Story Which Tells the Importance of Compromise in a Relationship
puranjan1631 July 2016
Praktan is one of the best works the tollywood industry had ever seen. The characters played by each of the actors are notably fabulous and most of them had shown real maturity of acting and made the characters beautifully realistic. The story telling was really very good and the direction also deserves a great round of applause. The movie deals with the ups and downs faced in a relationship and also has a great message for all the budding lovers out there that what sort things must be avoided to build a healthy relationship. Apart from all the drama and romance and good music, this movie has a real treat of funny moments. Therefore I would really urge all the movie lovers out there who still have not watched this movie to check it out. This movie would become a classic a few years down the line.

Want to watch Praktan with Praktan
mushrafi5030 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I like the movie because of its reality and inner meaning.Sometimes you can see your own life in the screen. The word Praktan means previous(one). Here Ujaan and Sudipa were in a bonding. Sudipa chose Ujaan knowing the fact that Ujaan's life was not easy. Sudipa always pushed Ujaan. On the other hand Ujaan belongs to a middle class family. All his hard work was for his family.Ujaan was also passionate. Sudipa reacted to some incident illogically.Sacrificial mentality was much needed. On the other hand Malini was best for Ujaan. Amlini was less demanding. Also Ujaan avoided the mistakes hat was done with Sudipa. Molly pointed directly to the lacking of Sudipa. Ujaan and Sudipa needed change. The scar of their previous relationship have taught both of them wisdom. What I like most is the flow of emotion. Marriage is not a child's play. Camera work is average here. The story and acting achieve the higher rating.

Praktan- A beautiful movie about moving on
tanmayduh25 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I came to know about this movie because of Jalebi, the bollywood remake of Praktan. I became interested in this movie as I got to know its not a movie about romance, but about moving on after the romance ends along with the relationship. Praktan didn't disappoint me at all. It's exactly a movie about moving on, and a beautiful one.

At first, we are introduced to two primary characters, Deep and Molly, and it is very clear that they both are very different from each other. Molly is talkative and cheerful, Deep rather reserved, carrying grudges from the past. As Molly begins chatting about her husband and home, Deep remembers about her experiences with the same man and we get to see the past through her eyes. Maintaining a marriage is not easy, and both Deep and Ujaan made mistakes. As the film progresses, we see how much contrast there is bewteen the past and the present, with Ujaan( Deep's former and Molly's present husband) changing himself for the better after his marriage with Deep ended. We also get to see how much of a positive force Molly is, transforming Deep in a short span of time.

There are other passengers in the train also whose journey the film shows, and each one serves its purpose one way or the other. I suggest you also to watch this movie, and I'm glad that this is the first Bengali one that I saw.

Warning: Spoilers
A great family movie. First of all thank you to the movie director and the whole team for making such a movie. After watching this movie i think everyone will realize the true fact of life that "Life goes on" . All the songs are very touche. The song "Tumi Jake Bhalobaso" just "fatafati". I just love this movie. The city-view of heritage Kolkata and Anupam Roy's song in this movie was excellent. It's true that a guide is more responsible to maintain the cultural and natural heritage of an area. I always want to see this type of movie. Thank you again to the Directors Siboprasad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy. Everyone should watch this movie on theater. really it's just a awesome movie.

Movie's Lesson: Respect, Understanding, trust and compromise are the fundamental of a relationship
mail_bumba19 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Seeing this movie, I could relate with everything. A married life is not easy. Its full of responsibilities and compromises. If both partners have trust and understanding with each other, it can be smooth sailing. This movie depicts this wonderfully. Sudipa (the female protagonist) fails to realize her ex husband's situation. She tries to push him for everything. He tries his best to accommodate her wishes. But, his work does not permit him to do so every time. It needed just a bit of understanding and compromise on Sudipa's part to ease the pressure on her husband and keep it going smoothly. But, she loses patience and a beautiful relationship is broken. She realizes this, but its too late by then. This movie should be an eye opener for many erring couple who don't give a deep thought before breaking a relationship.

Praktan Review – The Former was a formaldehyde !
g_aparna26 July 2016
Praktan Review – The Former was a formaldehyde ! Formaldehyde : a colorless pungent irritating gas CH2O used chiefly as a disinfectant .

The former wife disinfects the husband and makes a better person out of him – she makes him a romantic lovable husband for the 2nd wife. You see experience makes perfect – he goofed up his first marriage so the next time he made it sure to not repeat the same mistakes again…..and go for a divorce yet again! About Former: Sudipa – A girl born and brought up in Mumbai – likes to wear sleeveless and / or revealing outfits that flaunts the assets of a female body. She likes to smoke as well. She is an architect. She meets Ujaan when she came visiting Kolkata and thought of him as her ideal man. Why? Well he was smart, good looking and they shared a similar taste of keeping information of historic buildings.

About Ujaan (the man who later becomes a hubby) Has the office in his own house, middle class family people. Ladies in the family believe in being docile, decent, silent lambs who are at the beck and call of the males of the family. Understand that Ujaan has grown up watching such women who compromise a lot without feeling of having compromised at all! They are home makers and lived as queens at their homes – cooking and looking after children. Never ask the husband about his whereabouts because they understand that the world outside is wicked and he really has to work hard to get food on the table. Thus whenever the husband came home after work, the wife pampers him with warm tea and good food so that he feels that his daily toil is worth all the trouble after all! About Latter Molly or Malini. Educated girl. Worked as Accountant in a small office. Gives up job with arrival of baby. Does not complain and nag about husband not giving time. Understands that he is trying to establish his business so shows patience and stands by him. Simple middle class family girl who fits well in their family. Has no desire to flaunt private parts of the body in public …nor does she like to smoke or drink! praktan-review-aumaparna Conclusion: A girl must always meet the family and especially the mother to see what kind of woman has the boy grown up watching.

A man usually forms a picture of an ideal woman based on the qualities of his mother. The first encounter of a boy with a feminine aspect is his mother and then his sister. Usually they understand that women will be more or less like them and forms a picture of his ideal would-be wife based on the information available to him.

Of course in the course of time he gets to meet other kinds of girls as well and many different aspects of womanhood gets revealed to him as he grows but still the ideal picture is mostly based on women in his household.

So folks, it is rather simple now to understand a man (esp. when you are going to tie the nuptial knot) – meet the women of his famil and see what he expects or will eventually expect of you.

Ujaan was enamoured with Sudipa – her smartness and dress sense – whatever – but eventually he could not tolerate the fact that that she came home late and spent time with her boss. He could not even accept the fact that the boss signs off as 'Love'…though no Boss usually signs as 'Love' – he will give instructions and when the job is done, he appreciates. ….and definitely not send messages to his lady subordinate and sign off as 'love'..unless of course either he lacks etiquettes or is actually trying to become intimate with the female associate.

So girls, meet the mother and the sister (if any) ..this is one of the sure shot ways of knowing what kind of a man your would-be is. Homely mother – strong positive personality…will expect his daughter-in-law to be homely, chaste and loyal….desperate housewife or weak personality mother will allow her daughter in law to have fun..wear sleeveless, smoke, drink, party and even have sex outside wedlock…since probably she herself is like that.

Movie delivers wrong message
limon-6054326 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The movie deivers a wrong message. The movie indicated both of them are responsible for the breakup. But reality is- Ujaan had inferiority complex and he did not give enough time to Sudipa. On the other hand, Sudipa tried enough to maintain the relationship, also given enough time for their conjugal life. At one instance, Sudipa purchased gift for Ujaan, and what we hve seen?!- Ujaan denied the gift for apparently no valid reason. This incident showed inferiority complex on Ujaan's side. He never thought that his wife needed his time. In case of his second wife- she has a very low expectation from life. So, blaming on only Sudipa or both of them would be injustice. Only Ujaan can be blamed for the breakup. The movie shows part of the blame to Sudipa- which is wrong. Acting of the actors were up to the mark- yet the end message of the movie is incorrect.

Excellent movie. Must watch
asif_ishti16 November 2020
A very well made movie. The complexities of relationship between husband-wife was demonstrated in an articulated way. The movie ultimately gave some important messages- patience and compromise (for both husband and wife) are crucial to sustain a marriage. The last scene with the poem was heart touching. I'm giving it a 9 star because the comedy of Anupom Roy was very bad. He should not do acting.

Simple story with thought provoking
asitagarwal25 September 2022
What a lovely representation of daily anecdotes of expectations, mismatch of expectations , love , lack of love , compromises , feelings of ease and unease making you shed tears of realisation.

This movie teaches you to just let go and live the moment .

Rituparna and Prosenjit are totally brilliant .

There is a specially crafted sequence in the movie where passengers play antakshari and produce a cocktail of Hindi and Bengali songs where each one of them , seemingly unknown to the other Drops their prejudices and presumptions to enjoy the moment .

If you have ever fallen in or out of love , you will be able to relate to it .

A 22 min story told in 2 hr 22 min
drsaicat23 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Highly over-rated at present. Let me put it in a nicer way .I love these filmmaker duo and "Icche" is their best movie till date .

This one (Praktan) is a boring Coaching class of "what to do and what not to do in a relationship".

People who are not familiar with Prasenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta,( the star casts of the film ), and the Bengali music band "Bhoomi" , will find this movie even more boring.

Honestly, its a 22 min story told in 2 hr 22 min! That too with the help of Sequences totally UNRELATED TO THE MAIN STORY .

Worst moment(other than the Biswanath-Manali episodes) :(Spoiler ahead) When Rituparna enjoys the 'Kolkata' song and starts remembering her sweet first meet with Prasenjit, her ex-hubby . Now, you must be thinking "What's the problem with that?" The problem is , This comes in the next minute of a phone call which confirms that the lady in her coupe is her Ex-husband's present wife, and she gets visually ANGRY with Prasenjit and his entire family again, after 10 years ! And suddenly she starts cherishing "sweet memories"!- How impractical and absurd!

However,Prasenjit Chatterjee did justice to his character , his acting is very subtle and splendid . And a song, "Tumi jake Bhalobasho" is the other thing that I loved . Iman Chakraborty's version is better .

My rating is 5.5 . The rating of 1 is just to pull down its overrating which is currently at 8.3, (same as of "Pather Panchali" by the Great Trio of Satyajit Ray-Subrata Mitra-Banshi Chandragupta) , which is not justified.

Well made movie to deliver an absolute regressive message
subho-brsc13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's a well made movie. Acting, direction, cinematography, songs - all are pretty good and overall the movie is pretty good. However, the story is very regressive. It promotes the idea that women have to make sacrifices for a relationship to survive. The woman who cared for her own career has been shown as the one responsible for a broken marriage. This is not the message you want to deliver in the 21st century. More worrying factor is that a lot of people liked the movie and the flawed concepts of it. It shows how regressive our society has become.
