become a MEGA COMBINER and then a black hole -ish, so Windblade as the city SPEAKER (another irrelevant loan from the comic!) takes control of Metroplex's ARM (!?!?!?!) and grabs the STARSCREAMEGACOMBINERTHATSPILLSDEATHEVERYWHERE, so that Optimus extinguish him with the Megatron Sniper form (ok that was cool but still). In the end, Victorion gets the enigma, shoves it into her chest, as Optimus had the matrix, and form a tribe of Combiners (!?!?!?!?!?!) that go off into the Cybertron desert.

And the Titans that return, are the Metroplex-like Titans that formed today's Cybertron's Colonies, back in the Knight Era! THEY ARE NOT 2 MOONS LIKE UNICRON!

So, although I still love TF's I will not watch the sequel, that I hope will get rejected or remade.

In a nutshell, prefer IDW TF comics, read All Hail Megatron and keep reading until today. Especially More Than Meets The Eye series is a masterpiece. Do not waste your time with this nonsense.

Loved the storyline while made as another realm.
filmblue-1163624 September 2016
The music and setting in the storyline brings back my attention to it. Nice to see a big-rig and seeing the original forms from the G1 show.

Interesting to see some Transformers using some special abilities, which is much better than the live-action Transformers which aren't doing so well.

Nice to see Megatron in his gun form with a cybertronian format. I would hate to see him in as a tank, while loving to put in my review. Seeing the combiners in action again makes some good episodes to watch.

The actors who voice Optimus and Megatron keep the voices true to the original characters. Good work.

Best Series Since G1....Incredible!
harlemseventeens6 August 2021
The best incarnation of G1 since the original. Must see TV.

Incredible, start to finish. Does not receive the credit it deserves. Towers over the recent Netflix series.
