- The German doctor Martina is kidnapped by a Sunnite group, back in Iraq. Her confinement becomes an ordeal of her cognitive ability and her loyalty. In the end the meaningfulness of her own existence is questioned.
- Martina works as a doctor in the refugee camps in the Kurdish region in northern Iraq. She is connected to the YPJ-brigades in northern Syria. They ask Martina to take care of a young German internationalist female fighter who has been injured severely in combat with ISIS. In an ambulance Martina crosses the Iraqi-Syrian border. On her way she smuggles a MILAN-system which has been part of the German arms supply for the Iraqi Kurds. The Emir of ISIS gets knowledge of this via the Turkish secret service. The Emir asks his ally Omar to get hold of the weapon. Omar's men seize the ambulance but instead of a MILAN they find a German female doctor, which they take with them. Omar is the military commander of a Sunni tribe which has pledged loyalty to ISIS. Omar wants to change sides again and considers having a German hostage in his hands would let his chances rise. One after another, several players take part in the case of the German doctor: Jamil, the sheikh of Omar's tribe, Abu Sadiq, emir of ISIS in Mosul, Murat, a Turkish intelligence operative and Moses who directs the BND-operations in Northern Iraq. And Martina who has to maintain every acting option.—Happy_Evil_Dude
- German doctor Martina Abramski works in a refugee camp in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq on the border with the territories controlled by the so-called Islamic State. Together with her partner Cemal, who is of Kurdish origin, she regularly travels to the Kurdish regions in Syria to treat wounded female fighters in the YPJ hospital. During one such tour with Cemal and her driver Charo, Martina is kidnapped on the Syrian-Iraqi border. The kidnappers, a radical Sunni group led by Omar, suspect a weapons transport of the German anti-tank guided missile MILAN and abduct the doctor to a secret location. Once information about the hostage-taking leaks out, Martina's captivity turns into a highly explosive conflict in the middle of the Syrian-Northern Iraqi war zone. From then on, various actors get involved, each pursuing their own political interests: the emir of IS in Mosul, the sheikh of Omar's group, as well as the Turkish and also the German intelligence services. During the interrogation of the hostage by "Moses", the head of operations of the BND, the situation becomes more and more opaque, and Martina begins to question her own ability to remember and perceive as a result of the severe psychological stress. Was she really involved in the weapons transport? And who can she trust in the confusing entanglements of intrigue and interest? A gripping political thriller unfolds, in which not only Martina's life is at stake in the end.
