NBC’s 2017 Golden Globes hauled in 20 million total viewers, according to Nielsen. That’s 1.5 million more than 2016, or up 8 percent year over year. Nice job, Jimmy Fallon. We’ll save you the math: last year, the Ricky Gervais-hosted awards show brought in 18.5 million. In 2015, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler attracted 19.3 million. The 2016 Gervais version landed a 5.5 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, which was down 5 percent from the Fey-Poehler double effort. Fallon’s turn scored a 5.6 rating, 2 percent better than last night. Also Read: Ratings: Green Bay Packers Beat Giants, Golden Globes Read the...

Inspired by the old Hollywood vibe of her embellished silver column dress, the Moonlight nominee and her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic punctuated her barely there beauty look with a soft pink pout.
“I always love a nude lip, but for this look I was able to add a pop of pink,” says Dedivanovic.

For the first time, the Critics Choice Awards collided with the Golden Globes nominations. Moving up the 22nd Broadcast Critics’ event from its traditional date (the night of the January Oscar nominations announcement) to mid-December was designed to increase the impact of the critics’ kudos, which aired live Sunday on A&E. What happened is that the smaller upstart was upstaged.
It would be nice to think that the 300-strong American Broadcast Film Critics could compete with some 90 idiosyncratic Hollywood Foreign Press. But they aren’t there yet. All the people assembled in the chilly Barker Hanger at the Santa Monica Airport for the Critics’ Choice Awards — for both TV and film — had the bigger, flashier awards show (set to air on NBC on January 8 during Oscar nominations primetime) on their minds.

Whatever happened at the Critics’ Choice Awards,...

It was no great surprise to see that “La La Land” continued barreling through awards season on Golden Globes nomination morning by standing out in seven categories, and naturally “Moonlight” landed a strong showing as well.
But the Hollywood Foreign Press is a quirky organization that can act in surprising ways that sometimes reflect smart campaigning — and other times simply speak to the idiosyncratic nature of the organization. Here are some of the contenders that caught us off-guard.

Farewell, “Fences”?
Denzel Washington’s lively adaptation of the August Wilson play was considered a major contender for Best Drama because…well, it’s a beloved August Wilson play directed by Denzel Washington and featuring a top-notch cast, exactly the sort of material the HFPA seems likely to reward in big ways. The Golden Globes are always filled with surprises; more surprises than most award shows, even. The HFPA’s small member body combined with a strong preference toward new blood makes for exciting and mind-boggling picks year after year, and the 2017 TV nominations were no different. From recent winners getting boxed out (“Mr. Robot”) to long-time also-rans working their way in (“The Americans”), there’s quite a lot to dig into — so let’s get started:
Snubs
“Mr. Robot” – Last year’s winner was shut out of the Best Drama Series race in favor of hot new favorites like “Stranger Things” and “Westworld.” We may never get over “This Is Us” getting voted in before Sam Esmail’s mind-bender, but at least stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater were still recognized for Season 2.
“House of Cards” – Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright, and the Netflix drama as a whole were shut out of the Globes this year,...

Ahead of the 74th Golden Globe Awards ceremony in less than a month, the nominations have now arrived. Leading the pack with seven nominations this year is Damien Chazelle‘s La La Land, which also had the highest opening per-theater-average of the year this past weekend, picking up an estimated $855,000 in five theaters for $171,000 per theaters.
Close behind was Barry Jenkins‘ Moonlight, which picked up six nominations. In terms of surprises, Martin Scorsese‘s Silence was completely shut out, while Jonah Hill earned a nomination for War Dogs and Aaron Taylor-Johnson — not Michael Shannon — was recognized for Nocturnal Animals.
