Coulda, woulda, shoulda...

I loved the first scene at the couples therapy: great music, good acting, nice song choice, beautifully edited etc. The idea is not new, but the trailer was promising. And then we got a comedy mainly favouring the husband's point of view. Which is disappointing and makes the jokes a bit predictable. The tampon one was utterly forced. I mean a doctor who would not know how to use it? A surgeon who wouldn't know how to read the autocue? Ah, they missed out on so many good jokes! Smutniak was brilliant: the hand gestures, the posture, yet Favino overplayed it a bit too much (oh my, he is handsome as ever though). To me the wife did not come off as a whiny b*tch at the therapy, yet the minute they switched bodies Favino started talking on a high pitched voice and being overly theatrical. I thought he's going to stop after they both calm down and acknowledge the fact of the mind-swap, but no. All in all it was not bad, but that's what we say about the ice cream tubs we bought at supermarket because we were lazy to visit that delicious Italian ice cream parlour four blocks away.

Yes, they can.

Can an Italian comedy be predictable, nonsense and boring as an American one? This is the best example of one achieving all that.

A perfect body swap comedy
ComedyFan20105 October 2020
I absolutely loved this movie. There are many body swap comedies out there but this one was wonderful, better than most that I saw.

The story is really good. It has lots of humor and a lot of great moments. Besides that it also has lots of feelings and made me really want to swap minds with my husband for a few days! It is wonderful to watch how they are starting to understand each other more.

The acting is perfect in my opinion. Both of them showed the behavior and gestures of the opposite gender very believable.

Lively Italian personality swap offering.

Warning: Spoilers
Simone Godano figured the personality swap idea could stand another go round as her first movie MOGLIE E MARITO / WIFE & HUSBAND. I wasn't so sure. To start with macho Pierfrancesco Favino (SUBURRA) and elegant Kasia Smutniak (PERFETTI SCONOSCIUTI / PERFECT STARNGERS) seem unlikely contenders for a gender reverse but that's the thing that drives the film. Inner Favino having to come to terms with kissing outer Favino with three days growth of beard is in the same dodgy area as Hal Roach's vintage TURNAROUND but they embrace the possibilities and the leads enjoying making out is one of the funniest parts of the film.

He's a scientist trying to produce a machine which will transfer memories from one individual to another and she's a sleek wannabe TV personality. Their marriage is on the rocks when his machine swaps them over. There is the now familiar uneasy comedy of her acting butch and him fluttery but they do manage to get laughs of inner Pierfrancisco sitting with legs apart revealing his panties on her TV show and moving into Valerio Aprea's flat while Kasia is outraged that he is putting junk food into her trim body and letting the baby breast feed after she had weaned it.

The piece gains a bit more traction when the pair have to use their old skill sets to sort out the problems they have caused but the ending when both have to articulate what they'll miss if the transfer is reversed is actually quite touching.

Best glossy European production values put the characters into plausible home, laboratory and TV industry settings. Intriguing to consider what the first female director in this cycle does differently.
