Waco and Baylor featured, small movie made by inexperienced moviemakers.
TxMike18 September 2018
My wife and I found this movie on Amazon streaming, it features Waco and Baylor, where the young star is from, and Dallas, where the director is from.

Kaley Caperton, Waco native who in fact is a very accomplished songwriter and singer, plays the featured role of Kat Abernathy. It is a familiar story, parents expect her to become one thing, in this case a lawyer to join the family law firm, but drawing and painting are her real passions. Her dad understands her, but her mother doesn't.

So she goes off to study but soon adopts two identities, her real one in studying law but an assumed name for her artistic endeavors. Situations arise, a love interest included, until Kat and her parents can achieve a resolution they can all live with.

My wife and I enjoyed it as light entertainment, but the script is highly variable, it works pretty well often but in all scenes involving conflict, like when the mother confronts her daughter at the art museum, nothing rings true. Several of the actors over-act very annoyingly. It just demonstrates how difficult it is to write a really good script, and how much really good actors bring to making it seem real. The actors here are mostly inexperienced, working with a spotty script, and it shows.

I know actors and filmmakers have to start somewhere and this one isn't all bad, but compared to really well-made movies it comes up way short.

The script is so shallow.

Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers below. . I really wanted to love this movie because of the subject matter. I had to stop the movie an hour in because the script was so bad. . The lead character walked into a art glass shop and the owner of the shop opened the back door so abruptly that it startled her and she broke a piece of glass she was holding and he was a complete jerk to her. She later ran into this guy at an art gallery and he walked her to her car and they were already holding hands at this point?!! He then invited her to come see him again at his art glass shop and she walked into the store and they didn't say anything and they just started dancing and making out. I fast forwarded towards the end to see how it ended up and the lead character is back at the Glashop and the owner that she was dating is being a jerk to her again. Less than 10 minutes later at the end of the movie he's telling her how much he loves her and the lead character is so happy.

That pretty much sums up the depth of the script of the entire movie and the lack of character development. There are lots of emotionally abusive narcissistic personalities portrayed in this movie, too many to make this movie enjoyable.

Not for real artists
jgood73814 August 2019
I could not watch this seriously. The acting was horrible, it was so obvious and wow this was just bad from an artist's perspective. Drawing in a park with no backboard on an easel means you magically make a subpar pastel drawing appear on watercolor paper. Total crap. I would rather watch my paintings dry.

This movie...is trash.

To quote Kimber Myers of the L.A. Times 'There's no evidence that anyone involved has been a pre-law major, picked up a brush or spoken to someone who has done either.'

I dont know who you people are who keep upvoting this film..but this movie is bad, and you should feel bad for liking it.

Bad script, boring story
ladyidamerethe24 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Boring film, bad script, and soap opera acting. At least from the mother, so bad. That scene in the art gallery and in the car after. I have no words.

Some of the actors would have performed better with a better script, so I feel sorry for them. I guess a job that pays is better than no job.

An inspirational movie
minunimion7 November 2022
I gave a chance to this movie and I appreciated the effort to make a good movie, even if not everything worked.

Making a good movie is not easy at all, you need a lot of stuff and even with a good budget sometimes you can get a good result.

In this case, the budget was quite low, but in the end you can say... OK, it wasn't so bad as I was expecting.

A little bit of over-acting that didn't really ruin the movie, even if in some cases, it was quite annoying.

I can't condemn this movie, maybe it's not worth of 8 stars, but not even the low score it got. People are too rigid and you read some reviews that denote that those who wrote them are a bit disturbed and they should go to someone good to cure them. You read a very strong anger in their words and I can't find any kind of justification about that. Take it easy guys, you're just normal people, nothing special and nobody will call you to start a career as a movie critic.

I hope that the actors and the director would go on working, if they really feel that they want to do this profession, because it depends only on them. This movie has an important teaching, really something many of us often forget... do what your heart says you should do and don't let others kill your dreams. Life is yours.

I wasted money on this!
domlockhart7 April 2020
I heard about this movie from a review in the Waco Tribune Herald, because an actress from the Waco area is in it. I was excited and decided i would give it a go because I'm from the Waco area as well. Just watch the trailer and you will see how bad the acting is going to be. It's worse than the acting in 90s soap operas and that is saying something. My biggest problem, is that this story is about a law student who becomes an "artist". Yet, you could tell that they did not have a lawyer or artist on the set of the film to advise, because everything was very generic and bland.

You can tell some money was put into this film, but I think the problem is the people who funded it, also wanted to let their friends who are not actors......act in it.

This is what happens when people with money who are not artist, pretend to be artist.

A good family movie with a positive message and wonderful cinematography
mmusaphone8 September 2018
For a first feature film made by a young director with a small budget, this movie deserves a shoutout. A good family movie with a positive message and wonderful cinematography that would totally fit in the Lifetime or Hallmark channels.
